I hope it's okay that I start the thread.
My employer has officially dropped the policy that covid doesn't count as an unexcused absence. So how many people now will come to work sick or just not test so they can say it's "just allergies"? I'll get fired at 6 absences in a year so I'm worried.
On the plus side though, 3 years into this we are finally going to be allowed to use our N95s once and throw them away like they were intended instead of wearing the same one all shift when you have a covid patient.
Apparently starting tomorrow the urgent care in our area is switching to appointments only, no walk-ins. They were already having 4+ hour waits so I imagine those appointments will be almost as hard to get as Taylor Swift tickets.
I don't know how long our healthcare system is going to survive like this.

athn64 No they don't want us to come in if we have covid but it's going to count against our attendance now. Though I assume since its consecutive days it will count as just one absence. Adding to the fact that they stopped testing every patient on admit and got rid of mandatory masks we are likely being exposed a lot more too. The majority of my coworkers have had it multiple times. I feel like this is going to be very bad.

A very interesting thing happened at physical therapy last week. Virtually everyone was wearing masks. The office had stopped masking when the CDC said it was no longer required for health care facilities. The Dr of PT that's in charge of the office was out sick for 2 weeks. He had come back with a mask on, before that he was mostly masked but not all the time. I asked him what was up, he said that he couldn't mandate masks because the medical group they are with wouldn't allow it. Until the last couple weeks when everyone was out sick, many with covid. That and the hospital is full of covid, flu and rsv plus people with nasty nasty colds the group decided they should all wear masks again. He was very very pleased with this development. He was also very very pleased and complemented me that I always wear a mask. That I'm doing the right thing.

I can't imagine working in healthcare especially where sick people come in regularly and not wanting to mask. I guess I'm just one of those people who really took to it and likes wearing it.

I work in retail, too, and I will be masking forever. Even if it's not covid, listening to people cough through the winter is enough to make me cling to my kn95s.

piratecat, I think things are beginning to move. This was released this morning. Except, if your under 5 kid did all 3 pfizer shots, they aren't going to be eligible for the new booster.

elle, byjove, thank you. Glad to see there's finally some movement. But that really stinks about kids that got the 3-dose Pfizer. What the heck? I'm glad I insisted on tracking down Moderna but we had to drive an hour to get it since Pfizer was much more readily available in our area.

I am also confused by this - luckily N has his five-year (!) wellness visit just after Christmas, so I'll ask the pedi.

I'm thanking my lucky stars we made sure M got Moderna. Granted with the move we didn't want to deal with a 3 shot series and finding somewhere here to get that 3rd dose. I feel terrible for those who got Pfizer, it absolutely does not make sense at all.

Why would under 5s who got Pfizer not be eligible for a booster?

Why would under 5s who got Pfizer not be eligible for a booster? Because it's being authorized as an updated "third shot" and not technically a booster. Suspicious pfizer deleted the tweet. Hopefully they will come to their senses and make it available for those that followed the rules and got all 3.

I'm not too worried about my <5 since he's just past 60 days from his 3rd, but still frustrating since we did the right thing!

Of course we should, but is anyone still listening to the CDC? Or Walensky? I feel like they’ve lost all credibility.

The message from the CDC has been if you’re in the green, you don’t need a mask! I agree, maybe not much has changed on paper, but it’s a big about face in their day to day media messaging.
