I have surgery tomorrow and SO is already complaining about having to do all the things I do every day (eyerolls for days). But he did ask me how he’s supposed to warm up a bottle for B if he’s on the go with the kids... and I have no idea. Which made me realize that actually besides being at home and warming up a frozen bag of pumped milk, I haven’t a bloody clue.
Tell me how to do this so I can tell him. I have a bunch of pumped milk in the freezer and we’ve given B some of that in the past so I don’t think there should be issues with that.
But. Do we need to carry a baby cooler for it? How do we warm it up out and about? (Now I just run some warm water in the sink and place the bag in it until it’s the right temp. Actually can someone tell me if that’s wrong too? I don’t want to poison B over the day and a half he’s has to take a bottle.

I think you can usually ask a restaurant for a cup of hot water to warm up a bottle. Just make sure that the cup is only about half full so you don't have it spill over when you put the bottle in. I don't know if the running warm water in the sink is bad...but that's what I used to do too when DD was a baby. I think I did used to carry around an insulated baby cooler for the breast milk. Sorry, if it's not entirely helpful...I'm trying to remember stuff from 5 years ago. This time around we're just doing formula.
Hope your surgery goes well.

Good luck tomorrow! Hope it goes smoothly and your recovery is quick.
Honestly I’d just say stay home at feed times if it’s too hard for him.
But otherwise, the cup of hot water trick is probably his best bet. If he’s not going out for long he shouldn’t need a cooler for frozen milk, does your diaper bag have a little bottle/milk insulated pouch in it?

I hope your surgery goes well leatherpants. I'm assuming during my recovery period we'll never be gone longer than breast milk is good unrefrigerated. We've never given DS a bottle that was warmer than room temperature so we just have a bottle sit out until the next feeding. I can just put the bags in the fridge to thaw, right??

I was thinking we’d put the frozen bag in there with an ice pack maybe and then he can get a cup of hot water wherever they go to thaw/warm it up? It’s probably just one feed tomorrow and then maybe here or there next week depending on recovery.

Tell him to take a reusable coffee cup with him and get water at Starbucks or Tim Hortons or whatever he is close to.

@leatheroants defrosted milknis good for 24 hours. He can defrost a bag, put it in a bottle with a cap, sticknit in a lunch box with a freezer pack, and then either bring a thermos of boiling water or ask for some at a restaurant/coffee shop.
If you’re ok with it;m, this could be a good opportunity to give him some formula to try. I might do this with DD bc I’m going away for two days and it would be a zillion times easier for DH.

So I’m going to go ahead and shoot down the asking for hot water. We did this once and when a too hot cup came we moved it to the middle of the table thinking it’ll stay far away from my 3m (this was DD#1). Somebody knocked it over and it burned her. I mean rush to the ER skin peeled off permanently scarred (still very visible at 5yo) kind of burn. She was 3m and I still cry thinking about this. It was horrible. I always nurse in public and F that if anybody has a problem with it (I realize this isn’t an option I’m this case). How long would he be out and about? I would feed right before he leaves and maybe heat a bottle before leaving and maybe it’ll still be room temp? Yes to thawing in warm water. Good luck!

So to be fair, I was all high on some decent narcotics after surgery so I’m probably missing some finer details, but SO said he got hot water from Tim’s in a to go cup in the car but it didn’t totally do the trick. So he said he put the bag on the dashboard and cranked the heat and it worked quite well.
I may be fuzzy on details but I know for sure he was extremely proud of himself. And B has taken the bottle pretty decently and he’s still alive so apparently he likes car milk too.
thanks for all the help everyone! It really eased a lot of stress today
