I’m one week postpartum. My nipples are killing me and I don’t know if it’s normal or not. DD1 made my nipples bleed and ended up having a posterior tie that needed to be clipped. She had weight gain issues as well.
I don’t have bleeding with DD2 and she is gaining weight like a champ, but it’s so damn sore I don’t even want to latch her on.
Is this normal pain that will work itself out in a week or so or do I need to be getting her evaluated for tongue/lip tie (I know she has a lip tie)? Basically, do I just have PTSD from DD1 and this takes more time?
Thank you!!

I would try to insist on a comfortable latch - make sure you're making a breast sandwich, aiming the nipple towards her nose, and that her lips are flared out. You can use an Epsom salt soak (dissolve some Epsom salts in hot/warm water a small cup, lean over it to soak each nipple for a few minutes) and coconut or Olive oil to help with pain that may come from cracking or existing sore spots.
However, I do think some soreness initially is inevitable. Their mouths are so small at first, and you're both getting settled into nursing.
If she's gaining well, and you don't have other signs of a tie (clicking I think is a classic sign) I'd give it time.

I also really liked the Lansinoh Soothies, but they are $$. Maybe something to keep in mind if the soaks aren't enough or you do get some cracks.

I've spent the past few days walking around with the lanolin in my pocket. I put it on after each feed. And having it in my pocket keeps it soft and spreadable. 😏
