So does anyone else's kid have issues with sounds? C wasn't like this at all. Aside from the typical loud bang which would scare anyone, H will cry over most semi-loud noises, high pitch noises, the vacuum/blender/pump (like to blow up an air mattress) even if he is in a different room so it's definitfely not the volume, and the weirdest one - the sound of aluminum foil ripping/folding/crinkling. Yes, C is weird about sounds. Vacuum made him cry the other day but he was fine with it before that. He cries at the happy birthday song and saying cheeeeeese. And on the sound machine, the "lullaby" settings makes him cry then he stops when we change it. Some of it is loudness but not always.

DS1 was really sensitive to some sounds. He really hated the blender and food processor. He would start hysterically crying if those went off. I even tried using the blender while he was napping upstairs in his room once and he woke up crying. He also didn't like the lawn mower for a long time, the vacuum he was iffy on, too. He's better about it now, but some noises still freak him out.

I tried to take him into the other room but it wasn't enough. Aww! It's so sad when thing that are supposed to be happy and fun make them cry. I don't think we'll sing happy birthday to DS1 anymore, at least not until he outgrows his hatred for that song (if he ever does). So far DS2 hasn't been phased by that song, or really any of the other noises that bothered DS1.

The only noise that bothers D is the blender. At least, it did when she was a newborn. I haven't tried it around her recently. She also used to hate the sound of the running bathwater but doesn't mind it anymore, so maybe the blender would be okay now too. cookswithwine, poor O, I hope he feels better soon! tgrimes GL at the ENT appointment--keep us posted!

Poor O cookswithwine, I hope he feels better soon. I'm sitting here pumping and another girl just came in the room to pump. The room is divided by half walls so you can only hear the other person and not see them, but she's playing music, loud enough that I can hear it, and singing. I mean teto, but I kinda want the peace and quiet when I'm in here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is it a sensory thing and if so is it a big deal? I'm guessing not a big deal at this point?

I'm guessing not a big deal at this point? generally speaking, if their aren't other signs of sensory sensitivity by now, then it's not a big deal. Some kids are sensory seekers, some avoiders, but it doesn't impact their daily functioning. In that case, it's ok. It's when it impacts their day to day activities that it should be further evaluated and/or addressed.

I get irrationally annoyed anyway with people who hum or whistle in stores when I'm shopping, and this seems similar.

At the ENT. She thinks it might be exposed bone or a piece of metal. They put Afrin in his nose and will come back in a few minutes.
Fuck.

If anything gets removed or swabbed ask that it be sent for a 1) culture and sensitivity 2) pathology Most doctors do this with everything anyway, but some don't. I can elaborate later if you want, but right now I don't think you need my long winded, half nonsensical answers. I'm thinking thoughts of strength for you right now. ETA tag tgrimes
