Tbh I don't know how to react to this. I don't know much about YT philanthropists and if this guy wants to give away money, idc. The people getting treatments + cash are happy. But it feels ableist too? Not all people who are blind can or even want to be "cured."

You mean like videos of people who like ask for bus money and then someone gives it to them so then they give them like $100 or some shit like that? Or the ones where they film themselves giving money or food or whatever to the unhoused? Or they ask for help to buy baby formula and then pay for that shoppers entire order at the check out?
99% of them are trash IMO and exploitative. The exploitation of others to make money infuriates me. And some people feel like it’s a feel good moment, or hey?m, they got a free grocery order or meal or extra cash, but if we’re talking about people in actual need, a one time “nice thing” isn’t going to help or improve their life and using their lives to get likes on a video is poor taste.
I did not click on the video you posted about blind people, though. Idk anything about that. Can’t listen to it right now with a trying to fall asleep cranky sickly baby.
If the videos I’m referring to are not what you’re talking about, ignore me 🙃

Ah. If they don’t show the faces I think I’m okay with it. Like it’s just straight up donations? Not the “tests” and then donations. I am fine with that.
My kid talks about Mr beast all the time but admittedly I have never paid attention to his videos so idk. He does keep telling us that Mr beast is the richest guy in the world. Which. Lol. No child.

DC makes this claim too 😂 My understanding is he is one of the OG YouTubers so he got in early and was popular enough to make a lot of money (I think originally he just played games?). And now he uses that money to do good things for people. And yeah he films it, and it gets him more views on his channel. But idk, there’s so many other terrible things people use wealth for, and this seems to have developed organically. Presumably the people being filmed gave their consent to be recorded. I’m not particularly bothered by him. I haven’t seen those other types of videos. I think informed consent is key.

Mr Beast is popular in my house too. Honestly I think it’s pretty dumb but I needed a break from the baseball card bros so whatever. The only thing I don’t love about it is the consumerism of it all. But that’s not a Mr Beast problem, that’s a culture problem.

I find most of the mr beast videos pretty annoying but it seems like he’s trying to do good in a meaningful way. www.beastphilanthropy.org/about/I don’t really know about any other YouTube philanthropists. He’s pretty interesting. I remember seeing n interview with him somewhere (could I Be more vague lol) about how he got started and all that.

Eh. It's not weird at all. SO MANY brands have people who champion the brand for no money but just because it makes them feel good. Mr Beast didn't "unlock" anything. This is so normal. I don't think that it's shady either. The people who do this are likely enjoying themselves and feel like they are a part of a community. And it literally costs them nothing. And beyond brands that do this as part of their business plan, he has even said that he going to soon be actually paying people to do this work (which is also a normal and established job in the world). So yeah, I am entirely unbothered by this.
