What’s the latest with your almost (or newly) 3 year old? What’s on their Christmas or birthday wish list?

Happy November friends! I took M to see a local ballet group performance based on Mother Goose and she was enthralled. I’m excited to get her in ballet classes in the new year!
I’m struggling for gift ideas for this second kiddo. Both kids are getting camping chairs, headlamps, and binoculars from us and their big joint gift from Santa is an airfort. But I have no idea what to tell grandparents. I think for her birthday she’s just getting the princess dress she’ll wear for her Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique makeover at Disney as an official present. But again, grandparents. Anybody gotten Kiwi/Koala crates for their kiddos?

Very timely thread as I just started the pre-holiday purge carrots! I have two boxes of outgrown toys and books to donate. Both kids are getting high quality rain gear and a digital camera. I’ve got some board games and books on their lists. I have duvet covers for both of them. Not exciting for them but needed for their winter blankets. One set of grandparents does magazines. We get Ranger Rick Jr and Highlights High Five. We got National Geographic Little Kids last year. I liked it but it only comes 6 times a year so I’m not sure I’ll ask to have it renewed. Dd loves her Calico Critters. She just has one house and a bunny family with minimal furniture. I put the baby tree house, sandbox/pool, and trio of baby friends on her list. Ds wants a bat house because he’s my nature nerd.

Games we love: Haba’s First Orchard Haba’s Animal Upon Animal (for older kids since it’s a stacking game) Pancake Pile-Up Trouble
Games I’m thinking about: Haba’s Hannah Honeybee Haba’s Go, Go, Little Penguin Spot-it Jr, Animal edition Sum Swamp (intro math game for the big kid)

carrots the binoculars and headlamps should be a big hit! We did little adventure kits the other year and my kids love them. They each have a set of binoculars, compass, and magnifying glass.

We asked E tonight what she wanted from Santa and she said a small toy school bus. She is so odd! She just had a birthday and got a ton of stuff. I need to do a big purge of stuff. She loves puzzles, Frozen, coloring, and Toy story. I have a few ideas on an amazon wish I created. Not sure what to get I think I want her big gift to be a balance bike.
Where do you purge most of your toys? I don’t want to throw stuff away I want to donate.

peaseblossom55 if it’s a nice toy and I’m feeling motivated, there’s a kid consignment shop I’ll go to and get store credit. But most of the time I just drop stuff off at Goodwill. I know our preschool will take specific toys too.

I just did that pre holiday purge too! And of course M noticed and is taking inventory of what’s missing even though it was stuff that hadn’t been played with in a while 🙄 peaseblossom55 I either donate toys to our daycare or to a group that hosts a free store for foster parents to shop. M is really getting into her balance bike lately! DS is still riding his at 4.5 but my niece passed her old one down to M.

Lakes we got First Orchard on your suggestion and it’s still a huge hit! The 4.5 year old still loves it which is nice because everyone can play without my having to explain everything at every turn. Plus he gets really, really intense with competitive games and then it’s no fun because you know a meltdown is coming if he doesn’t win. I had to disappear Candy Land for awhile.

Aww that’s so cute peaseblossom55! Hard to say no when she’s so excited about it haha. I don’t not expect M to do well with Santa this year. Her stranger danger fear is big so I fully expect her to lose it for the third year in a row 🤦🏻♀️ We a week from Friday and she’s been consistently saying she wants “a princess” which should be pretty easy to manage! ETA I didn’t know what that was so just looked it up and it appears to be on sale at Target through Wednesday so hopefully you can snag a good deal!

So we are at the phase where E is scared to go to bed. Scared of the dark scared of being on her own. We tried night lights extra snuggles. Eventually after about an hour we have to walk out of the room and let her cry a bit.
Any tips?
Also at first she said she was scared of her crib so we promised converting her crib to a toddler bed. Not sure if that will make it worse or not.

peaseblossom55 awwww poor E. Ds had a little phase like that. I know you said you already tried nightlights but this owl light worked for ds. It stays on for about 10 minutes and he knows how to push the button to turn it back on. I think he likes that he has control over it. Now he uses it to stay up and “read” his comics after we turn the light off. Munchkin Light My Way Nightlight www.amazon.com/dp/B009UPUC36/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Xqn8Db2YD5XFXMy kids have always responded well to stories when it comes to social/behavior issues. I bet there are some good books on the dark and bedtime.

Dd had her last post-op appointment for her eye surgery and passed with flying colors 🎉🎉. There is no crossing at distance and barely any up close but it’s controlled with the bifocals again. She’s back on the 4 month schedule. I’m glad to be done with that.
We got our Christmas tree on Sunday. The kids are so excited for everything this year. I love it. Even if I had to redecorate the tree during naptime since they put all the ornaments in the same spot.

That’s so tough peaseblossom55! We’ve dealt with this with DS too. He has a Hatch light that stays on all night plus a flashlight (so he has control over it) and now sleeps with his door open. We do a lot of reassuring that he’s very safe and we can hear him but still have some tough bedtimes that end in tears.

Thank you Lakes and carrots. It was tough tonight. I may try the flashlight idea or she has this lamb that lights up too. I worry it will turn into playtime with her. Thank you. Tonight I had her for bed and it wasn’t too bad.

Lakes. Ah great news! I am glad the appointment went so well and the surgery was a success. We don’t go back to the eye doctor until January, maybe February. We had our last pt appointment for E and her toe walking last week thank goodness and over the past few days she began walking on her toes again. 😩so I’m just keeping up with exercises And reinforcing everything. Sigh.....

I did most of them the other week but have a couple oddly shaped things to wrap so I was waiting for boxes. I’m done shopping for actual Christmas. I only have half of my parent’s present but I won’t see them until later January so I’m not in a rush.
