Can y’all help me with food? I’m working to wean and switch to WCM. DD2 has been less than interested in the WCM and honestly in food in general. We’re still early in the process (DD2 isn’t 1 quite yet) but I’m nervous about how little she eats. DD1 are everything at this age so we were spoiled the first time around. DD2 has recently decided she hates all fruits and veggies and the only thing I can get her to eat are carbs and meat 🤷🏻♀️ I try offering the fruits/veggies first and when she’s really hungry but she’ll toss them off her tray or refuse to eat them off a fork.
What are your kids eating? What does a normal day look like? Bc DD1 was such a great water I wasn’t worried about dropping bottles but now I am 😬
*I know this is likely a phase but she’s starting real DC soon and I have to pack food for her so I’m really nervous*

N is a pretty good eater. I think there are a few things she doesn't like but I'm drawing a blank.
Her favourite veggies are beets, broccoli, celery, carrots, and peas. Both my kids love lentil, quinoa, or fish patties, and you can sneak veggies easily into those.
Favorite fruits are berries of all types, watermelon, avocado.
Have you tried smoothies or baking fruits and veggies into things?
What about soup or stew? Pureeing veggies into pasta sauce?
I find with N that if she gets reallllly hungry she's less likely to eat well, and seems to get mad at her food.
A typical day for her is cereal and fruit for breakfast, leftovers for lunch (if no leftovers we do simple things like noodles, avocado, peas, cheese, etc.), yogurt and rice crackers for snack, and dinner of something like meatballs, roasted veg, rice with peas. Shrimp stir-fry is a big hit because of the sauce. Just a couple examples.

I can't remember who suggested @feedinglittles on IG a while ago but it is my new favourite resource. They had a post about starchy brown carbs and why toddlers love them. They are predictable and mild and they aren't bad. If you're kiddo doesn't seem to like fruit and veggies it's ok if they don't eat them but don't stop offering them in new and interesting ways. You can do zucchini noodles mixed with regular pasta noodles, avocado or berries mashed on toast, blended or mixed into sauces.
I struggle some days to offer a variety because my kids have obvious favourites.
Right now E usually eats coconut yogurt or oatmeal with fruit for breakfast. Sometimes eggs, if SO is home to cook 'em.
I cook a big pot of rice or quinoa and a bunch of hard boiled eggs and some beans once a week for lunches. My big kid likes to have "a platter" for lunch so E gets the same. A grain, whatever protein we have ready, and some fruits and veggies. Right now she loves steamed broccoli, green peas, pickles spears, sweet potato wedges, bananas (sometimes), berries (I buy a mixed bag of frozen), mango, kiwi and quartered grapes.
We do lots of simple meals for dinner. Pasta and sauce with lots of veggies, tacos or fajitas, roasted chicken or turkey meatballs with mashed potatoes and veggies. Pretty standard but easy and yummy stuff.

LOL snowmoon I think I’m the one that recommended Feeding the Littles 🤦🏻♀️ I just realized that she’s probably teething and maybe dealing with the fallout of a nasty ear infection so eating isn’t really top priority. We tried kiwi, apples sautéed in coconut oil, and cucumbers (again, still a hard no 🙄) Avocado, tomatoes, and blueberries were all rejected again. Her schedule is usually: 630-7: wake up, nurse 730-8: two(!) eggs, Cheerios, toast, a fruit is offered 10: bottle/nurse 12: lunch - protein (shredded chicken, lunch meat, ground turkey), cheese, veggie(roasted something, green beans), fruit (Orange. Strawberries, pear), milk 230: bottle/nurse 4: snack (fruit, crackers, whatever) 536-6: dinner, whatever we’re eating broken down. Tonight it was a burger, kiwi, cucumbers, fries, milk 7: nurse/bottle I try to make sure she has access to a water cup throughout the day. She eats all of her breakfast, some of her lunch, and at least a little dinner - unless it’s somwthogn she loves like Mac and cheese, a rotisserie chicken, or shrimp 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe part of the issue is that Im usually only around for dinner and that’s when she eats the least? And maybe some guilt over weaning?

Haha! Well thanks for the recommendation Leaf 🌱! Dinner is the only meal we all have together as well and I think it is super distracting for both of my kids. They tend not to eat nearly as much as they do at breakfast or lunch.

