dizzycooks - that's tough. I'd probably take a wait and see approach while watching the dog and girls like a hawk. Hopefully it was just a fluke and everyone does okay together. Who is watching the dog and kids while you and your H are gone? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anyone doing any shopping during the Nordstrom anniversary sale? The dds and I went this morning and they each got some new shoes. I may buy a bra later, but nothing too crazy for myself. I already have a big order from Everlane on its way...
While I was at Nordstrom earlier, I happened to try on some Olukai flip flops. SOOOOO comfortable! I'm seriously considering getting some even though it feels pretty over the top to spend $60+ on flip flops. And they aren't on sale, so there's no motivation there either. We have lots of stone tiles in our house and my feet have been killing me in my Havaianas. I think I need them. 😬

dizzycooks, I agree with the others. And I've been there. After our elkhound died we just had my dog, a chow mix, who was about 10-11 at the time and DS was 2. He loved the dogs and in her own way Blanca loved him, mostly because he was my kid. She tolerated absolutely zero children outside of him. One day we were all sitting on the floor and DS kept grabbing at her face. I pulled him away twice and told him No! As I went to pick him up to separate them he did it again and she nipped him in the face. It got his eye brow. We had an urgent care visit and thankfully no stitches were needed. But man I was in knots not knowing what to do. Blanca was very upset at what she did but still I couldn't trust her and it wasn't her fault. Basically from then on we had to keep an even better eye on the two of them and never let DS play near her even if one of us was close. H and I agonized as we didn't want to regret our decision because DS's life and safety obviously came first and we would have put her down if we felt that was our only option. Our decision worked for us at the time. I had to put Blanca down when I was newly pregnant with DD as she was just so old and things went really downhill with her body. But I'm grateful for the extra couple of years I had with her. Also, we got a puppy several months after that, just for DS. That's the dog we have now and they have grown up together. We felt the puppy would put DS's focus on her and the pressure off of Blanca. It worked. Hugs. It's hard! I remember the vacillating on the right decision.

silverspoon I am so sorry for your loss. We had to put one of our dogs down with DD1 was 9 months old and about dog when DD2 was 10 months. They were both somewhat sudden but not exactly. Both had cancer. I've had dogs all my life and it's such a hard decision and it tears us up. I always call them my fur children. nellieoleson I really thought that I would go to being a one dog house because it's so hard at time with kids and dogs but, this is the longest I've gone, but we only made it 9 months and we have a puppy. I just can't go without dogs and I feel that they need play mates dizzycooks. I'm with everyone else. Just watch them. My old man disliked DD1 from the day she came home. Would nip at her direction but never close enough to get her. I always kept a very close eye when they were in the same room. My parents did look at it like that they thought he was being protective but he wasn't. I don't think it was unprovoked but he may not be able to take their energy. Maybe he just needs some extra alone time. I honestly don't know that I could ever put a dog down because of kids. I know even if they were mean. I just have too big of a heart for dogs But I have family that would always take them for me so I could still see them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

dizzycooks, that is a tough one. I agree that if it is totally unprecedented behavior for her, watch (extremely closely ) and see. Maybe keep them separated if you can as much as possible. Does she kennel? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

She's 6.5. I just realized tonight that she thinks we aren't going to follow through on any tough consequences. She said as much. She kept slamming it and kicking/hitting it and we just had enough. Part of me thinks she needs help controlling her anger, but at other times she is able to switch it on and off completely at will (if someone she knows is watching or if I video her--which I sometimes do so we can talk about it later. I feel like it is a manipulation tool she uses, so we are sticking to our guns. The nice things is the K will be in school tomorrow, so I won't have to worry about keeping her OUT. Until later...

copperboom - I have threatened to do that a few times! I haven't actually followed through yet, but I will put a towel over the top part of her door so she can't slam it or close it completely. There have been a lot of close calls with dd2 running after dd1 and almost getting slammed in the door, so I have a zero tolerance door slamming policy. Plus, it's just rude and annoying! I had my door taken off as a kid. My dad also made me open and close it quietly 100 times in a row. He was big on "creative" consequences. I also got banned from sitting on the furniture because I jumped/flopped on it too many times.

My brother lost his door growing up. Our most "creative" consequence so far was when dd1 was slamming the dishes as she set the table. She broke one and ended up eating off paper for a week. She hasn't forgot and neither has her sister. I like creative consequences. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Http://notjustnovels.wordpress.com

One more afternoon to take the craziness around here before I'm off. I made a list to help focus myself and it's daunting. I know it won't all get done, but I'm trying. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Http://notjustnovels.wordpress.com

Hi lovelies! My weekly check in has turned into a monthly check in About the dog: i would try to rehome. I probably have a different perspective though bc I see so many kids come to the OR to get fixed up by plastic surgeons. I would also work on some education with the kids. Everyone has their breaking point, dogs included. Was there any punishment for the dog? Nordstrom sale: I got one shipment yesterday (Vince camuto boots, Paige jeans, Zella leggings, Barefoot dreams cardigan, few tops). Second shipment of Christmas gifts (pretty candles, soft blankets, shoes for DD and DS) should arrive within the next few days! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Busy day here today... took the girls on a Target run this morning and then took them for a hike at the Audubon society this afternoon. It's about 90 here today, but the hike was in old growth forest along a creek, so it was cool and super fun. Dd2 only tried to run off a cliff twice, and went boneless and cried when it was time to go, but other than that did great. I'm very proud of myself since it's the first hiking type activity I've done with them on my own since dd2 was running around on her own. It was a complete success and I'm excited to do it again!
In other news, after going 5 years without a social media account, I have started instagramming again. I forgot what a time/mind suck those things can be, but whatever. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm *poof* if anyone wants to follow.

Anyone have experience wth this? It's a freaking 4 day vacation, 2 days traveling. I do not have time for this. Unless perhaps I get vouchers that pay for my family to go to a really nice vacation next year. And free drinks while I wait bc I'm going to an AI ... kittenmittens, which boots did you get? I've been eyeing these: shop.nordstrom.com/s/vince-camuto-prasata-bootie-women/4615298. I already have booties that I don't wear enough, though, so I don't think I can justify it. I did order a couple of bras and panties. nellieoleson, your hike sounds so nice. Did both your girls walk or did you carry them? Also your instagram is so pretty! Fyi, I think your full name is on your account, if you care. I get a little scared of the interwebs.

kittenmittens 😂 I love your priorities. I had several items in my cart (never shopped there before), but they ran out before I could check out. I'm calling it saved money, but I kind of need some booties now. I don't have any. How do you wear them? Haven't called the airline, we will figure it out in the morning. So annoying though. dizzycooks, so those with high status will get upgraded clearing seats for the rest of you. It should be just fine! It is a little unusual they haven't cleared them yet though. It usually happens 24 hours out.

tinydancer - they both walked. We didn't go too far, did a lot of meandering, and spent most of the time splashing in the creek. And yes, my name is on there. I'm not worried about it. I want to eventually use it as a tie in with a personal business, so I want it to be identified as belonging to me. I know what you mean about being sketched out by the internet, though. I certainly don't want people I know IRL to find me on here. They don't need to know my unvarnished opinions on marathon sex. #makeitquick 😜 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
