We just got an ask from our principal to help support 4 new international teachers to our school (one of which is DD1’s new PM teacher). They are in temporary housing and are asking for donations of sliver ware, linens, cleaning supplies etc like these teachers are refugees or something. They have a month to go still til their first paycheck. Just like, fuck man. How is this education these days? Can’t we do better? Why are these new teachers being put in this position?
That's horrible. When I got my first teaching job, I didn't realize until my orientation two days before school started, that I wouldn't get my first paycheck till Sept 25 even though the first day of school was like Aug 15. We were only paid once a month then. Thankfully, I was living with my parents that year or idk how I would've done it.
When I worked for our local district there was a babas policy that you didn’t get paid until after the second FULL two week pay period. So since school always started a day or two after Labor Day it wouldn’t be a full two week pay period… so then you’d have to wait until that pay period ended plus the next two “full” ones before you got paid for that pay period in early September… so basically 5-6 weeks and then if you weren’t salaried you’d be getting a small check since you didn’t work Labor Day and whatever
Anyway it was annoying. I think now you still have to wait but not quite as long,..
