Also we just bought an awesome play structure for the backyard since we moved and have space. They must have had last years on sale because it was 50% off! Has room for 3 swings so all my kids can play. Plus a fort with a slide, climbing wall, basket ball hoop. My dad and DH picked it up this morning and the boxes are in the garage until the snow melts and they can build it. DS thought they were going to shovel the snow and build it today. Sorry little buddy

I spent the first ten minutes of the morning digging a wet pretzel stick out of DD2’s sippy cup straw. She must have shoved it in there last night as they finished eating and I didn’t see it since I was switching laundry over. 🤦♀️

doodlemommy How cool about the play set! My BIL and sister put one like that together last year, and they said it nearly caused them to divorce (TIC) 🤣. Good thing your H and dad can take care of it! Crazy about the Costco thing too. We have been going through that off and on here where I live for months now. Hand sanitizer and masks have basically been immediately sold out since late Jan. I scored some hand sanitizer at the Japanese grocery store last week...I was stupidly excited over a container of hand sanitizer 😂🤣

DD2 has Influenza A and I am at a loss. This is time #4 in two and a half years of life. She has had the flu shot and flu booster. 4 fucking times we’ve tested positive though.
H is mad because he took DD1 to a bday party fully expecting me to switch off with him once I got back from taking DD2 to Urgent Care. We both thought it was *maybe* strep and we were more likely wasting our copay with pointless testing. I am now home with DD2 instead.
Like dude - no mom wants another mom showing up to a bday party of young kids after taking her flu positive kid to urgent Care. I get we’re all tired but also 😑😑😑

danvers Oh no! I’m so sorry about your DS2 getting Flu A again. I’d be feeling the same way if I were in your shoes. Hugs. I hope your DD2 recovers quickly. Also - I would also be telling my H to go to the party in my stead. Not fair to the other kids and parents if you were to attend. Men don’t think of these things most of the time though....

I took DS2 to the pedi today to find out why he gets diaper rash so often and poops like 10 times a day. She was stumped and didn’t think food sensitivities or intolerances, and no intestinal issues since he’s steadily gaining weight. I don’t see how potty training will happen any time soon with this going on. Late catching up. So sorry for your lil man. I have nothing to add other than there was a period of time with DS ( I think? omg! can't remember which kid! ) around 1+ yr where he was getting diaper rashes and typically doesn't and sounds crazy but I swear when I stopped giving him oranges it got better. I add oranges to all his fruit smoothies at that age. Does he still get pouches, maybe there's an ingredient in there that isn't agreeing with him? Also lil fella poops multiple times a day 3-4x so that is also making it difficult to PT him and if I don't get him cleaned up immediately he bum gets super red however he's actually become an expert about announcing he has pooed in his diaper immediately after, I just wished he was able to let us know when he need to go..meh! With DS he would go once a day and usually shortly after he wakes up so that too made it much easier to PT him. ETA. I think I did mention about Triple paste. Whack on a dollop of it before bedtime and it should speed up healing. It's expensive but it works.

I am also trying not to catch covid 19, they just announced another case here and it came from Los Vegas. I give up 🤷🏼♀️ there’s no way to contain this at this point. I am taking precautions but trying not to stress too much. I booked my kids birthday at a gymnastics in May and a night in Great Wolf Lodge in April so hopefully it doesn’t spread too far by then. Other than planning for a pandemic, life goes on as usual. I off work today and am hanging with DD2, it’s fun to chat with her since her verbals are so much better now, she has turned into a little parrot copying her older sisters way of talking to me. It’s funny. From what I've read and I am sure you have too that it's mostly affecting people with underlying health issues and older people. Hopefully it can be controlled in your area and you guys can have a good time with the kids. I also love that I can have a convo with lil fella although there's lots of why, what, how involved from him and trying to explain things to an almost 2.5 year old is quite a challenge. I don't remember if DS started all this why, what and how's this early. Also thinking of you

