WTF. Texas is sending DNA kits to parents of school children in case their kids are the victims of a school shooting. WTFFFFFFMFAF This is what I got today from our district. It is allegedly to help find missing kids. It is not going back to the school. Still weird, but not quite as nefarious this is what we got too. And I remember them being sent home before so it’s not new. At least not everywhere.

I don't understand why O'Dea was drinking a Michelob anyway. I think a Coors or a local microbrew would be the obvious choice if one is pandering to beer drinkers.

And I remember them being sent home before so it’s not new. At least not everywhere. I remember back in the late 80s / early 90s that we were given cards at school to put a fingerprint on and, if I remember correctly, even prick our finger and smear a bit of blood on so they could use it to "find us if we went missing." Although I now of course realize it was for if we went missing and they needed to identify our bodies... Not that I think this is something everyone should be doing, but the concept has been around for a while.

Super 🙄. DS1 has already had a run in with kids using the term gay as slang/slurs so not educating them in school will just make that worse 😡 DD is dealing with a boy in her class (5th grade) who is using it at a slur and she tried saying something to him, which made him make fun of her. She said something to her teacher and the teacher didn't have much to say. They both got fussed at for talking Oh mine got into a pushing match with the kid after like the 3rd time of it happening so he got himself suspended for it (we had a huge talk on standing up for what’s right but that he can’t put his hands on someone else over it).

This is certainly.....a choice (It's a reference to this Drinking an iced beer right after adding it doesn’t negate that the beer will be watered down as it melts. Obligatory fuck Jo.ni while we are at it.

The GQP doesn't even care that these bigoted policies are going to alienate a ton of youth and lead to more violence and suicide. It's ridiculous that this has become the current dog whistle for them since they got Roe overturned.

All signed up to text bank! I'm so ready for midterms to be over. The stress of it all is.... a lot. I'm trying not to pay attention to the polls and all the crap the GOP is spewing. Don't move to Virginia. Every autumn is this stressful.

I didn't link the DNA kits to school shootings, the Houston Chronicle did. Apparently this directive was put in place as a precaution after Uvalde "in case a child goes missing or of energency." Of course the schools aren't going to admit they might not be able to keep kids safe.

Waukesha parade suspect is arguing that all jurors should be Covid tested because one juror has tested positive and another has symptoms. All the jurors have indicated that they are comfortable continuing but he's causing an issue.

I know that bill won't get signed, even if it were to pass the House and Senate, as long as Joe is POTUS, so that's at least something for the next couple of years, but I also know these bigots don't give up, so I really need everyone to take elections seriously from now on, no matter how "small" the office is. ***I know everyone here knows/feels this. I'm just venting here because I hate everything right now. Except in states like mine it WILL get signed.......sigh

There were a couple 4/5th graders at DD's school telling kids if they were gay they would go to hell. Of course it was all brushed off. Some of it was targeted at DD's BFF's big sister (who is LGBTQ+) and her friends. Just appalling.

Pre-EndofDays/Covid, they used to have a 'child safety fair' or something at the mall and you could take your kid and get a fingerprint/photo/emergency contacts card for your kids.
My daycare used to send those kits home too without the blood thing.
The super interesting question I saw on Twitter regarding these kits is who chose the company that is distributing and who is profiting off it.

I have never in all my life heard of fingerprinting or taking blood/dna samples from schoolchildren.

(Also: can you send me the info on text banking? I don't have time to phone bank, but I could do that)

The kit we got has saliva as the dna portion now. I don’t recall if that’s new this year or if it’s been like that a while. I usually throw them away pretty quickly, but it just came home yesterday, so I hadn’t gotten around to it yet.

Not that everyone will be able to move to them, but there are at least states where there will be protections. It all sucks.

Our county PD is usually at all the touch-a-truck and county fair type things making photo and fingerprint cards but I've never been asked for DNA (and I would nope out so fast).

Especially that last part. Knowing that our local WS group profited heavily from c19 testing. That same one that is now btw working to open locations all across the country.

The ones I've gotten just have a photo and a digital image of their fingerprints

'Former President Donald Trump signed legal documents describing evidence of election fraud that he knew were false, a federal judge indicated on Wednesday. U.S. District Court Judge David Carter wrote in an 18-page opinion that emails from attorney John Eastman...needed to be turned over to the Jan. 6 select committee. Don't ever let them complain about the Mueller probe being a waste of taxpayer dollars, that was actually net positive for the Treasury. This Durham circus was purely political theater. Igor Danchenko, an analyst who provided much of the research for a notorious dossier of unproven assertions and rumors about former President Donald J. Trump and Russia, was acquitted on Tuesday on four counts of lying to the F.B.I. about one of his sources. The verdict was a final blow to the politically charged criminal investigation by John H. Durham, the special counsel appointed by Attorney General William P. Barr three years ago to scour the F.B.I.’s inquiry into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia for any wrongdoing.
