duskymonkey what the heck happened???? Guys I haven’t left the house except to walk around, in 2 weeks. We order groceries every couple of days. Oh, once I went to the drug store to get a refill but used the drive through. How long will this shit last? Friday is our nanny’s last day then a family friend is watching our kids at her house. I’m so worried about being away from them all day but I know they are laying low too. I mean, we have to do something or we can’t work so I guess that’s the deal. Hold me.

We haven't left the house either. DH is the tribute who does grocery store pickup runs and goes shopping for things we couldn't get from the pickup (which this week is bread, eggs, chicken, toilet paper (we haven't been hording and actually need some). Monday DH realized he forgot to bring home his external hard drive so we drove over to his school (about 25 minutes) to get it and let the boys run around his classroom for a bit. It was good/weird to get out of the house. Yesterday the weather finally cooperated and we got to play outside after DS2 nap. It was much needed.
I set up a folding table downstairs looking out over our deck and onto the pond behind our house. It is a great view, but I've been using a folding chair to sit on and my back is really paying for it. I may need to buy a desk chair since as of right now we've been told to work from home through the end of April.

CoachTsWife If you are going to be WFM until the end of April, I definitely think investing in a desk chair is the way to go. We have one from IKEA that H uses and really likes. I find that a good work chair makes a huge difference in how my body feels, but the really great ones are so freaking expensive —> I’m looking at you, Aeron chair by Hermann Miller. Full lockdown is coming for our city soon. That means no leaving our apartment, except to get food, go to the pharmacy, or the hospital. They might even not let our kids play outside on our compound in the green spaces - requiring everyone to physically be in our apartments for weeks. I really hope it doesn’t get to that - we have a balcony with a water table, but my kids love running around outside. Sigh.

Taitai a good chair will for sure make a huge difference. I need to order one, I cannot use this folding chair for another month. We just don't have a need otherwise and have a fairly small house so we don't have an office space (I'm using a big folding table for my temp workspace). Although I do wonder if our WFH policy will be a little more lenient after all of this. I work in healthcare IT so we are having to continue to do our jobs (and more in some cases) to make sure our systems are running perfectly for the hospitals we support. And I'd guess 98% of our workforce worldwide is working from home. But yeah, I need to go browse online for a decent chair.

She finally canceled swim lessons!
H’s aunt lives next door to us and is still having friends over. And we have an entire local business shut down because an employee tested positive and all coworkers are now quarantined. It’s a food establishment so people who had contact the past 2 weeks are freaking out.
DS1’s teacher wants to start zoom meetings next week. Sounds like hell.

Taitai all the thoughts and prayers as your cooped inside an apartment. I have never fully appreciated our two acres until now curmudgeon I haven’t done Zoom or Google Hangout with my students yet because I don’t want to pressure their families to be “on and ready” at a certain time. I’ve heard kids love seeing their teachers/classmates online though so hopefully your DS1 enjoys. CoachTsWife get a good chair! It’s going to be a long month of April to WFH and that’s assuming we all start to go back to “normal” by the end of April.... and I’m not so sure we will or are that soon.

My parenting style has gotten a lot more permissive... and it’s only been 2 weeks 😬
The girls stayed in pajamas for the day. It rained all morning and the girls mostly played barbies. By afternoon it stopped and we went for a walk in rain boots and pajamas.... which then devolved into mud play after the walk and... 🤷♀️
They were a mess. It was a lot to clean up. But for 1hr+ I didn’t have to entertain or parent or whatever so.... I guess I’ll allow it🤷♀️

We use Flipgrid to send videos back and forth, but I guess he’ll be excited to see everyone live. I’m hoping I can show him how to do it so I don’t have to be around. Lol I am not presentable by any means.

DS2 sleeps pushed up against a corner of the crib with his legs under him. He starts out normal with a pillow and blanket. 🤷🏻♀️
I’m finally finishing painting the built ins I started a year ago. The last part is not nearly as difficult or time consuming as I thought. I should have done this a long time ago.

curmudgeon DS1 has a google hangout with his teacher 3 times a week for like 5-10 minutes per visit. He loves it, and sometimes one or two other kids from his class are in on the video chat too. It’s definitely manageable. He also gets a morning meeting from his teacher each day, where she explains the activities he will be doing for the day and provides a bit of a lesson (like digraphs or silent “e”s and what have you). The morning meeting is pre-recorded though. Not interactive. I think they’re actually doing a good job of limiting screen time, while also trying to keep some connection between the kids, classmates, and teacher. Glad swimming lessons are cancelled finally!! She’d better give you makeups once things normalize again. CoachTsWife I’ve been wondering if this situation will make a lot of companies realize that slowing WFH actually isn’t that bad and doesn’t hurt productivity/performance/bottom line issues. I hope you find a chair that works, and maybe the company will be more flexible with WFH in the future, so you can get use out of it! danvers Fortunately they are still letting our kids play outside on the compound. It would be soooo hard if we couldn’t leave our apartment. Many other families in this city are not so lucky though, as their high rises have no green space. So they really are trapped inside with their little ones, since children under 5 are not supposed to leave their homes (neither are people over 70). I hope nobody in our building becomes an official case though....because in that situation, I could see them make us all stay in our units for 14 days, which would suuuuuuck so much.

