I hated Deep Impact because I lived in Virginia beach and seeing the signs for the "Virginia beaches 6 miles". 1. Nobody refers to the beaches in the city of VA Beach as Virginia beaches 2. 6 miles from the beach you are still in Virginia beach 3. There are absolutely no fucking hills 6 miles from the coast in Virginia As a teen i was offended by hollywoods indifference to facts re: the nations 42nd largest city! and here I thought I knew you.... 🤣

You all learned something about me this week: disaster movies are my jam. The dumber the better. But if two like ones come out at the same time, I need slightly more realism. But only slightly. Sorry about your lack of hills, blurnette989. me, too. I was just telling SIL that I have all or nothing when it comes to entertainment. I'm disaster/apocalypse or smut reality. No room for rom/com, comedy or fluff for me.

Armageddon and pre-Phoenix tattoo Ben had teenager leahcar's loyalty. My middle DD had a long obsession with disaster movies and appreciated Deep Impact much more. She said she felt safer with Morgan Freeman as president. LOL did you do the volcano movies too then? Volcano and Dante's Peak? 🤣 I think I remember Volcano being superior between those. I loved Dante's Peak. Pierce Brosnan.

Twister, Armageddon, and Dante's Peak. Younger Enchanted was enthralled with those three.

Dante's Peak had actual footage of St Helens blowing and Pierce Brosnan as a USGS Geologist with a penchant for superhero strength and driving skills. Dang origami. Disagree again on this VERY important topic. LOL Volcano is her favorite volcano movie. Tommy Lee Jones had superior disaster fighting abilities. (RIP Anne Heche) Pompeii is also one of her favorites.

And I'll still gladly watch Twister anytime.
Disaster movies are the only thing DD2 willingly watches with me. It's a guaranteed way to get teenager time for a few hours.

Have you ever watched the Robin Williams movie Patch Adams? It's supposed to take place in RVA, at MCV where he went to medical school. Yet the movie looks like some secluded, idealic forest setting. Lol MCV is... not that. I'm still thinking about this and laughing. My brother was hospitalized there in 2010, and I'd never done any kind of city driving before we spent a couple days going back and forth. But I learned quickly. I guess it was a good primer for moving to northern VA later that year. But yeah. It's in the city. Movie people smh

Me, too. Armageddon as well, honestly. I should see if I can find Dante's Peak anywhere and see if I still love that one.

Sorry about your lack of hills, blurnette989. Omg, me too. The trope-ier the better 😆 Scientist who no one believes except one politician of the opposite sex, scientist turns out to be right, disaster happens, scientist + politician must rescue politicians' family members who stayed thisclose to the disaster area, day is saved, scientist + politician get together, doubting politicians are either killed in disaster or properly shamed. 👍

Things in Russia seem to be coming to a boiling point. This needs to happen ASAP or it's going to be too late. The sham referenda are underway.

Anyone in the path of Hurricane Ian?
I love Twister and want to spend my day watching storm updates instead of work.

It feels pretty slimy that Denver Riggelman is out there profiting off of the J6 investigation while it is still active. I don't like it.

Students across VA are walking out of school today in protest of our asshole governor's transphobic directive to the state Department of Ed. My district is basically ignoring the directive and the district next door is telling him to pound sand.

I watched Contagion in the Spring of 2020. Do not recommend. Maybe save the virus disaster movies for a later time period.

Disaster movies are not my thing but I do like a light political/corporate thriller (Pelican Brief; Patriot Games; Enemy of the State; Bridge of Spies; State of Play; Ides of March, etc.)
ETA: I almost forgot AIRFORCE ONE!

Twister, Armageddon, and Dante's Peak. Younger Enchanted was enthralled with those three. Those three are great, but I’m partial to The Core and Deep Blue Sea. Give me all the ridiculous disaster movies!

And basically all of the Jack Ryan movies with Harrison Ford. And I'll expand that to include a light political romance, like the American President.

Our claim to fame was living not far from the house they used at the end of the Twister movie. We thought that was so cool 😂
