Figured I’d start a new randoms thread.
I forgot how hard these early newborn days are. I’m struggling a little. I’m holding in mind that it does get easier, I know it does, but damn lack of sleep and hormone changes combined are hard.

I know the newborn days are hard but I still can’t wait to get this baby OUT. Hang in there friendofdobby! At least you know there is an end. With my first I couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel sometimes.

I hear you cookswithwine. Cheering you guys with inside babies on - I know you and @kore are both getting closer! Evenings seem to be the worst for me mental health wise. It’s amazing what a shower and a cup of coffee in the AM does to help. And absolutely, it’s good to know this time around that it does get better.

friendofdobby N is almost 7 weeks old and things are finally settling into a routine. I was NOT a fan of the newborn phase the first time around but I'm enjoying it so much more this time. Probably because I know what to expect. But it's definitely getting easier already:)

friendofdobby: The early PP period is the reason I went on medication for my anxiety. It is SO HARD and I actually enjoyed the NB period... when I wasn't having panic attacks obvs. Definitely try to fit that self-care in there. <3

Hi everyone! I have been in the newborn haze since C was born last week. I have also been struggling with some postpartum hypertension - I wound up in the ER Friday with a BP of 180/110. It went back down (140/90 is my postpartum "normal", apparently) and they aren't too concerned unless I start swelling up or shedding protein in my urine. I'm a little concerned, but whatever. They think it's exacerbated by sleep deprivation (because of course it is) so I have been trying to rest whenever possible with 4 kids running around. Otherwise though things are great! C finally learned to sleep somewhere other than in my arms and we get 2-3 hour stretches most nights, which I can deal with. DH has been wonderful about helping out as much as he can in the MOTN, too.

Hey! Things are good. Nights are rough. Sometimes he'll give me good stretches in his bed but mostly he wants to sleep on me. He's pretty gassy too so that leads to a lot of unsettled grunting. He's such a laid back little smoosh and hardly cries.
He's also a little traitor and smiled for the first time at MH this morning....
ITS FINE I JUST CARRIED YOU FOR 9 MONTHS, BIRTHED YOU AND FEED YOU CONSTANTLY. ITS FINE. REALLY.

Guys i can’t get the baby to sleep during the day anymore. Kind of makes the 3 kids thing a bit challenging!

still working on this breastfeeding thing over here. Just had a Lactation consultant appointment which was helpful. My nipples are killing me, but I have the prescription strength cream as of yesterday so 🤞🏻 for some improvement.
I’m not sure how long we’ll make it doing this. It feels like so much work with no end in sight and with needing to also parent DS.. I just don’t know. One day at a time right?

They helped me so much if you need some relief!!

I am also struggling, friendofdobby. I have been weighing DS on a bathroom scale every day and he doesn't seem to be gaining (my boobs have historically underperformed for my other kids, too) and it is so hard to chase 3 other kids while being glued to the couch breastfeeding. I promised myself I'd give myself a little grace this time around so a switch to formula may be in our future soon. I am mostly dreading the cost 😬

Love tit for commiseration peachesncream. I finally kind of lost it last night with the pain and have just been pumping all day and bottle feeding. I decided to give my nipples time to heal and then see if we can try again. But if it never works, it just is what it is. I support giving yourself grace and I totally feel you on not looking forward to cost of formula.

Had my sushi burrito and now I'm returning to my root beer & "labour inducing" spice cookie fest.

I HIGHLY recommend the Haaka for “pumping” breast milk. I put pumping in quotes bc you literally don’t have to do anything except attach it to the opposite boob from the one the baby is nursing on. I used it for the first time yesterday with 2 feeds and got 3oz! I’m so excited! Lol

peachesncream Even though this boy is 6 weeks old, H and I keep saying “she” because we are so used to having girls. I thought of you and wondered if you’ve made that slip too!

I am sobbing while packing up all my girl clothes smaller than 2T to donate. I was so mentally prepared for another girl I was not ready for this!! Stupid hormones. Don't get me wrong, I love my little dude though, and it's pretty dangerous for me to have a kid who basically requires a whole new wardrobe 😂😬

DH went back to work yesterday and I successfully survived solo parenting this weekend 🙌 I am looking forward to just having the baby this week while DH is at work, I won't feel guilty doing nothing and taking naps 😂 he has been very project oriented the past few weeks which has been wonderful but has definitely kept me on my toes!

I have no idea how you solo parent the entire weekend. DH and I are about to rip our hair out together with just 2 kids! Monday cannot come fast enough.

Random - My hands and wrists always hurt from holding/feeding the baby. Does anyone else get this? I’ve had it with all my kids.

robinanne that happened to me with DS. It was the tendons of my thumb on just one side. Look up DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis and Finkelstein’s test. It started from holding my hand in a weird position for extended periods while breastfeeding a floppy newborn, and took like 2 years to go away, but I never pursued any treatment for it. PT might help.

What do you know about baby acne? He’s got it pretty bad and I’ve never dealt with it before. I’m just trying to wash his face with baby soap at night.,

I remember DS having some baby acne robinanne. I think we just did the same thing - gentle cleansing with soap and water and it resolved before too long. Anyone else dealing with gas issues? DD seems to have a ton of gas at night. Lots of grunting and wiggling and often times it wakes her up. I’m dying a little of sleep deprivation. Any suggestions? We are thinking of trying the gas drops.

I'm buying LilyPadz off an acquaintance, hoping she'll drop them off today. Despite DS being #2, my body is still in the panic mode of producing WAY too much milk. I tried putting the Milkies thing in my bra (I do have a Haakaa but it doesn't suction on properly until after the milk goes down) and it got overfull and leaked! robinanne, peachesncream, I have one of each now and I say she about DS all the time.