My DCP finally got her test results back, 10 days after the test. The result was negative but the nurse strongly cautioned her that it was likely a false negative due to the length of time it took. IDK if they thought the sample had been compromised or what, but the nurse told her to treat it as though she was positive. We hadn't heard from her since last Monday and were starting to get annoyed because she'd previously said we'd be paying 50% tuition once she was cleared and opened up her daycare. I just wanted to know when we needed to start paying. She finally reached out yesterday and she's closed for the next month or so and we don't have to pay any tuition. There's at least one family where both parents were still working and they need daycare and I feel bad for them.

Taitai yes! That’s almost the exact same format we are doing. He gets a prerecorded message every morning and he has to send one back every evening showing a certain thing he worked on that day. And she is trying the video chats 3x/week. I hooked him up this morning and let him do it alone and he really enjoyed seeing his classmates. It’s not as bad as I anticipated.

Today is H’s 40th birthday. I’m sad for him we can’t go out like planned, but I did order a cake. DS1 made him a card and I have a couple of unwrapped gifts (because no alone time to wrap!). I tried to order decorations on amazon a few weeks ago but with delayed delivery times it just wasn’t happening.

curmudgeon Happy birthday to your H! Sorry you aren’t able to celebrate as you had planned, but I’m sure he understands. And I bet he’ll love the presents - even without the wrapping paper. CoachTsWife I just figured something like this would happen with your DCP. I wonder if she thinks taking that cruise was worth it, now with all of the inconvenience and hardship she’s caused for many families, and the loss of income. Ugh. People. At least she is playing it safe and not trying to open back up.

It’s almost the end of March over here, and I’m like GOOD RIDDANCE! This month has felt like a decade, I swear. Like, December 2019 feels like a lifetime away. I hope things improve in April for all of us, but who knows. The one thing I do know is that I’m happy to have my O17 friends to complain, vent, and commiserate with - and for us to support each other, of course. cythe August Blooms duskymonkey danvers curmudgeon CoachTsWife doodlemommy bootsorhearts1 @anyoneelsewhopostsinthisthreadstillandiforgotbecauseisuck Thankful for all of you! Taitai yeah, it isn't surprising the way this has gone down. Her husband really wanted to cancel the trip when everything was so bad in China. He was even worried about having to close the daycare and at that time I thought that was a bit OTT, but he was absolutely right. I do wonder what it would be like if they hadn't gone. She asked who would need care if she opened up and I think only 1, possibly 2, families were still in the position to need care. The rest of us are staying home. She mentioned something that made me think she also didn't want people in and out of their home. Which makes sense because that could put her family and business at further risk. It is a hard situation all around.

I am enjoying the slow pace of everything, but I am a total introvert and home-body. We've been able to play outside and go for daily walks and I just love it so much. I think I will look back on this time with some fondness, at least after the terrifying bits fade in my memory.

Seriously the last 2 weeks have felt like an eternity. I’m really hoping April will bring better things but I think it will be more of the same we are heading towards a total shut down because people aren’t following the rules. Good news is my employer has given me a schedule that will give me a bunch days off for heath and safety. Bad news is I now have a bunch of days stuck at home and have to figure out what to do with these kids 😂 In all seriousness we are adjusting to the new normal and this week is much better than last. Taitai I had to look up the chairs you mentioned and then was surprised that those are the ones I use at work. I highly suggest if anyone is going to work from home for the foreseeable to get one, they are amazing and can survive a lot of wear and tear.

As if it wasn’t bad enough already it snowed 6 inches overnight and is super cold 🥶 If we’re stuck in isolation forever it would be nice to at least play in the back yard...

[/quote] yes, same! I really like not feeling like I need to be somewhere or always go go go. I wish H was helping with the kids a little more, but I know he’s worried about his job and is trying to be “on” 100%. Otherwise it’s been nice being home.

curmudgeon my H is with the boys most of the day, as his virtual teaching duties don't take as long as my work and can be intermittent. Whereas I need to be online all day and have meetings daily. The boys hang out in my office space some, and I enjoy it as long as they're not being crazy. But I def have it easier than my H even though I'm working way more hours, because he has the boys most of the day.

August Blooms The Aeron chair is awesome - I love it for where I live too, because it’s breathable and doesn’t get super hot with the tropical climate we have. It’s an investment for sure, but sooooo well worth it if you are working from a home office most of the time. doodlemommy Ah - sorry about the snow. That’s crazy - 6 inches in April! Hope it that’s away soon, so you can get the kids outside. CoachTsWife I’m in the same boat as you - H has the kids for most of the day, since his work is more flexible and my job requires me to be on calls for a good chunk of the day. He is a super hero. We’re also fortunate to have a great support network out here, which helps sooo much. But still - being in charge of home schooling for a 5 and 2 year old is tough.

The government here just announced that all playgrounds and parks will have to close until April 30th - including private playgrounds at condos/apartment compounds.
I’m freaking out. Having the green space on our compound for our kids to run around in and play in each day has been a life saver. Now they expect me to keep my kids inside my apartment for a MONTH?!? We have a balcony with a water table, but...oh my gosh - what is this going to do to my kids health and mental well being? I am hoping I will still be able to take them out for walks on the compound - like, even just a visit to the front gate and back. I just....this is really, really, really fucking sucks.

Oh no, so sorry Taitai. I can't imagine. Neighborhood parks have been closed in our area for a week or so, but we can still go for walks and play in the yard. I'm sorry you're being so limited in where the kids can play.
