It’s decorating day in the Lake Household and I am stoked. I love the build up to Christmas with all the activities, traditions, and decorations. Mh is making homemade waffles and I’m about to dig out the pine scented candle.

DS1's school is participating in a Christmas parade this evening and it's too busy for H to be at so I'm going to ask him to put the lights up outside while we're gone as a surprise for the boys. I don't have a ton of interior decor but that's something on my to-do list this weekend.

H put up our outside lights last weekend and I loooove them. The inside has not begun. We were hoping to get our (live) tree today but it’s pouring so that’s not happening. Hopefully tomorrow! But then I leave for a work trip tomorrow afternoon so decorating probably won’t happen until next weekend. Boo! Let me know how your littlest do with the ornaments Lakes and thelittleredm! I’m expected a LOT of reminders about not taking them off the tree for M!

carrots, W actually has done fairly well about leaving the ornaments alone. He was really into hanging them up so the first night was constantly us telling him to leave the tree alone but it only took a day or two before he stopped messing with it.

Me, every year: yes, yes Mr. Lakes. I’ll pick out a smaller tree than last year. Sure thing!
😬
I need to get more lights. This tree is a beast.

No outside decor H hates getting up on ladders. I did decorate when I had off yesterday when I brought E home she noticed every single piece of decor. She called the stockings big socks. She loves the tree it sans ornaments right now. She tried to blow out the light thinking they were candles. She walks me over to where the tree is and says mommy sit and we sit to look at the tree for a minute. It’s so sweet. I am luckily 50% done with my holiday shopping.

We don’t put lights on the house but we have one perfectly shaped pine tree out front that we put lights on. I keep my decorations contained to the living room and kid art decorations in the dining room. peaseblossom55 my dd called them socks too! But she was more concerned that Mr. Gobble, our Thanksgiving centerpiece, disappeared. She just kept asking “gobble? gobble?” 😂 carrots it’s only been one evening but so far, so good. After inspecting the tree she basically ignored it. Which is hilarious because I cannot get her to stop touching the ornaments on the tree at school during drop off.

Pdq E in glasses. We got them tonight. She took them off once or twice and we left them Off for dinner and then bed. The plan is to have her wear them after daycare the rest of the weekend and then all weekend. By then hopefully E will be comfortable enough and be good to keep them on in school. Lakes one day two hours and already so many smudges what do you use to clean them.

Eeeeeek peaseblossom55! The pink glasses that match her outfit! The pigtails! I cannot handle it. I’m glad she did well on your first day! I was surprised how well dd did with them overall. She still has off days but not it’s not the battle of wills that I was envisioning. The smudgy glasses drive me insane. My optician gave me a spray bottle of cleaner for heavier cleanings. He said to spray the lenses, dab (not rub) them dry with a tissue which will leave them a bit linty, and then use the microfiber cloth to finish cleaning them and grab the lint. I do that twice a day, normally at bedtime so they’re fresh for the morning and when she goes down for her nap. The rest of the day I use the microfiber cloth or if I’m out and about, my shirt.

Thank you! It’s better now. I think it’s a combination of her touching the lenses less and me just releasing it because the smudges don’t seem to bother her. It was probably more distracting for me to be trying to clean them all the time.

I forgot it was Green Day for ds. A couple other kids weren’t in green shirts either so I’m not the only one but I’m feeling an irrational amount of mom guilt over a dumb shirt. At least I remembered it was his turn to bring in snack!
My friend’s baby girl is healthy and 10lbs 6oz 😳 Ds was 8lb 8oz and I cannot even imagine two more pounds.

I cringe at your DS's birthweight and it's only 10oz more than W's Lakes lol I hurt just thinking of a 10lb baby.

carrots thank you! Lakes I am pretty crappy with that stuff at daycare. Tuesday was xmas hat and socks that didn’t happen yesterday was wear red and white and that didn’t happen either. I hope to get better with it as I get more used to the kind of things daycare does like this and as she gets older and understands. E left her glasses on from the moment she got home until bath almost 3 hours without taking them off or fussing about them.

peaseblossom55 I was going to check in with you today. I’m so glad to hear that E is doing well with glasses! It really helps reduce the stress when they cooperate. Dd has her opthamalogist follow up this Tuesday. Her eye still crosses sometimes. Not as often and I don’t know how long it takes for her glasses to help relax the muscles but I’m starting to get anxious for the appointment.

I hope Tuesday goes well. We have an appointment mid January. This weekend we will be doing glasses all weekend. So we will see how it goes. Debating whether to have her wear them through gymnastics class or not.

Debating whether to have her wear them through gymnastics class or not. Hmmmm do you help her at gymnastics? And how crazy is class with tumbling type stuff? My first instinct is to try it. My goal was to have dd’s glasses on as much as possible so she’d get use to them ASAP. If she doesn’t like it or they keep falling during an activity, you’re right there to hold them the rest of class. Did I tell you I ordered stay puts the other week? They’re little ear hooks that go on the arms and they’ve been amazing. Her glasses kept slipping down her nose and while it was adorable to see her push them back up, it was obnoxious. Now her glasses don’t move and it’s a nice alternative to using the strap.

Lakes how was the cookie baking? I remember all the pics of those yummy cookies. We didn’t have her wear her glasses during gymnastics this week maybe next. Today went pretty well our first almost all day attempt. We took them off for nap only. She did a few times today them off herself but she was agreeable to putting them back on. I so worry she will take them off at daycare a teacher won’t notice and Emi or another kid will play with them or break them step on them.

Yay first day of daycare and glasses went well such a huge relief. Hopefully it stays this way. Hooray! I really think our kids are at the perfect age for a change like glasses. They kind of understand and want to make us happy. My nephew was too young to understand so it was difficult and I feel like my boundary testing 3.5 year old would be difficult too. One thing to double check is making sure they’re having E wear them all day. My sil thought things were going well and then she found out daycare was only having my nephew wear them for like one hour day. They’ve been great about it once she really explained how important they were to save his vision.

So much butter. I’m pretty sure I’ve put on 5lbs just from the cookies. We make six giant trays so there’s 4lbs of butter and a few blocks of cream cheese in the dough batch.
We saw Santa at the beer garden Sunday. It went about as well as I expected it 😂. We had a great time though! Ds talked a big a game but froze when he got up there. Dd started to freak which freaked out ds. Mh and I are smiling and look great because we had our beer. The perks of seeing Santa at a bar!

The glasses saga continues. The glasses are helping the cross at a distance but it’s still crossing too much for things up close. So dd needs bifocals which are $$$. Sighs. Good thing she’s cute.

Lakes I’m so sorry. I’m sorry it’s extra money now for bifocals. I hope they help! We told her teachers they only come off for naps. I saw her pictures from daycare they were on in every picture.
