So H and I were discussing where baby will sleep. With DS, he was in the bassinet of the pack n play in our room until about five months. Then he moved to his own room in a crib. We would like this baby to be in his own room sooner. Has anyone gone straight to crib? Or before the baby is sleeping through the night and was it easier or harder? We didn’t sleep well at all when DS was in the room with us, because every sound woke us all the way up. How are you all handling the sleeping arrangements?

I am the sucker who still sleeps with her toddler so I am no help here. Interested to see what others do!

I only had the DS in our room for about 8 weeks then we moved him to the crib in his own room - I didn't want him in our room once I went back to work. It worked out fine. I would like to do that again this time, but the baby will be sharing a room with DS (after being in our room for at least 6-8 weeks)...

After learning the hard way with DS1 we moved DD to her room at 6 weeks. I slept much better after that but had the video monitor yo reassure me she was breathing and I’m still. I plan to do the same for this baby as I am not pleasant with no sleep.

With ds1, we tried the bassinet in our room for 2 nights. He hated it and screamed non stop. We also couldn't sleep with all the grunty newborn noises. The next day I put him in his crib for a nap and he slept for 2 hours. So, we put him in the crib at night from then on. Ds2 was in the crib in his roon from the first night home too, and we plan on doing that with this one as well. I will add that our home is small, and the bedrooms are very close to each other.

We also had DS in the bassinet portion of the pack 'n play in our room until about the time I went back from maternity leave. I was debating putting the baby in his room/crib from day 1 this time around, because I also remember finally sleeping a lot better after he went in his room. But I think I've decided we're going to put the pack 'n play up in our room again, just because (hopefully) trying to figure out the breastfeeding situation, plus newborn waking up non-stop, plus c-section recovery, I think it'll be easier to just have him in our own room. Plus, the baby's room and DS' room are pretty close together, whereas our room is all the way down the hall from the other bedrooms, so I'm hoping this makes those first weeks a little less disruptive to DS' sleep. But once I go back to work in February, baby is definitely moving to his crib in his room so I can get as much sleep as possible, plus, when DS was that little, making the move really was no big deal at all, whereas I could see it being a bigger deal if he had been an older baby.

We did the same thing as you with our first. But when we moved him into his own room he was still getting up every 2-3 hours for many more months. I didn’t mind going into his room for the feedings & I liked not being so afraid to make noise in my own room.
This time around I’m not sure what we will do because DS2 will have to share DS1’s room once he moves out of ours. I’m afraid if I keep DS2 in our room too long the transition will be harder... too soon, and DS1 might be woken up a ton at night.
I don’t see a reason why you couldn’t put the baby in their room right away as long as you have a good monitor.

I have no experience with moving a baby into their own room early on but I know plenty of parent who have done it.
For us, LO will be in a bassinet/co-sleeper until they are 4ish months old then depending on their personality and other factors we will bedshare and follow all safety precautions for that. At some point after that we will move him into his own crib all night. DS1 was ready to move to his own bed at around 12 months and DS2 was ready at 18 months.

B slept in a pack n play in our room until he was about 2. We were living with family so we didn’t have much of a choice. He did have a nursery, but his crib was on the same wall as my dad’s bed in the room behind it and I had too much PPA about disturbing him.
B has his own room in our house now, and he used to sleep great in there. Unfortunately he sleeps with me and H sleeps in B’s room because I can’t sleep with H’s snoring.
I plan to have L in our room until about 4 months. Hopefully both boys will adjust well to sleeping in their own rooms.

He'll be in our room at least six months, up to a year. DS1 was in our room until he outgrew the bassinet at five months, and even then I didn't want to move him (even though every time I got up to bf I went to the rocker in his room to do it). This time we'll stretch it longer to put off putting the brothers in the same room. I can't imagine sleep training and all that with a toddler in there too.

notelsie MH snores really loudly too. We have a big bedroom and sleep in separate beds on opposite ends of the room right now but once the baby comes H will be kicked out and put in the 3rd bedroom or something. I can’t deal with a baby waking up every 2 hours and his snoring waking me up.

N slept in the Rock N' Play for 8 weeks - then we transitioned him to the crib. 2-3 rough nights but I got him in there and he's been in a crib in his own room ever since. I plan to to do the same with this baby. Between 8 and 12 weeks is when we will try to get him in his room.
I hate room sharing.

DS was such a loud sleeper. I think we had him in the room for a total of 3 days before we moved him to his own room. It was right next door in a small ranch. It was so much better that way. We have a new house now so I am not sure what we will end up doing. I am planning on seeing on how things go. I am not determined one way or another. I say you do what works best for your family.

DS slept in pack n play in our bedroom for first 8 weeks then moved into crib. At that time his room was just down the hall so it was easy to get to him since he was waking up a few times a night. He was also such a loud, grunting baby so kept us up a ton even when he was asleep in our room.
For this little girl we will start the same way but not exactly sure when we will make the move to her bedroom since it is upstairs away from us. I don’t think I will want to go up and down the stairs in the middle of the night but we shall see. Might even put her crib in the 1st floor guest bedroom so she can at least get used to it but not be so far away.

We went straight to a crib with DD and it was great. We had a video monitor and our room was right next to hers, and she ended up being a good sleeper. We did use the rock n play for when she has frequent wake ups early in the morning and for naps, but her main stretch at night was in the crib.
For this baby, we want to do the crib again; but we have a queen bed in the nursery, so I may sleep in there if he has frequent wake ups. We also have a halo bassinet a friend gave us that we may put in our bedroom.
