**TW**
Anyone watch this documentary on the women who killed herself and 7 other people, (4 kids) which included her own daughter and 3 nieces? It was a wrong way car accident.
Want to discuss?
Edited bc words are hard.

I didn't watch but I remember this from when it happened. Was it alcohol? But the family said she never drank. Am I thinking of the right one?

I watched it a while ago. It was so sad What do you think happened? I think for sure she drank. Her toxicology results said she did and she also had pot in her system. People who saw her leave the campground said she seemed sober as did the witness at the gas station she stopped at early in the day, she made a phone call to her brother early in the day and he wasn't alarmed, but she was later seen with her hands on her knees as if vomiting and her nieces called him a couple of hours later saying she was acting weird. It sounds like she was mixing hard alcohol with the drink she bought at Mc Donald's and she got trashed during the period between the first and second phone calls. The people who opened her van found an empty bottle of vodka on the passenger's side that is shown in the documentary. I can't think of any other reason she would be drunk and there would be an empty bottle in the van if she did not drink it. Because of the amount of pot in her system she either smoked it in the car while driving or during that phone call her nieces made to her brother. I know her husband stands by his claim she was suffering a medical problem that caused her to be disoriented and had an excuse for why the bottle was in the van, but toxicology and witnesses make it pretty clear she used pot and vodka and drove.

I just wonder why..everyone was so adamant about her not drinking and doing drugs. Why all of the sudden do it especially with kids (2 of your own) in the car? It just really makes no sense. Plus the witnesses on the road say she was driving pin straight on, not a swerve in the final moments..

Plus the witnesses on the road say she was driving pin straight on, not a swerve in the final moments.. I think she was a closeted alcoholic myself, I really can't explain why else she would drink with kids in the car. My theory is the trip should have been 30 minutes and took 3-4 hours instead. I think she would normally have been drinking during that period which is why she was sober the first part of the trip. She had a tooth or headache as she tried to buy pain pills at the gas station. I think at this point she either took some edibles or started drinking mildly to kill the pain and because withdrawl from not drinking was setting in. The witnesses early in the day have her as sober. The other drivers saw her sober at first, then a little aggressive but still precise, then aggressive with her horn honking. I think she intended to just take the edge off and either the pot mixed poorly or she started to get drunk and kept going. She probably rationalized she would be home before it hit her. The phone call with her brother where she intercepted the phone call and drops the phone on the road sounds drunk and not intentional so I think the looking straight ahead was her trying to focus on the road.

I just rewatched part of it. That scene with the expert trying to explain how even if she had a medical problem it wouldn't explain the 10 shots was hard to watch. The level of denial is unreal.

It was actually a large bottle of Absolut that was found broken, but it fell out of the driver side, not the passenger (which makes it seem even more obvious she was actively drinking).

I agree with everything you've said in this thread and yes, the amount of denial going on is crazy. The husband doesn't even think Brian needed to see a counselor. I heard that the parents of the three girls have since had a new baby daughter. I can't imagine their pain. This documentary was added to the list of reasons that I'm team Trust No Bitch with my kid. You just never know what's going on with people.

I've seen the doc and just listened to the True Crime Garage podcast last week. I think she was drunk, and a closeted alcoholic.
The TCG hosts point out that she and her H worked opposite shifts, so she was often home by herself in the evenings after the kids were in bed (it's been a while since I've seen the documentary, maybe it's mentioned there too). I think she was doing a lot of drinking then and hiding the evidence.
