Continuing with my spending frenzy, I'll likely be purchasing a washer & dryer with the 4th of July sales coming up. What do you have and why do you love/hate it?

Ok, so I had to buy a new washer in January after mine kicked the bucket. Because I live in an old as f%*# house, and the basement stairs are narrow, I could only get a compact one. And there are literally only 2 to choose from. (Still a complete mystery how a full size washer and dryer got down there in the first place; and the old one is still down there for that reason, ughhhhh).
But what I can recommend is He. My water bill dropped by 20% even though I am doing more loads (bc the machine is smaller). And my electric bill dropped some too.
I just don't like the ergonomics of getting things in and out of it as a front loader.

tgrimes my washing machine is a reliable ole broad and does her thing down in the basement. She came to me from a craigslist purchase when we rented our duplex. Our dryer, he also came to me from Craigslist and is a good little soldier. Both are well past their prime but still have plenty of washes and dries left in them. I'll use and abuse those two as long as they'll let me and then I'll buy something bright and shiny! I'm not much help in this arena, but please AW whatever you do buy because new appliances make me happy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We got a front loader something or other. Honestly, no idea.
I'll report back in the morning.

Our washer and dryer came with the house. They're old but still in working condition and MH won't let me get new ones. But, I've heard that the front loading washers tend to get a moldy smell after a while. IDK if that's common or just some people not cleaning them properly.

We just bought new ones but honestly went with middle of the road bc price is what we were most concerned with. This was the week we took babies home and were on leave and very budget conscious. Honestly I can't even think of the brand, I'll text H and ask. I like them just fine. They sing to me for about 2 minutes when finished which is better than a nasty beep sound and long enough that I never miss it from upstairs (they are in basement). Top loading washer, front loading dryer. They're white and pretty.

Ok they're Samsung. Lower end. That's all H knows too.

Speed Queens!!! I just got them a couple months ago. Big box stores generally don't sell them. They are old school, made in the USA, agitator style. I love them. I think the new fancy washer dryers suck. I had some and my clothes were never clean! They always had detergent stains on them (not enough water). So I went old school and back to basics. I love the Queens!

I did a lot of research to find out I can't fit anything in my laundry room. For like .5 secs we considered make construction so we could get a nicer washer and dryer but then realized it wasn't even close to worth it.

I wanted the LG with steam settings. Honestly most were pretty similar. Samsung for a while was having problems with explosions. Also if possible gas dryers work better than electric.

I think maybe water can get trapped in the rubber seal or something?

Really? Only one of you bitches owns a washer & dryer? LOL. Our washer and dryer came with the house. They aren't a matching set and the dryer is obviously newer than the washer so I'm guessing the original dryer gave out at some point. Anyway I have no opinion as of yet because I haven't had to purchase and so haven't done any research.

Omg my comment never posted and has been sitting here for a week m. Hmph. Here ya go, if it's not too late...
We have an LG high-efficiency top loader and matching dryer. Did not want a front-loader, I've heard too many horror stories of leaking, mildew, etc.
Love the dryer, no complaints. It has a steam setting, which is great, and takes care of big bulky loads easily and quickly. Two enthusiastic thumbs up, 5/5.
I'm conflicted on the washer. I like the features and options in theory, but in practice sometimes it annoys me. Big bulky loads get off-balance easily, and this causes the machine to go through multiple rinse cycles once you manually get it balanced again (so much for saving water). The wash cycle is super long (50+ minutes...much longer than my mom's traditional top-loader), and the speed wash cycle is fine if something just needs freshening but not for kid-grime. I'd give it a 3.5/5 I think.
FWIW, I know the towers are supposedly rough on clothes, and traditional washers use more water, etc, but I feel like my mom's 10-15 year old machine does a great job and it's nowhere near as "high tech" as mine.

We have a GE set. Top load washer because I dislike the front load ones. In my experience, they get gunky around the seal and small things like socks and underwear get caught in it, too.
I love my washer. It has a precise fill auto sensing setting so it fills just enough for the load. It's got a bunch of options, but isn't too complicated. It has a hand wash setting which I love for delicates. Our dryer is pretty good too. A fair number of options, pretty straight forward. No issues with drying except for when I try to wash our comforter. They were a good price, too. We've had them for 3 years so they're relatively new. No idea how they'll hold up, but so far I'm really happy with them.
