My aging dog basically woke Monday with no rear leg function. We are trying what we can, but at 120 lbs, it’s falling mostly on DH to help carry/lift/hold our dog. In my heart I know the next decision is bear. Dh isn’t there yet. Its been an emotional and hard week to say the least. Holiday stuff has taken a seat.

I am so sorry ldubhawksfan. We went through something similar with our doggo a few years ago, and it's so hard for everyone. Sending all of you love. <3

DS was still coughing this morning, but he hasn't had a fever or nausea the whole time, so we sent him to school with double masks. We'll see if I get a phone call to pick him up, but with a negative flu and covid test, and no symptoms but the cough, I couldn't justify another day off.
And I have to see if I can switch shifts with a coworker next week because on Thursday it's supposed to get down to -7 and I imagine they will cancel school and I'd have to take ANOTHER day off. And right before Christmas. Can't imagine my retail job would be happy about that.

The last few weekends have been really busy with DD2's birthday, and party, and December goings ons... but we are mostly on track for Christmas. Most of my stress currently stems from flying cross country to AZ next week- my parents were so delayed last time they flew- FX for smooth travels. I tried to have a lot of things shipped directly to my parents so we wouldn't have to fly out with it, but we are still going to bring a lot and I'm worried something will get lost. And not looking forward to traveling with my boot. Also worried about illness. FX FX FX everyone stays healthy.
An extra level of complication is that my grandparents in MI aren't doing so hot- my grandmother has pneumonia (it was dicey there for a bit, but she is stable for now) and my grandpa bronchitis. My older sister has been with them almost two weeks and she is supposed to go home to AZ this weekend, but now that is up in the air and my mother is fretting that she isn't there and is stress shopping and she keeps emailing me more things she found for the girls and I'm like please stop!! And if we have to end up canceling the trip (which would be really tough for us, but mean my grandparents really aren't doing well which would not be good), most of the presents are in AZ, eek! So I'll breathe deeper after the 25th.

Add me to the "hanging in there" crowd. Both my girls are really missing their AZ life and my mom (who is still there). Things don't fit the same way as in our AZ house, and I think we're just at the point that the changes from our move aren't novel or new. They are both so sad right now. I'm trying my damnedest to make this a merry time. But oof, humbug indeed. Aww, moving is so hard. I think I’m still recovering (we moved in Sept). Can you maybe plan a special FaceTime session with your mom? I hope your new place starts to feel more like home soon. Moving is so hard, isn't it? We have regular chats with her, but the girls have a tough time interacting with her on FT. We keep trying though. Fingers crossed she moves here in the spring. 🤞

Good luck with the flight byjove. Getting through the airport in a boot does kind of suck. I flew cross country in a boot with one crutch when A was a baby and I still regret not asking for mobility assistance from the airport. They can help if you are finding it is painful or overly exhausting (or have a tight connection). And I hope your grandparents’ health improves. ❤️

I asked DH if I was being a weenie for considering a wheelchair there, and he said yes lol. But maybe we can hitch a ride on one of those taxis? Were you able to fit in a regular seat? We have aisles on the correct side for me to stretch my leg, so not sure if a middle seat with more leg room would be better than that. That's all that's left.

Flying is stressful enough on your body and mind without added pain and hassle from an injury.

I told the doctor I was flying and she didn't say anything, so maybe I'm being extra.

I was okay in a regular seat. A was a baby, so we had him in a bucket car seat and I used the extra room underneath to stretch out my leg. It all sucked, but I think I was just so relieved to be sitting down with our gear stowed that I didn’t care about much.
My foot was super swollen by the end of the trip, between all of the walking and flying. I spent the first day at my parents’ house just elevating and icing it.

I think compression socks are always mildly helpful when flying, so I wouldn’t think twice about wearing them. They’ll probably be helpful for recovery from the sprain even after you get out of the boot.

