IDK how old your kid is, but our doctor advised us to get them to lay down with closed eyes, put the drops in, and when they open their eyes the drops go in. Still may require some holding down, but might be easier to manage? I also have made H do it for me because I'm a big baby about eyedrops. Yeah, this is what we are doing. She's quite dramatic 😂 She's 6 and tiny (37 pounds) but very feisty I feel this. For me, who personally very much struggles with anything close to my eyes, if I lay back and ever so slightly to the needed side. Then put the drops into the corner of the eye and have help to open my eye, that is the only way I can do them. It isn’t the drops themselves for me once they are in, it is anything close to my eye and the light. I can’t explain it, but I have a pretty bad light sensitivity issue and they water so bad.

I have to do it in the corner of my eye, too. My body physically will not let me just drop something into my eye. I can’t even put contacts in.

She also has really bad light sensitivity so I'm sure that doesn't help. I have her lay down in my bed with just the hallway light on so it's as dark as I can make it but still see what I'm doing. She's also really sensitive to the drops too though.

Well her fever is back so I'll be keeping her home tomorrow too. I've never had a kiddo still have a fever after 24 hours of antibiotics for strep. So now of course I'm freaking out that maybe she has that more invasive strain that kids are dying from. Thanks anxiety. I am really struggling to get her to take her meds. I feel like I know all the tips but please give me any you have. It's the bubblegum flavored amoxicillin. I've tried juice, chocolate syrup, squirting in the side of her mouth. I ordered chocolate ice cream and pudding to try for tonight. I'm mad at myself for not just asking for the shot. I gave her the choice since she's usually better about meds than her sister. Mom fail. I’ve had success before mixing it with danimals smoothies for my kids.

nelzie my only bit of advice(?) for the liquid is that none of mine would take it easily, so we started trying tablet/pill form. This happened when on started daily allergy meds and he wasn’t excited about it. The pedi offered a pill for us to crush, plus it was less expensive. So we did that. Then he started taking it without being crushed & topped with applesauce. All of mine are now on daily meds (5-10, but for at least 2 years) and opt for pill form, which I’m always amazed they can do. I was 14/15 before I could swallow a whole pill. Hopefully she gets feeling better soon and the shot helps. Yeah I should probably start them both trying to swallow pills. I couldn't do it until I was an adult and I definitely don't want that for them. My 9 year old learned last summer by practicing with tic tacs.

I need to get dd1 to start with pills too. The bottle of children’s Motrin has 24 chewables and she is supposed to take 3. Definitely not going to last very long.

Aww, Maine CDC director Dr. Shah is leaving us to become the new deputy director at the US CDC. He's been amazing and I hope he is able to make a meaningful impact on the national scale.

I hope it’s ok to crash the thread and vent for a minute. My partner’s mom just got done with a bone marrow transplant and has no immune system. So she has to take more precautions than the average person, and we also take precautions so he and his kids can still see her (masked and distanced). This past week we went to a restaurant and wore masks to order (we try to eat outside when possible, thank you South TX weather!). The guys in line behind us started laughing at us and calling us sheep and making “bahhh” noises. We get comments all the time. WHY DO PEOPLE CARE SO MUCH ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE TAKING PRECAUTIONS?? Like, masks are not contagious, douchebags. Covid, the flu, etc, is and can actually kill people. It pisses me off so much. I never say anything to anyone about their lack of precautions because I do not give half a shit what others do, and at this point, I don’t blame anyone for their choices. Why is it such a flex for them to be assholes though?

I don't see why the fuck they even care.

I'll never forget when a male customer walked by me bahh-ing and I was so confused and then I got it. At the time employees were required to mask so what the fuck are you expecting asshole? So I get it. I hope your SO's mom stays healthy.

I haven't been out of the house much the last six weeks but I'm definitely going to continue to mask as I have been and that includes work when I go back. I'm one of the people who just likes wearing one. I don't wear one into restaurants anymore but that's also maybe a once a week occurrence and usually at a place with barely any people. This new variant seems to give no fucks. So I'm sure it's coming for us by way of daycare or getting it from my parents.

We all still wear our masks at my workplace (retail). I had a customer ask me if the employees were required to wear them and I said no, we all choose to. He gave me a look like he didn’t believe me and left. But like, masks help us avoid so many illnesses! And there are so many of us who have been out even after wearing masks, I’d hate to see what it would be like if we didn’t wear masks. We’d probably have to close the store for a while because we’d all be sick!

Dr. Cox I'm really sorry people are such jerks. It's infuriating I'll probably never forget how early in the pandemic an older man coughed AT me in the grocery store when I walked by with my mask on. It's just bullshit

The guy that DH sits next to at work in the one day a week he has to go in had a positive test this morning. H was chatting with him without wearing a mask all day on Wednesday. So now we wait.
Of course, we have a WDW trip scheduled for 1/22. The kids are going to be so bummed if COVID messes up another vacation.

There has been a lot of info on twitter recently about increased risk of strep throat in the 6-8 months following a covid infection in kids. It seems like EVERYONE has had strep lately.

Alka seltzer plus cold medicine back to advertising Feel sick? Take our medicine and go out in the world again. Guess that's the reality. I have to assume at any time there's positive people all around me not wearing masks and taking cold meds so they can keep on chugging

I have a lot of feelings on the going out sick argument. I mean DS2 has a cold right now that’s going through school and I’ve sent him. He’s had no fever and tested negative on a rapid. There are very little protections to jobs/school attendance with relation to sickness at this point. Until we fix that problem we(not specific to here but in general) are judging people who may have no choice in the matter but to be at work/school.

Knock on wood, but so far DS's strep has remained contained to him. I'm going to do all the happy dances in a few more days if the rest of us remain strep free. It's going around like wild fire right now. That makes it a few months shy of that window since our big covid surge this fall, but still interesting to consider.

Yep, gotta love that a pandemic didn’t change that I still don’t have sick time. Weeeeeeeeee H and I were just talking about this the other day. My district is still giving five paid days if you test positive for covid, more with a doctor's note, that does not come from our normal sick time. I think we're basically the only place around that I know of still doing that. That was an amendment to our contract though, which has since expired. Our district and union are at a negotiating stalemate and waiting for the state mediator to step in next month, so I suspect if we ever get a new contract that will be definitely be pulled. The only perk to working without a contract I guess. Makes up for not getting a raise this year considering the inflation. Except I haven't needed to use that since it first got added back in 2020, so I don't. I have big feelings. Both over the lack of changes to working conditions and my current situation. But seriously, we learned nothing. Businesses still only care about bottom lines. If this wasn't a lesson in humanity, I don't know what will be.

So far, no COVID for H, 5 days after exposure. Fx it stays that way!
Several classrooms at the kids’ ES currently have official outbreaks, so it’s really most likely that they will bring it home over the next week before our vacation. I wish I could put them both in bubbles until we leave. I could really use some FL sunshine.
