My DS1 is 4 - it’s so crazy how quickly the time has gone! We’ve recovered from the big weekend party, and now I’m on my first overnight work trip away from DS2. He isn’t weaned yet, but I didn’t realize how much milk I still make. The first 24 hours I pumped 11 oz - yikes! I’m thankful that DS2 doesn’t mind drinking cows milk instead of my milk while I’m away.
Also - pumping is the worst. I hate it.
The good news is that my trip is only 4 days, and it’s suuuuuper busy/packed. I think the time will go quickly, and I’ll be home before I know it!

We had such a fun weekend! I dreaded seeing Monday morning come but here we are. Saturday morning we went to Sky Zone during their Toddler Time (kids 5 & Under) and they had the Paw Patrol characters there. The kids had a blast and were so well-behaved. DD is already talking about going back and I know that she'll expect Paw Patrol to be there every time now, hahaha.
In other randoms, H just called with a tax update. The taxes for his company are done and it looks like it will be good news for our personal taxes. I always try not to get my hopes up for a good return, but I so hope we get a good refund this year.

The time change has DD1 questioning why she is going to bed when it’s light out. She doesn’t fight or tantrum, but she also doesn’t fall asleep for a loooooooong time and then she’s a grump in the AM. We had given DD1’s super effective blackout curtains to DD2 because DD1 is pretty much done napping and nighttime wasn’t an issue.... until now. So off to the store we go this afternoon to remedy this.
We basically make their rooms dungeons of darkness and it’s difficult to remove/fix/whatever during the day to let sunlight in without a long fix every night. So while I love letting the sunlight in during the day, I love early bedtimes and sleeping children more.

We had a great weekend - mostly. We went to the zoo Saturday and we had a really fun time. It was the first time going where DS2 didn't stay in the stroller most of the time and he absolutely loved walking/running everywhere. He wore himself out, it was so cute. He hated the carousel though.
Yesterday was another good day until DS1 puked. We thought it was a one off puke but it proved to be a bug. We were up most of the night with him. I thought he was doing better but he just lost the ice chips I allowed him to have. We're trying really hard to contain it and DS2 is ok so far. Both boys had a stomach bug in January, and again in February, and now this. Really tired of this.

She napped until 5:00pm yesterday and then was still flopping around in her bed at 10:40 last night when I laid down. She rarely naps anymore and I always forget how much I hate myself when this happens.

DST is the worst. We are also having problems with it being light out and trying to get DD1 to get to bed.
Both kids are home sick, sick enough not to go to daycare but they are still a handful. Tylenol has revived them, naps need to happen.

doodlemommy it has fixed itself. The incident report went to the next person in line for review and they found the claim to be uncredible and was dismissed then and there with no harm to either party. They did say that she has filed a few complaints like this, so that's fun. Great way to work your way up, by lying and trying to throw others under the bus.

🙋♀️
DS2 has only napped for an hour and 45 minutes each day for the last 3 days. It's driving me crazy; he's normally a solid 2 1/2 to 3 hour napper. Womp womp.
We're planning DS1's birthday party for next month. 7!!! So far we have like 35+ people coming so I'm crossing everything for nice weather.

Plus the quarantine/disinfecting efforts, which half the time don’t work...and you’re like - all that energy wasted for nothing!

DS fell asleep in the van on the way home from the grocery store/shoe store. He stayed asleep through me bringing the groceries into the house (i put the van in the garage and left the door open while I put the perishables away. So then I decided to go wash the van on the way to pick up DD from school and he stayed asleep through that too! But of course trying to get him to sleep this afternoon was frustrating. He took forever to fall asleep and then woke up after 40 minutes. He has been asleep in my arms in the rocking chair for over half an hour and my back hurts

DS2 didn't want much supper and felt warm so I took his temp and it was 101. He fell asleep in my arms in a noisy, bright living room before bedtime. UGH. 😭 Have I mentioned how much I hate this?
DS1 seems better and has kept pedialyte and water down so he's on the mend, it seems.

I am trying to catch up and want to respond about E pulling up to stand! cytheIn in other news we survived the blizzard and power surprisingly stayed on despite browning out heaps of times and tripped the breaker a whole bunch of times which was annoying. I was definitely prepared for it to go out. I’m certain if we weren’t ready, it would’ve gone out for sure...that’s always the case amirite 😂 also hubs and I were also surprised our patio furniture didn’t move an inch! Our neighbours trampoline blew over the fence despite the anchors they out in and the chain held it from before my blown to Kansas. A 10 foot spruce tree got ripped off the ground and another neighbors tree got decimated from the wind plus heavy wet snow.