Trying hard to come to grips with how to do my first christmas with a cane- when you can't walk or stand all that long. Sent off to dmv for my handicap placard and dr checked the permanent box. Have already given up on making Christmas Tamales this year. Not sure what other baking cooking will get shelved which are my favorite parts. At least after pandemic shop online for pickup has become easier to actually do my shopping. We have 1 thing for everybody so that's good. Out of ideas for my 22 yr old son who is flying in. Hes had a lonely year. We do so much for his brother i wanna do more more more for him. so trying to think small transportable but bigger impact ideas. And not really got anything.

ponyhairs, I'm here for all the easy ideas. She was SO EXCITED this morning. Like, her voice got so tiny and was like, I got an elf? OH MY GOD. Then she whispered thank you to Santa and spent the rest of the time before going to my parents talking to her elf and telling me all about it. My daughter has a favorite youtube channel, and on the channel this kids elf makes traps and does all sorts of things so this morning she was like, my elf is going to do what Adley's elf does. So I said, well, all elf's are different and do different things, so don't be surprised or sad if your elf doesn't make traps. I am going to have the elf give her a piece of chocolate like Adley's elf does, so she will have something in common.

My parents sent N an elf this year - H and I had never intended to do it but here we are lol. The last 3 nights I've forgotten to move him but remembered as N was dressing for the day. Thankfully he still thinks it's funny wherever Jolly Roger ends up, even if I have the least effort behind it.
(Yes, that's his name. N wanted me to name him so I started listing off silly names. I get to Jolly and the first name that popped into my head was Roger and N was like "THAT IS THE PERFECT NAME" So that's why he's named after a pirate flag.)

Is this where I confess that my mom liked our elf so much that she bought my older sister one (she lives with them) and moves it daily for her? LOL Their elf is named Chew Too. She has more clothes and accessories for it than we do.

I went all out last year because it was probably going to be our last year, but before that H and I just moved it to different places each night, no shenanigans. It was still fun for DC.

Juniper named our elf Snowy after the elf in her youtube channel. She really loves that stupid channel.
Also, instead of saying Snow or Snowy or Snowman she drops the S. So she says Noes, Noesman, Noesy. It's adorable. She has almost no other issues with saying S words, so it is really funny.

If he’s a grad student, what about gift certificates to his local Target/Walmart/drugstore? Or a gas gift card? I remember getting money to cover toiletries and groceries for Christmas freed me up to spend a bit of my hard-earned money having fun with friends. Also, what about some nice quality shoes or a nice, warm weatherproof jacket? That’s the sort of stuff I remember not having the money to cover myself and really cherishing from my parents at the time. If he’s feeling lonely, another nice gesture might be a plane ticket to visit you over spring break or maybe plan to visit him yourself.

He shops amazon and safeways. the walmart sucks, no target close by. He so rarely drives I don't think he has enough mile on his car this whole year to change the oil lol He's hard. I can do cold hard cash or gift cards but you know it's nice to open something? I have a couple of smaller things but nothing wow. ya know? but keep talking, cause you know something will go in my brain AHA! my brain = mush

For my nieces and nephew (teens and preteen) I’m just sending them cash in a nice card. It’s not very imaginative but I think they’ll be stoked to buy something for themselves.

My 4 year old has been begging for a stupid elf all season so I caved and bought one today. I'm going to have it show up over night. I'm at working now printing out the intro letter and adoption papers. I hate myself right now. I’ve been doing Elf stuff for 5 years and have lots of really easy ideas if you’d like some. Our tree is still naked and last night Clancy put up 2 ornaments and then got stuck in the ornament box. The kid loved it. The other day she was reading The Gift of the Magi to a collection of stuffies. It’s as simple or complex as you want it to be. I love doing it because my daughter gets so excited to see what she’s up to each morning. We also break all of the elf rules and she doesn’t report behavior and my daughter can touch her and sleeps with her most nights. This reminds me of something cute my H does, on Christmas Eve the last thing he does before ge goes to bed is gather up any dolls, plushies, and action figures in the room and arranges them in some sort of Tableau. Last year Harry Styles was reading everyone a story.
