Does anyone have experience with the mini pill? My doctor suggested it because of nursing. I haven’t been on birth control for a long time. I’ve basically been pregnant or breastfeeding since 2013. I’m worried about side effects.... you know, weight gain, acne, low sex drive (lol like it can get any lower!!!) Plus, 13 out of 100 women using it might get pregnant, with a greater risk of ectopic pregnancies. Lovely.
What are your thoughts? What are you planning for birth control?

SO I got an IUD on Wednesday and yesterday it fell out. SO I'm not sure what we're going to do about birth control for the next year. I'm thinking I'll probably just have to try and remember the pill. :/

I took the mini pill for a few weeks after DS1 bc I was scared to get an IUD. Then I heard too many stories about ppl getting pg on it so I got scared and finally got the mirena. (Which I loved and will be getting again.) I don’t recall any side effects from the mini pill.

I took the mini pill for awhile with DS and don’t remember any huge negative side effects.
Not nursing so I’ll be looking into the best option at my 6 week follow up in mid Sept. Thinking about an IUD. We have decided to wait 4-5 years to decide if this LO is our last or if we’ll try again in a few years. I feel about 99% certain that I’m done and will likely have some serious talks with MH about a vasectomy in the future.

I do not do well on hormonal birth control of any type, it kills my sex drive and affects my mood in a really bad way. I've tried the mini pill and Mirena and failed at them both. If I were going to get anything I would try the copper IUD this time, but the current plan is for me not to go anywhere near H until he has a vasectomy and is in the clear. Do not want more babies.

No, I’m only kidding! Just saying in a perfect world I’d love lots of kids but it’s impossible to keep up with food, clothes or shoes as it is!!

DS just started public pre-k so we avoided having 2 in daycare by a mere few months. 2 in daycare would be impossible for us financially.

We are going to have 2 in daycare for about 1.5 years. Which I knew before getting pg so our plan is to supplement our income from savings bc it costs more than our mortgage to pay for both.

I used to have a warehouse of girl clothes to cycle through 3 times, that saved some money! We are pretty fortunate with daycare too, we have 3 kids in an in home daycare but it is still less than our mortgage. A higher COL area or a daycare center would have for sure slowed our roll procreation-wise.

I didn’t like being on the pill when I was just on it for PMS so I went off it then and we just used condoms. I might have used fertility tracking to avoid as well. Then we TTC’d for DD, I BF’d past a year so we were ready for another kid before my period was back (like 18m PP). Not sure this time, DH thinks that if he wants another, it would be after DD goes to school in 2 years. Probably condoms & fertility tracking again.

@kore In between our kids we were fine with BFing and avoiding ovulation time. It was always ok with us if we had an accident because we wanted more kids anyway. Now that we have 3, I need something a little more foolproof. (Except that does not seem to be the mini pill, lol!)

robinanne No I almost put in my post that it’s not practical long term! From what I know about the mini pill it probably isn’t the best solution either.

Only negative thing IMO is an OB has to place and remove them. You can do hormones (mirena) or not (copper - paragaurd). I had no period on the mirena. I heard that copper one can cause stronger periods.