I left work early and surprised DS at the bus and took both boys to the park. DS’s classmate was there so they ran off to find sticks or something while I chased DS2. Then we got chocolate shakes and DS2 dumped it all over himself right as we pulled in the driveway. 🤦🏻♀️ Girl...I still have no faith with DS in possession of any beverage other than water in the back seat and he'll be 6 in a few months.

danvers, Nooooo!!!!! Thinking of her and you and praying she's on the road to recovery and that you all will be spared. How is she doing today? FWIW and you know this I am sure, flu has been so bad this year. My sister and my nephew also caught the flu last week and everyone in the family had their flu shot. I believe this was also the first for my nephew - and he's 10.

Oh well...COVID 19 is here and the Gov declared a state of emergency today. Most cases have been travel related. Containment is just inevitable and especially with most people not having common sense, it was just a matter of time. A anyways we're just going to avoid crowds and just take it day by day. Lil fella has been getting really naughty and he's been throwing everything that he doesn't like. Ugh! curmudgeon roles reversal, DS pushed lil fella this evening and he hit his head at the corner of a table and has a pit as DS called it on his forehead...DS spent the rest of the evening in his room. I tried my best to not punish him awfully and managed to control my emotions and did our normal nighttime routine with the added lecture but man...I am just thinking what if lil fella hit his eye at the corner....Gahhh! I just turned away for a second to take a bite at my dinner. Also hubs needs another reminder that cups and dishes don't walk themselves into the dishwasher. Come on! I am not even asking him to hand wash them just put away your own dishes! I am already picking and tidying up after all the kids and you all know what that's like.

duskymonkey So glad your little guy hit his head in a spot that wasn’t totally bad. We’ve had similar experiences here, and I’ve thought those same things. Like, omg - what if DS1 had jumped over DS2 and landed on his head instead of the floor. It’s like you can’t take your eyes away for one second! I guess this kind of worry never will go away though....I don’t know what I will do when my boys start driving some day! 😱 We are getting more and more COVID-19 cases now. I bet schools will be closing soon. It’s just a matter of time. There are like 4,000 suspected cases in my country - 1,500 of them in the hospital. Of course nobody will officially say they have it...but ugh. We’re just doing our best to avoid crowds, public spaces, etc. I’m very nervous for the large population in my country that has HIV and latent TB. I think this could be really damaging to those with co-morbidity factors, who don’t have the $$ or connections to get into a hospital. Just seeing what is happening in northern Italy is scary. Reminds me of how it started in Wuhan. Well, enough doom and gloom. At least our nanny made a super delicious apple pie today! It’s already 1/2 gone. Yum 😋

My DCP is currently on a cruise. They really wanted to reschedule (due to covid-19) but in the end didn't. She said we need to have backup care in place for 2 weeks after they get back in case she is quarantined and unable to watch our kids. She also said if we don't want our kids in her care, she will hold the spot for 2 weeks and we won't have to pay for those days. Finding alternate care for 1 week is hard. But finding alternate care for 3 weeks will be impossible, especially with DH having no more PTO due to his back surgery.
IDK what we're going to do. If the kids go back to daycare upon her return, we are not going to see our parents for at least 2 weeks. My mom has a suppressed immune system due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and she is just now getting over pneumonia. MIL has asthma and gets bronchitis at the drop of a hat. It is all really frustrating. There are 2 cases in my metropolitan area I believe, as of a couple days ago. I've been at home with the boys and not paying as close of attention the past couple days.

CoachTsWife This might not be a popular opinion, but I’m kind of ticked that your DCP decided to go on a cruise, given the COVID-19 issues and the fact that she would risk being unable to provide care for children following her cruise. Like - what the heck. That would be unthinkable over here for somebody worked in childcare. H’s extended family is planning to take HIS 92 YEAR OLD GRANDMA on a cruise in August. I’m just like WTF NO! They’re crazy.

