We're expecting the nasty weather from the Midwest by this afternoon. There's quiet talk of tornados from meteorologists. That's not something we typically encounter up here. Straight line winds, yes. Tornados, very rarely. I think we had one last year and it didn't even crack F1. Beyond that I can't really remember any that actually touched down around us. We're supposed to get off and on storms all week in our neck of the woods. But thankfully we're out of line of anything too severe. Our area still hasn't fully recovered fromt he derecho that hit us at the end of June. Of course, my town had a water main burst yesterday so we're on a boil order. We've been having hellacious storms all afternoon. There was one where I seriously considered taking DS to the basement, the wind was the scary. We're under a tornado warning for the next three hours still too. Stay safe DVM ladies ❤️ I feel bad because poor DD1 is at her first ever week of overnight camp and the weather is damn miserable.

This is a good bill. Unhoused people are ending up in burn units because the outdoor surfaces they sleep on are hot enough to cause second degree burns. And the covid-era report on HVAC subsystems around the country showed that an unconscionable number of k-12 schools don't have adequate cooling and ventilation. Something has to be done, because these problems are not going awayml. My kids have been going to the same school I attended. We never had AC in school growing up. WE actually got out for high heat days back then. Now, all the classrooms have window units, but the halls are still not air conditioned. I can't even imagine how much money it would take to renovate the building to put in AC. The middle school and high school have both been replaced since I was a kid, so they do have a central AC. I never had AC in any schools growing up. And the building I'm in now is the first building I've ever taught in with air conditioned classrooms. It was built in 2003, which is basically still brand new for a school building and they made sure to put in full building central air and geothermal heating. I used to keep a thermometer in my classroom when I taught in Syracuse City and my room regularly cracked 90s and cracked 100 a few times. Just absolute fucking misery.

I was at the gym (in an old factory in the basement) when all of the alerts went off for a tornado. I kept us there a bit until everything settled and I can tell about where it was based on our drive home (which I’m glad we stayed out). cnf I know north of us got slammed with flash flooding. I hope your family is safe from it.

I hope your family is safe from it. At 11pm last, according to the local news news, we had already gotten 7 inches of rain where my parents live. Their sump pump shit out and their basement flooded around midnight. Thankfully they have an alarm on it. They're lucky, other people on their street had water up to their doors and windows. A neighbor posted a video of their street entirely flooded. And at midnight it was still torrential downpours, so I have no clue exactly how much they ended up getting. Downtown Syracuse at 11pm had only 1 inch of rain, so. Our summer camp is another only 10 minutes north from my parents. Poor DD1 is probably soaked. I may need to buy and dropped off a couple of extra outfits for her. I sent extras, but I doubt it'll be enough now.

I walked my parent's property with my dad a bit ago. They have a small creek behind their house that is completely overflowed up into their yard and struggling to drain. The guy kiddie corner from them doesn't have a sump pump, he didn't put one in when he built his house because the builder wanted to charge him extra. We saw him in his driveway and walked over. He has a walkout finished basement and his patio behind his doors had four inches of water on it. And he said it had gone down a few inches already. He has no flood or water damage insurance, so he's pretty fucked. They have an AMAZING finished basement. They won the lottery about ten years ago, millions of dollars winning, and dumped it into their house. I'm sure they can afford it, but it doesn't make it any easier to swallow. Some of the videos and pictures people from the neighborhood are posting are just crazy. So much water.

cnf wow! Sucks for the neighbor but how much could it have been for a damn sump pump? We didn’t have any big issues. Lots of Rain and heavy wind. My parent’s neighborhood has some trees down. Our neighbor was getting a new roof put on. I was preparing dinner and watching the sky get real dark and praying that they would be off the roof soon.

cnf wow! Sucks for the neighbor but how much could it have been for a damn sump pump? right? I feel for people who may struggle to afford something like that but you invest tons of money in your home and don't do the obvious thing to protect your investment? Weird flex.

cnf wow! Sucks for the neighbor but how much could it have been for a damn sump pump? No clue. The builder he worked with is a complete dick. They're in a bring your own builder neighborhood and everyone who used him has horror stories. I'm sure it's less than the tens of thousands of dollars he'll be pouring into ripping out his basement though.

I am against the death penalty. But. I understand the feeling. There are some acts that are just plain evil.

My oldest voted for the first time today. No on issue 1 in Ohio's special election. I've already chugged my wine, but the early numbers are promising! I was on the phone with a friend at 7:23 who realized her H (who just got home from work) hadn't voted yet and she screamed GOTTA GO and texted me 5 min later she broke a few traffic laws but got him there in time 🤣

I am stressed about these results. I just saw NO is already being declared the winner via the Columbus Dispatch 🎉🎉🎉

This references the Alabama boat fight/brawl (the folding chair to the head). But it's true. I will be absolutely floored if that murderer of that child is black. Stop protecting white men (people)!