DD1 had her 4 yr check-up today. Doctors suspects she hears a heart murmur so we will be following up with an echo sometime in the near future. No one is worried, and I have lived with a functional flow murmur my whole life, but the follow up is to ensure it truly is just a functional insignificant murmur.
DD1 is a super good listener and very “brave” if we tell her to do something so I’m not worried about the echo itself, just hoping we can get it done soon and the cost isn’t outrageous.
*there is no price on my kids well- being, we just have crummy insurance so it’s going to be a lot I’m sure

We had our appointment with the specialists at Shiners today. They were great, everyone was so kind ect. They did two more xrays and they didnt show much except that "she is constipated". She poops every day, so because an xray was taken before she pooped today I'm not sure qualifies it as constipation.
Anyway, the doc said she looked good overall but the "constipation" in combination with her hesitancy to stand she thought warranted a referral to a neurologist. She said it could be like a signal failure between the brain and the lower extremities.
But she also mentioned twice that this referral would be like checking a box, which to me means it could show something or maybe shes totes fine yadda yadda yadda.
So I'm all up in feels tonight because she was so scared today during the xrays even though I was right there. If we do a neuro consult they're going to want to do MRI or CAT scans - whichever is which. More pokes, prodding and a loud, scary scan because maybe it could show something. Idk what to do. I dont want to do a scan without good reason to, I just dont want to do that to her.

cythe oh it’s so scary when they have to do X-rays and all that. We went through all that with DS after he had a febrile seizure and it was so traumatizing for us but he doesn’t remember a thing if that helps. I think he was 2 or just 3. ETA if they do an MRI they will probably put her under. Still scary but she will just take a nap and then wake up and be none the wiser. Otherwise they are wriggly worms and won’t stay still.

cythe this is really rough as a parent. You have a lot of choices and decisions to make and that load can be a lot to bear. I think I remember from when DD1 was injured last year and they thought about a CT they told me they usually sedate babies and toddlers for those kinds of things (unlike the X-ray where they just hold them down and let them scream). We decided against getting it done because DD1 seemed fine but maybe others can speak to it. It such a hard place because eventually it reaches a point where you’ve done all the tests and.... nothing?!?!? Do what your gut tells you and it will be the right decision for E today. The right decision tomorrow might be a different thing and that’s ok too.

Thank you guys. I'm glad to know that they sedate them because I just think about her crying and reaching for me today and I cry all over again.

cythe, Sending hugs. I always preach to go with your mom gut, whatever it is. Take everything the doctors have told you, along with what you know about E, and make your best mom decision. You're doing great.

Echoing others and sending hugs cythe. danvers DS1 has an "innocent" murmur. We were sent to a specialist for testing when he was 2 and everything checked out ok. The ECG wasn't too bad, the worst part was holding still. I hope everything checks out ok for your DD1!

Yesterday at lunchtime we were approaching 48 hours of stomach bug with DS1. He was able to keep some fluids down Monday evening, but started losing everything again yesterday. After talking to the nurse at our peds office, we went to urgent care at our Children's hospital for IV fluids. It took them 3 tries to get the IV in and it was a really horrible experience for DS1. He woke up looking, acting, and feeling SO much better this morning, and I'm so thankful.
We had a recheck for DS2's double ear infection yesterday afternoon as well. While I took DS1 to urgent care, DH took DS2 to the ped. He'd spiked a fever on Monday and had a decreased appetite yesterday, but seemed fine while they were at the dr (of course). His ears were clear, no fever, and Influenza test came back negative. He threw up after they got home.

Bedtime Books:
Does anyone successfully do some sort of “reading together” with little and big sibs? Or maybe I just need to wait until DD2 is older and can sit for longer books? I’d like to keep condense that part of bedtime down but right now that seems impossible. All tips and tricks appreciated here!
DD2 tolerates board books (preferably with tabs and touch/feel or noise) and DD1 loves books like curious george, berenstein bears, etc. I don’t see this working but maybe it does with time and practice?

I’ve tried and failed, DD2 will not sit still and they just make a game of piling books in my lap. 🤷🏼♀️ I will try joint story time when they are older.
