My SIL, friend, and I are looking at a triathlon event at the end of April. It’s a 1.5 kayak, 11 mile bike, 5k. I’ve never done more than a 5k timed, but I’m very interested. I know I could handle each event separately, but running after biking may prove difficult. Going to train a bit and then decide. It’s also right up the street from my house, so if I can get the course layout I can practice.

I know I could handle each event separately, but running after biking may prove difficult. Going to train a bit and then decide. It’s also right up the street from my house, so if I can get the course layout I can practice. Definitely practice the bike to run brick. Get off, change shoes and just go. The less time in between obviously the faster your overall time, but also that will give you an idea of how your legs respond. It's called a brick because that's what your legs will feel like for the first few minutes. The major muscles that dominant for running and cycling are different and that quick switch of muscle activation is difficult and real. But the more you practice the easier your legs will transition over. It's also the rpm from riding versus leg turn over when running that is different and you're legs will be spinning a million miles around when you first hit the ground. Go slower than you think you should because it's hard not to shoot out of the gate with your legs already spinning. I love triathlons! I've done a ton of them and once upon a time I was a certified USAT coach, but I let that lapse a couple of years ago. So feel free to hit me up for anything. Moosemom over the motivation thread is a beast triathlete too. We'll happily talk you into it, lol

cnf thanks so much! I did research some training stuff and said to MH “I bet they’re called bricks because that’s what your legs feel like” lol It’s going to be hard to train on cold days like today but I’m going to try!

Hi, can I play?
I’m attempting to stick with my weight loss/general health journey. I lost about 30-35 pounds in the last year and a half and struggled from Nov.-Dec., so I’m looking to get back on track.
My goals are: Finish 75 “soft”—more realistic than 75 hard. Basically, stick to my WOE and only drink socially, do something movement related every day (right now it’s a walk with my dog). I added in there that I need to read at least ten pages each day and do one other thing that is good for me or my mental health. Sometimes it’s as simple as making my bed 🤷♀️ Im on day 11 and it’s going well so far.
My other big goal is to get a physical and complete blood work. I have a pretty serious aversion to doctors so this is a pretty big goal for me. Luckily I have found a doctor that makes me feel somewhat comfortable so I think it’s a step in the right direction.

Finding a PCP is a goal of mine. We moved 2.5 years ago and I haven't bothered to find one yet. I definitely require a check up.

cnf how is your daughter’s hand doing these days? Good! We're down to once a year visits with her burn specialist unless she starts having major retractions. No OT until she eventually has a scar revision. She uses it normally and really is mostly unphased by it. She does get upset that the scars are permanent. She occasionally will ask me when the boo boo fingers will look like the other ones again and gets sad when I tell her that they'll look better, but never the same. She's had some very minor retractions, but I'm thinking I'm the only one who notices because I still think about it a lot and look and her fingers regularly.