Like - what the heck. That would be unthinkable over here for somebody worked in childcare. H’s extended family is planning to take HIS 92 YEAR OLD GRANDMA on a cruise in August. I’m just like WTF NO! They’re crazy. No, DH and I are right there with you. We're beyond frustrated. The trip was given to them as a gift - her in-laws took their entire family on the cruise. I think they felt bad postponing when they didn't pay for it. And I can see the side of "someone is paying for a vacation for us and by golly we're going to take advantage of that". But still, she's risking her income for at least 2 weeks, if not longer, if she's under quarantine OR her clients decide they don't want their kids in her care for a while. We really love her, but this has been incredibly frustrating. I'm not terribly worried about us or the kids getting sick, but if we are exposed it could really affect our parents and that's where the frustration is for the most part. Plus if DH is exposed to a confirmed case, as a teacher he would be quarantined I assume, and he has ZERO paid time off until next school year so we'd be really screwed if the school didn't cover those days. If I have to quarantine I can work from home. But I can't work from home AND have the kids home.
Part of me thinks it'll all be ok and we are being overly cautious, but we also have to be prepared for worst case scenario. Thinking through all the "what-ifs" is exhausting.

I have to go to Walmart later and I am afraid half the stuff I need will be gone because of covid19 panic 😬 Like DS is cutting his molars so I legit need children’s meds. And the baby has been chewing a lot (and is 5 months old, what?!) so I want baby meds on hand in case he starts cutting teeth too. And we randomly run out of Clorox cleaner/wipes and the mini bottle of hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes dH keeps in his work truck (because flu season and people use his pen etc so he cleans them at the end of the day) all this week. There are only 90 cases in Canada at the moment, all travel related. Very few where I live but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time. My in-laws are in Australia right now for my nephew’s wedding and I kinda want to stay away from them for an additional 2 weeks after they return just in case but we’ll see. They are gone for 3 weeks and just left on Sunday so it just depends what happens in the next couple weeks I guess. My mom is immune suppressed after her liver transplant so I don’t want to do anything that could put her at risk. Well and the baby too

Well I was able to get children’s meds no problem thankfully. No sanitizing wipes of any kind to be found. Also no hand sanitizer or any Clorox/Lysol wipes but I did get a bathroom cleaner. TP totally sold out too (I didn’t need any but I did notice) and randomly flour was almost totally gone which I also needed since I am down to a couple cups only. A rather frustrating grocery trip as the store was packed too and people were stocking up like the quarantine might be 2 years instead of weeks 🤔

I also found out that DH’s contract has a quarantine clause randomly. So if he is quarantined he will get paid 👍🏻 He would just need an official quarantine not a self determined “feels sick” or whatever. And if schools are closed or whatever it’s no big deal since I’m on maternity leave and home anyways.

Sorry to turn this to a Covid-19 thread. So we are heading into March break and they’ve decided to close the schools for 2 weeks after. So far daycares are still open and according to our director the province would have to direct them to close. Which is strange since school age kids also go to daycare.
I luckily went to Walmart this morning to grab a few things before all this happened. It’s going to be crazy everywhere this weekend. I don’t understand because cases aren’t out of control and most are mild enough not to require hospitalization. And people aren’t quarantining themselves, they are just telling us to be careful. I’m avoiding my step grandmothers 100th birthday party on Saturday because I am at high risk for having been exposed due to my job and I don’t want to possibly be asymptomatic and pass it on.

DD2’s flu A has turned into pneumonia. She’s on antibiotics.
H and I have been alternating every other day to stay home with her. I realize this is not ideal in containing any germs or limiting her exposure. But you know - US health care laws being what they are we can’t miss too many consecutive days ourselves without being docked pay or disciplinary action.
I’m staying home tomorrow. I’m actually hoping the schools close here to give us a chance to regroup because writing sub plans for a 7 hour day is just as exhausting as teaching.

