So, DD got the first 2 Pfizer shots under 5, and then her last shot as a 5 year old. It says, "updated Pfizer booster 5-11". So did she kind of get the booster when she wasn't supposed to? Did we skip something she was supposed to get?
It's all so confusing, but I wanted to get her first shots ASAP and not wait for her birthday.

sewf , did she get the updated 5-11 bivalent booster? If so, she is all set. Straddling age brackets is a bit of a unique case. The new protocol is going to be exactly what she had.

It doesn't say bivalent on the form, but I think so. It was just a few weeks ago, and DS, who is 9, got his booster (so his fourth shot... I think...) at the same time, and his prescription says the same thing. so yay for being ahead of the curve!

Oh interesting. So no mix & matching? My 1YO who got Moderna has to get the Moderna booster and my 5YO who got the 2-shot Pfizer can't get the Moderna booster?

Well, it's a good thing DD is covered with her covid and flu shots, because I just got an email saying masks are optional now for everyone at her school. It's a special needs preschool, so students weren't required to mask, but teachers and staff and parents were. But not anymore!
Not like we're in cold/flu/RSV/covid hell right now or anything!

What terrible timing for that decision. 😔

Grandson and his mom are sick with she thinks flu. Damnit Grandson is negative for covid and he is feeling better. His mom is positive for covid and feels like crud. My son is negative and has to work. She's trying to mask and Disinfect around her and watch the 2 yr old instead of him coming here and possibly exposing us more. Dh and I are negative as of now. Idk what the current variant incubation period is.

Well our pta meeting for tonight is postponed because all of the officers are sick (except me who has a sick kid so it’s probably a matter of time 😭). This is insanity.

We have a meeting tonight too, and should be fun and about holiday traditions. I'm wearing my mask and it's staying on tight.

Not a lot of options for cough medicine for that age group. I would opt for running away but at least wear a mask. Hard to say with symptoms whether he has it or not even with the negative test. I hope everyone feels better soon and the rest of you are spared.

I feel like the back and forth from the CDC is so damn confusing around kids in schools. Everything I read said "wear the mask you'll keep on the most" and for our kids that's cloth. Only a handful of other kids in the entire school have masks, and most here are antivax to boot. But then the "cloth doesn't protect against omicron" thing I've seen touted as a reason to not mask at all if you're not going to wear a fitted N95. Is it still worth it to wear cloth masks if they'll keep those on for what little protection they do provide? To protect against or to prevent spread of the other respiratory crud going around? I just can't believe we're at this point, years later, still.

I was pleasantly surprised that our new orthodontist required everyone to mask. Our old one did too but the attitude up here is much more relaxed overall. That was nice.

I just can't believe we're at this point, years later, still. I think a cloth mask is better than nothing. I've been wearing just a basic cloth mask this whole time. I used kn95s for a month or so in January of this year when omicron was at it's worst but other than that just a cloth. Not a fancy cloth one either.

It was my understanding that the single ply cotton or jersey masks were really more for show than anything, but I am not a doctor. I don’t even play one on TV. they stop the large particles and lower the amount of virus that could possibly be circulating. similar to the paper masks the dr wears does. depends on the weave of the fabric completely. most of even the cheapest masks were more than one ply.

My understanding is cloth is better than nothing since it will at least stop some of the viral load. A cloth mask with a filter insert would be even better. When I was wearing cloth masks (because I couldn't find KN95s anywhere), I would buy the kind with a filter pocket and make sure it had a filter in it.
ETA: I would buy the filters at Target and then later, Amazon.

Went ahead and just grabbed a few types of KF94s to practice wearing over break. I feel like the first few weeks back in January are going to be a mess after all the holiday travel with the triple threat of all the viruses going around right now.

I'm sorry you have to worry about it. I hope they're both 100 percent soon and everyone else stays Covid-free.

Have to decide if we are going ahead with getting the next booster in next few days or postpone it a bit more. Not sure about that

Yes, they do offer some amount of protection, but not to the same level as an N95. Cloth were still effective in reducing the number of colds (and asthma) and flu the last couple of winters.

CNN headline Hospitals in the US are the fullest they've been in the pandemic. Mostly respiratory besides covid. But gosh
