I am heading to California at the end of Jan for a quick weekend away. Just Friday to Monday night, Flying into/out of LA and driving out to Palm Springs for a bit.
Looking for recs for restaurants and activities! Hiking, runs/walks, fun or unique sights to see.

There’s a gorgeous two mile one in Palm Springs along some waterfalls. It’s managed by the tribe and has an admission fee but is spectacular: www.tahquitzcanyon.com/canyonThere are some lovely free hikes in Palm Springs too, but if you’re coming in March keep an eye on the weather because it gets hot fast, especially for you cold weather Canadians 😂 My favorite beach that has some hiking or just a shoreline walk is Crystal Cove state park in Orange County. There are moderate trails anywhere from 3-11 miles I think. I also adore Joshua Tree and that’s worth the drive if you have the time. I’ll stop for now. I don’t know where to go out to eat because I’m lame and don’t do that much, but if you want a good seafood market by the beach I can do that 😂

I went in June. Absolutely loved The Garland hotel in N.Hollywood. Griffith observatory was awesome- there are trails from there to the Hollywood sign but we had son so we didn't do them. We did hike a little in Topanga State Park which was nice, ocean views from the top. Neptune's Net famous seafood shack on the ocean cliffs of Malibu was so fucking cool (biker/car enthusiast hang out which is also neat to see) The aerial tram in Palm Springs was awesome and the there are trails at the top (although maybe snow in Jan).

I have so many hiking recs, but do you want easy/moderate/challenging? So Palm Springs is one of the places we're considering going to when we go to the States with the boys in October. (we watched a few YouTube videos about different places in the U.S. and this was one of the places that seemed cool and very different to where we currently live). We also love to hike so I would absolutely love hiking recs. That's something we often miss when we're in the U.S. Easy/moderate/challenging are all good. But I'm guessing we'll only have time for a half day hike or one day max.

We’re in San Diego so spend weekends in Palm Springs pretty frequently. We were just there for new years weekend. We hiked at Indian Canyons/Palm Canyon Trail while we were there this trip. We were with 7 kids and it was very doable with them. There are multiple different hiking options through oasis areas. A neat restaurant we went to last year was The Penney and Parlour. www.palmspringslife.com/the-penney-parlour-on-desert-island/I’m not a huge fan of the aerial team. But I’ve only been at really crowded/touristy times. I’m sure it’s less crowded sometimes.

Lol I was going to make an LA recs thread today! We are going for a week in March! I haven't been there in 15 years so I have no idea what's cool anymore.

In Palm Springs, I'd eat at Las Casuelas Terraza - it's classic, old school California Mexican (authentic to mid century California, not to Mexico).

We are currently sitting at -47C (I think that’s basically the same in F, it doesn’t matter after a certain point) with the windchill so I literally cannot wait for this trip in 2 weeks!
Any other must-see or -do activities for a quick weekend? Places to avoid?
It looks like the weather will be in the 60Fs which sounds pretty amazing right about now. Maybe not shorts weather but close.

A weekend trip is quick but it sounds like you got some good reqs. I’m in OC and would second Crystal Cove and Laguna if you make your way down. They are my favorite areas. We often go low tide at crystal cove and then hit Bear Flag Fish Co nearby. The kids love their fish.

Does anyone have K Town recs? My oldest's Korean teacher mentioned a couple of restaurants but he wants an embarassment of riches from which to choose.

I actually like the tram but only really in the summer to get some relief from the heat at top. I think the view is super cool and I love how the whole environment changes at the top. It’s too cold to do it now though.

It’s too cold to do it now though. Is it open in the winter? I feel like our definitions of cold might be variable. Sounds pretty though!

It gets crowded fast in the spring and they close the parking area when it gets full, often by like 10-11am.

I second the recommendation for a hike in Tahiquitz canyon.
Right outside of Palm Springs proper is the palm desert Marriott where Jessie Spano’s dad got married on Saved by the Bell. They have fun little boats to ride around the property and some places to eat/nice bar in the lobby.

Two good places to have a nicer dinner in OC: The Ranch in Anaheim Five Crowns in Corona Del Mar
Good seafood-casual: Crab Cooker-Newport Beach Taco Surf (fish tacos/Mexican)-seal beach

Bumping this to ask for recs for clothing/outfits for this weekend. The weather looks nice , like 80F/26C during the day, 50F/14C at night. Is this shorts and sundresses weather, or more like jeans or sweater dresses?
I’m only bringing a carry on, so can’t/don’t want to pack things I won’t use. I might be overthinking this. Please help lol