We have no confirmed cases of the virus in our county or the neighboring county. And only 3 cases in the city of Houston, but our schools have closed. Our paw patrol live show is postponed (thankfully- I was worried about that one). The school closings started a panic today at stores. I’m off tomorrow and I think H’s office is going to announce WFH starting Monday.
I feel like I’m missing something. Are the effects of the virus more than what they are saying? Of course I don’t want it to spread, just like I don’t want to get the regular flu. But I thought the majority recovered?

curmudgeon It’s about 10-20 times more fatal than the flu, and it’s actually a very dangerous disease. This has been consistently stated by WHO officials (who have seen what has happened on the ground in China) as well as CDC officials. The problem is that certain individuals might have a genetic pre-disposition to have an extemely adverse reaction to the disease. I can’t tell you how many reports we’ve seen in China/Asia about otherwise healthy people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s take a very sudden turn for the worse and die. These people did not have any co-morbidity factors (like diabetes, HIV, other respiratory diseases, etc). About 20% of people who get it will have a severe reaction that often causes hospitalization or some form of critical care. This is very different from the flu. The issue is that about 80% of the people who catch it have a mild reaction, so their experiences give the entire community a false sense of security. We can’t ignore the 20% who really have a tough time with COVID-19. Another problem is that unlike other viruses (like ebola) those who get it don’t have a lasting immunity. Sometimes the immunity is only for 1 month, and then you will get re-infected. That is why young or otherwise healthy medical workers in China have been dying from this. It’s much worse than the flu - and it really pisses me off to hear that this issue has been politicized in the USA by people like the president and Fox News. WTF - look at what has happened in Italy, China, Iran, and South Korea. It’s friggin’ serious - especially for those with compromised immune systems and the elderly. danvers Oh no! Sending thoughts and prayers for your DD2. I am so sorry.

Taitai thank you. That is what I have been having trouble understanding or finding information on. I knew there had to be more to it. I’ve been impressed with what Dr. Anthony Fauci (the top U.S. infectious disease doctor) has said about this issue. If you read his statements and follow his advice, you will see that he has a very solid understanding of the seriousness. He also is good at ensuring his comments don’t cause hysteria, as that’s not good either. Very fact-based assessments from him.

Well...there's a confirmed case in the next county (we live right at the border ) and the person was out and about in the community so spread is inevitable at this point. School just called a couple of hours ago and they're closing tomorrow for the next 2 weeks and I won't be surprised if it could be more. I guess I didn't expect it to happen this fast. I was hoping we could get through another week right to start of Spring break. Anyways I think it's good that they're taking precautions to try to control the spread. I guess it was good that I turned down the project last week ( the other is still effin lingering!! ) because with 2 hell beasts in the house I sure as heck won't be able to do any work at all. danvers I am so sorry. Sending your baby girl all the hugs and kisses and praying she gets better fast. FYI....the district announced too that all teachers and support staff will be continued to be paid even with closures. I know it's different for each state and county and yes it stinks that our healthcare system is so tied up with an employer.

doodlemommy, I think it's wise fo keep your distance from your ILs. One fo the first cases transmitted here were from Aussie travelers. The other first case out here were from contact with travelers from Italy. Its just insanity at the stores here too. I didn't expect it but this morning it was certainly busier than normal and I saw a couple of people with 2 cart loads of stuff and their gargantuan SUVs packed to the gills! I was just getting our mid week produce. With the way people are I unfortunately will need to at least get extras of somethings? I walked past the canned goods aisle and it was sparse along with the pasta. The kids refuse to eat anything canned so I dunno what to do and hope I can run out to get fresh produce at least once a week? I am not even sure if they'd eat frozen veg besides corn and peas. Gah!

Thanks for all the good vibes and thoughts!
2 doses of antibiotics and DD2 has more energy than I’ve seen in a week. She slept 12 hrs last night and woke up asking for donuts! She still has a fever but I feel much better about this all than two days ago. Both of us have a ton of congestion (I knew I’d get something from her) but otherwise she is much improved!
We are now watching Frozen II for the eleventy thousandth time. I’m making a grocery order for H to pick up after school. If the schools close after today it will be nuts here.
