I have a cyst on my back that is inflammed and so it is going to be removed. I didn't ask a lot of questions because it is being done in the doctor's office and is seemingly no big deal. I mentioned it to a friend tonight and she looked at me like I was crazy for going back to work right after. So I will call tomorrow to ask a few more questions but what should I be expecting?

fire what kind of work do you do? I’d think going back to a low intensity job wouldn’t be a big deal if the incision is an inch or less. We do minor procedures under local anesthesia for people frequently and they often go to work afterward.

I can make it so I am mostly sitting that day. I will hold off on FD calls for a few days.

How big is the cyst? Does it need to be drained or will it be punched out?

How big is the cyst? Does it need to be drained or will it be punched out? 2cm by 2 cm on the surface but not sure about depth. It is definitely pushing on the muscle in my shoulder (it is between my shoulder blade and spine) It is hard so they are going to lidocaine, slice in and try to push it all out but might need to dig in there and stitch it. They won't know until they get into it. I changed my appt to next Friday and that way I can either come back to work after or milk it an go home

If its a cyst they will need to get the entire sac out, otherwise it will just fill back up (according to Dr. Pimple Popper)

I had an ~ 3cm cyst punched out with stitches afterwards. I had a cyst/infection drained and pushed out with no stitches. (WHY have I had all these??) I was fine afterwards to go to work for all. You’ll be great.

If its a cyst they will need to get the entire sac out, otherwise it will just fill back up (according to Dr. Pimple Popper) I had this small cyst under the skin on my leg. It grossed me out despite being ~ 1.5 cm wide. Every time I caught while shaving or accidentally touched it, I was like “UGH, get this thing OUT.” The dermatologist was hesitant. “It’s drastic for a small cyst. You sure you want it out? It may just come back even if we punch the whole thing out.” YES, MA’AM. DO IT. Hasn’t come back yet - been three years. Bodies are WEIRD.

You’ll be great. Whatever they use for local anesthesia makes me nauseated, so I will dissent. I could go back to work after a cyst removal, but I generally don’t feel good and want to rest. I think Friday afternoon and just go home is a good idea.

Also this is really gross but if it is infected, it will smell really gross when they open it up.
I’m sorry to have had to say that.

I had a pretty large, deep one on my back. They just did the shot (is that local anesthesia?) and it was out in 15 minutes. Had a few stitches that were annoying but truly it was no big deal to sit or lay on my back.
Afterwards the doctor said how, not soothing, but how accomplished he felt. Ugh, I job I could never do!

If it’s on your back it may hurt to sit back. I would take the next day off work if you can, just in case.

I just had a fairly large one taken out of my neck. The actual procedure was quick and easy. While I felt ok and probably could have gone back to work the next day the doctor encouraged me to stay home a day or two. I found location was the biggest issue - turning my head to drive was challenging. It may be painful to sit for too long if it’s on your back.

I mean, take the day off. You're allowed a little break after that.

And im the sicko who is like record it so we can see it! I love doctor pimple popper! I am hoping my husband can come to record it 🤣 I changed it to Friday. Realized my kid has a track meet that won’t get me home until like 1am the night before so I will get it done Friday morning and come home to nap after.