Just keep offering new foods in addition to safe ones. I bet her appetite will increase once she weans and what you're describing doesn't sound super limited to me.
As much as possible, eat the same foods at the same time so that she can see the rest of the family eating.

Its common for kids to front load their calories at breakfast and lunch, I've read. I wouldn't think its a distraction as much as it is how hungry they are after a night of rest.

Did/do you do pouches at all? That's how N got/gets most of her veggies.
Her favorite food is Italian pasta salad. It's super easy. You get a bag of frozen cavatelli, a bag of frozen veggies and cook them both. Then throw them together with italian dressing and parmesan cheese. She could eat SO MUCH of it.
Her typical day food wise is... Breakfast - Cup/bottle of milk and then when she starts yelling, a waffle Lunch - 3 eggs, scrambled. I think I'm going to start getting frozen veggies to throw into these. Dinner - typically whatever we eat but if it something she doesn't care for, Italian pasta salad or whatever other leftovers we have in the house. Bottle before bed.
I also keep a pack of chicken nuggets in the fridge if all else fails. She also eats veggie chips/straws constantly throughout the day.

Leaf 🌱, maybe you're expecting her to eat more based off of what DD1 ate? I think what she's eating sounds like enough?

My kids eat like ravenous wolves at breakfast and by dinner time you’d think I was poisoning them by their reactions.

We do pouches here too - especially if I feel like veggies have been getting the shaft Our schedule is usually; 7am(ish) nursing 8am breakfast; berries, Cheerios, toast with pb or avocado or yogurt on it, maybe a banana with a sippy of milk If he’s having two naps (we are transitioning to one right now) then he nurses when he gets up. Otherwise I might nurse him a bit if he’s going down for one nap. Lunch is usually l: cheese, crackers, cut up veggies, chicken or whatever we had for supper the night before Another nurse around 4pm Supper is whatever we are eating; a protein and veggies usually. I’ll almost always give the baby and the big kid a piece of bread with butter to go with dinner because they’ll eat that if nothing else. Then nurse before bed. I think you are fine Leaf 🌱. My dr and others have told me that kids won’t starve themselves. So barring any reason why your babe couldn’t physically eat, then just keep offering.

Leaf 🌱, maybe you're expecting her to eat more based off of what DD1 ate? I think what she's eating sounds like enough? I think so. What I listed isn’t what she eats though - it’s just an example of what we offer. The only thing she’ll definitely eat most of is breakfast. Everything else ends up on the floor after a bite or two unless it’s one of her favorites like shredded chicken or Mac and cheese. Im really hoping this is a short phase related to teething. And my sensitivity to it is just heightened by my anxiety over weaning.

Leaf 🌱 I think if she's really hungry, she'll eat. I'm sure once she gets over the teething/ear weirdness she'll be good to go. The second kid is so much easier in some ways but also such a mind F sometimes.

I’m late, but here’s our typical schedule/meals:
6/7 - wake up/nurse 8:30/9 - breakfast 11:30/12 - nurse after morning nap 12:30/1 - lunch 4:30 - snack/milk sippy 5:30/6 - dinner 7/7:30 - nurse before bed
We’re also transitioning to one nap, so on those days he gets a bottle/nurses around 10 instead of after morning nap.
Breakfast: We usually do a combination of fruit (berries, grapes, mandarin oranges, and bananas are the favs), scrambled eggs, peanut butter toast, oatmeal, pancakes, or yogurt. Daycare said he LOVED grits with cinnamon.
Lunch/dinner: He has whatever we have or leftovers. Favs include shells and cheese, grilled cheese, cheese sticks (there’s a pattern here...), pasta with some kind of sauce, pierogies, shredded chicken, chili, soups/stews with a protein and mixed veggies, fruit. He doesn’t love veggies, but I found some frozen veggie patties at Trader Joe’s (carrot/pea and broccoli/cauliflower) and he seems to like those. He also had a deconstructed taco last weekend that he really liked.
I definitely notice him eating more for breakfast and lunch than dinner. I never really know how much is “enough”, but even if he has a couple light meals or meals where he eats like 3 bites, it usually all evens out over the course of a few days.

J lives off pouches. He hates veggies, but I’m able to sneak some into s.
I do peanut butter toast snack for an extra calorie and protein bump when I feel he hasn’t eaten well.
