Wait what? A member of the House Freedom Caucus is calling MTG on her ish? I am legitimately surprised.

I wonder what he is planning to do next, since he is not "retiring from the fight". I'm guessing giving money to causes we don't like, but also trying to claw the GQP back from where it is now. He has been quiet lately, but he in the past he has been vocal about not liking the direction the party has gone and he was pissed all to hell with members of his own party about the insurrection at the Capitol. ETA: Or I could have kept reading.

And he actually sees it makes sense, unlike so many others. I do think a key difference is that he’s relatively lower in position of power. He’s a pretty standard issue senator. (I mean we care about him more because he can maybe, maybe swing) I still think the others should retire but I see why Mittens is a bit different. About the only real power he had was to make it so MVP didn't have to cast a tie breaking vote. But he's still leaving the party in a timely-ish manner. (Only timely-ish because dude is 76.)

Ugh just 16 days after the shooting on UNC's campus, a man came into the student union today waving a gun (a former boyfriend of a worker in a bagel shop located inside the union). Thankfully no shots were fired, but of course they locked everyone down. I cannot imagine the trauma for those kids and their families 💔.
A group of students from UNC also protested at our state legislature for tighter gun control laws. Of course on mostly deaf ears 🤬.

Every day, I feel blessed to have gone to school when I did. May have had to hand write 20 pg papers and play on hot metal playground equipment, but at least I didn’t have to worry about dying in my classroom

The current LDS church president is almost 95. Wouldn’t that be something if Mitt joined the 12 apostles in his later years?

I have faith that they'll help vote out some of the scum who puts their own pockets over children.

She’ll miss voting in our primary by 1 week but she’s pretty excited to vote in the Nov. election. She has a QR code on her water bottle that takes people to the voter registration site for our state. She also reads the morning announcements at her school, including the names of the kids having birthdays. When a senior has a birthday, she tracks them down and “makes” them register to vote with her QR code. She’s researching how she can turn this into an actual school organization so that it will continue after she graduates. She wants to get kids politically involved, registered and educated on issues. Does anyone Know of a “Rock the Vote” type organization that might give guidance on how to organize a high school chapter? Attachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

4speedy, League of Women Voters has a ton of GOTV resources and they are non-partisan. (Partisan groups aren't allowed in our local schools to register) Your daughter is awesome! My 17 yo will miss the cutoff for our primaries too, but she is PUMPED to vote for President next year. I really do have hope that these kids will make a difference.

My University is in the local news because a student was just held hostage over the weekend by her boyfriend (in her dorm room), sexually assaulted, waterboarded, choked, etc. She escaped and got help from campus security on Sunday, after he'd been there since Thursday night.

In HS we had to take a class you and the law as seniors. On the first day of class they had you fill out the voter registration forms and held on to them until your birthday and then had them processed for you. Of course my political affiliation has completely changed but it was still such a great way to keep kids involved I thought.

Surprisingly, my Catholic high school had the guidance counselor find you on your 18th birthday and help fill out the voter registration and then send it in for us. I filled it out in the cafeteria with the counselor while I ate lunch.
They were probably hoping I would vote against abortion. No such luck for them.

I was a pretty fresh 18 when DS1 was born and the social worker that came to help with all the paperwork (birth certificate, ssn, etc) registered me to vote. I took gov/econ as a senior in HS, each one semester, but I don't remember them talking about registering.
I've been trying to figure out if someone will organize something locally at the HS, but I don't think it can be me since I'm running for school board. Unfortunately I don't know anyone with a senior.

Wsu student workers considering strike. Think They've already given up on much of pay increase demands. Based on things administration have already said they arent valued much only considered bottlewashers.
They are thinking of other ways school can "pay" them more like discount on parking and university fees added for all students with tuition. Also big mad that they got univ to offer varying insurance plans to choose from for these grad students some with dependents that couldnt buy into coverage before. but then univ opened up sign up for benefits of insurance and 401k for 1 day and didn't send student workers the info to access the portal to sign up. So they want that fixed.
Who knows if they'll get anywhere but most of the professors polled agree with students demands. It is however pretty hush discussions so far.

4speedy your daughter is fucking cool and amazing and I adore her. My PIG (politics in government) class in HS was a senior year requirement and we all registered to vote during it. It was a fantastic class, I remember the teacher was so cool. All of your additional anecdotes and comments are making me really hopeful for the upcoming young voters. Hopefully it won't take them too many elections to make some change.
