I just got an rx from my PCP today and I'm excited to try it. It's basically Wellbutrin (anti-depressant) and Naltrexone (anti-abuse drug for opioids and alcohol). It supposedly helps with mood and appetite, which I feel will help me since I do a lot of emotional/stress eating.

Has anyone here taken it? How were your side effects? Did you see results? I am already lowering my calories and moving more, but have hit a wall somehow.

I take Wellbutrin which has one of the same main active ingredients (bupropion) but I haven’t heard of Contrave

It's for weight loss. I'm super short (4'11.75") so my BMI is high (I'm ~200lb), and I need to lose weight. I have tried exercise/diet modifications with not a lot of success.

ETA: It'll have the added bonus as an anti-depressant since I'm pretty sure I have a mild case of depression. So hopefully this will be something that helps.

I've been trying to lose weight since my son was born almost 5 years ago. I've taken off about 20lb in that time with better food choices and exercise, but I've got inflammatory issues and insulin resistance all working against me (and genetics - both of my parents are obese). Plus I got pregnant/had a miscarriage in April/May, so I'm still carrying a lot of hormonal weight from that too (which my PCP said is a lot harder to lose). I can't seem to go below 195lb before gaining it back. I think during the time I tried Keto I got to 189 for about five minutes, haha. I had a love/hate relationship with Keto as it was super satiating, but I wasn't disciplined enough to meal plan like I should have, and I fell off that wagon after about 3 weeks.

ETA: I realize I wasn't super clear about my intentions in my OP. Whoops.

I was prescribed contrave but I couldn’t commit / it was a lot of pills. I know that sounds stupid but it was one pill for a week then two for a week then three for a week then four. I had some kind of mental block with it.

I started qsymia in May and am having success on that. It’s topomac and fentermine combined. I’m not sure if it’s the drug or if I was just ready because I was committed since day 1 and it does take some time to kick in. So I haven’t added working out but I’m using isagenix shakes because I find them filling and I’m just making good food choices - smaller portions - more fruit and salads. There is a good Facebook group if you are interested. In fact I think I’m more knowledgeable than my doctor because she’s like there are higher dosages and I’m like I’m not supposed to move up unless this one isn’t working...

Anyway - it all works when you stick to the program so I just need to make sure that when I quit this someday I don’t revert to old ways...

I tried it two years ago for probably about 2-3 months. I had some loss initially, but then experienced daily headaches and it just wasn't worth it anymore so stopped taking it.
I did have luck with phentermine several years back but didn't stick to the diet and exercise like I should have and gained the weight back after stopping the pills.
