Sending the bat signal to richard, I have jury duty tomorrow and am bringing my Emma Thompson’s S+S screen play to read, as one does.

Closing on a weekday would make more sense than the weekend. Saturday is usually the only day of the week I can make it to the library. My closest branch closes pretty early on weekday and isn't open on Sunday. There has to be a more public friendly way to reduce their hours.

Weekends are when we go and the kids love it. So many children will be impacted.

All the libraries in our system are closed on Sundays, which is always the day we want to go. Our local one is open until 9pm Monday-Thursday and 5pm Friday-Saturday. But they a 10 minute walk from the middle/high school, so I'm guessing they want it to be a place for kids to go after school (which I understand). I just wish they had the staff/funds to be open everyday.

Our Mayoral race is having a runoff today, I expected the turnout to be low with it being a holiday week and raining.
One candidate is backed by Assholes for Casseroles, so there could be a lot at stake here. They have already infiltrated our State Superintendent.

Given what’s happening with the board of trustees, it’s just a hot mess express.

That's when they need to be opened the most! Some kids don't have computers, or internet. You can't do research for reports/projects at a bookstore. This is just a sad day.

Like my local NYPL stayed open till 8pm on Wednesdays, and didn't open till 2pm. That way it was still open 6 hours, but when the most people could use it. Later opens 2-3 days of the work week could reduce the cost.

It's so hard from a staffing point of view. Because we all have families too, that we want to be able to run errands with, do evening activities, etc.
My library is open late 3 days a week (but closed in the mornings) and closed early 3 days a week (open mornings). We aren't open on Sunday at all. Someone is always pissed about us being closed some mornings, closed some evenings, etc.
We're starting self service hours. People can sign up for an access card and will basically be able to let themselves into the locked building, have access to collections, computers, printing, etc, but no staff help. Hours for that are 6am-11pm.

I thought the State's AG was looking into them but I haven't found anything about it since Foghorn Leghorn 🐓decided not to.

For being a really small town we have a great library. They offer free events after school for kids and on Saturdays. I think they do a good mix of night and early weekdays too. I would be upset if they got their funding cut.

That is so sad about libraries. The main branch in our county is a massive amazing building. Two stories, etc. It is open from 9-9 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday; 9-5 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 1-5 on Sunday. We don't utilize that one as much because it is farther away. The smaller branch of the library that is super local to us, has pretty similar hours, but it is closed on Sundays.

Hours for that are 6am-11pm. Our libraries were never open Sundays but about a year ago started self-service hours from 9-9 every day in the bigger branches and it's been great. You can access everything but can't check out anything that would normally be behind the desk (just some new video games) but everything else can be accessed and checked out and I think it's been a really reasonable compromise so that patrons have more access but librarians don't have to work crazy hours.
