I hope it's mild notblanche! I tested the 4yo last night because he was up multiple times with a lot if congestion/drainage. He was big mad and also negative. We haven't been anywhere in a week so I guess maybe it's just allergies. He was playing outside in the freshly cut grass yesterday evening.

thank you mrsweasley, and i'm glad your DS was negative. mild so far! he has his typical allergy/ asthma flare symptoms, so i wouldn't have thought much of it if not for a fever. and he's in good spirits.

Kids are still testing negative on rapids and their PCR was negative yesterday. I'm relieved but so anxious about keeping this going. We're only two weeks away from our first ever vacation ever and I'm worried it wont' happen.

Has anyone heard of or had the experience of a delayed positive or not at all? A family member had Covid about a month ago, most likely BA.5 given their region. Her child tested positive and she had symptoms, but took 7 days to get a positive rapid, including a negative PCR on day 5. Mh went to a large outdoor event last Sunday and wore a mask in crowded areas, but it was 100 degrees and he ended up moving to a less crowded area and taking the mask off. He came home and slept in the guest room, masked in the house and ate outdoors. Negative rapids and felt fine, unmasked at day 6 and started to feel symptoms that night. It’s day 8 since exposure and still negative rapids. He had a PCR today we are waiting on results of, but now my 6 year old has a fever, headache, and stomachache. We’re all boosted (the 6yo just barely) and we all had Covid at the beginning of may. I’ll be really bummed to be on round 2, but I know he took a risk. It feels so weird to be chasing a positive like this.

flora we had positive Covid people in our house and it took me a week after they tested positive to test positive on a rapid at home (I tested daily). I had mild symptoms start before then (sore throat etc). I likewise had two negative PCRs before then too. FX for you guys!

Honestly I gave up testing H and I after day 6. We had the exact symptoms as the boys who tested positive. We just went with we know they are positive and have symptoms that match ours so we are positive too (although Hs work refused Covid pay because he never turned a test).

These days it feels like by this time next year we’ll just have a generic ongoing pandemic thread 😫

flora my SFIL took 6 days to turn a rapid from his last interaction with us. And I think it depends a lot on viral load to turn a test nowadays. It all sucks. Sorry. notblanche hope it stays mild for your LO. piratecat hope the boys stay negative.

So, not a dr at all, but I was listening to In The Bubble podcast a while back and Andy Slavitt had an expert on who mentioned almost in passing that getting Covid, having symptoms, and still not turning a test days later is actually a good sign for the immune system. It shows your system was primed for the virus, is fighting it, and is handling it. The rapid tests don’t tell us if we have Covid, they tell us if we’re contagious (plus or minus about a day on either end of that period). So being symptomatic but not being able to turn a rapid probably means you’re sick but your immune system is keeping your viral load low enough it’s not hitting the level to turn the test, the vaccines and any prior infections are working.
Whoever that expert was seemed to think this was a good thing.
Again, not a dr.

I’ve also read a couple times articles about vaccinated, symptomatic people not turning tests because the symptoms are the result of the immune system kicking into gear, and fighting off the infection. It makes sense and I would bet mh isn’t super contagious- our 6 yo is always as close to her dad as she can be so I am not surprised she would catch it first. She was patient zero with Covid in may and he was the next to test positive. His PCR came back negative so. I don’t know. It wouldn’t change our behavior but it would be nice to know. My other daughter has a birthday party on Sunday she will be really sad to miss. His symptoms are weird but in line with some stuff I’ve seen about BA.5, he’s only got a cough and muscle soreness. His neck is stiff and sore and his major complaint. My poor daughter is the sickest I’ve ever seen her, stomachache that comes and goes but a bad headache and fever I’m treating often that doesn’t drop below 100. I guess our next step will probably be a PCR for her.

He's been exposed I-can't-remember-how-many-times at daycare and now three times at home and has had symptoms some of those times but has never turned a test. He spends his days with 10 unmasked and gross toddlers and sucks his finger and I have no idea how he hasn't gotten COVID.

DD is sick with a cough and congestion. She didn’t turn a COVID test this morning, but her symptoms only started in the MOTN, so it might be too early.

It's not as awesome if the only way you get paid to stay home if you have COVID is if you can present proof of a positive test 🙃

It's not a situation I've personally had (yet), but I've thought about it.

Thanks everyone! He slept in today and his fever has broken but I can tell he's uncomfortable. I'm going to re-test the rest of us after dinner today but we don't have any symptoms.

We dodged a bullet last night. We were going to the baseball game with our friends and about an hour before our friend took a test because he had a scratchy throat and felt run down - faint positive. So we would have been in the car and then at the game for 3+ hours with him and his early covid. We went to the game without them and I wore my mask as much as possible.
