It’s been on my mind for a while, a long while, but I am thinking of venturing into the world of fashion blogging/IG’ing.
Clothes, unpretentious, but pulled together business/casual looks for the average (and by average I mean upper end straight/plus sized) Mom.
I know what I want to pull together but I was hoping to message with someone who’s maybe been there/done that. And I thought there might be a poster or two here with some experience.
One of my best friends is a graphic designer/talented amateur photographer and she’s on board to help.
Any suggestions or words of wisdom, discouragement?? I guess my struggle is I see a lot of straight size fashion bloggers and then I see a lot of plus size/body positivity/booty shorts bloggers. And I am hoping to offer something in between....
Basically love your curves, but it’s okay to just a normal suburban woman loving your curves.

Not crazy! I have no advice, but if it's something you want to do for fun, I say go for it.
Okay, I lied. I do have some advice. Try and do several weeks of posts before you launch, and then upload them slowly as you make new posts. That way you won't feel a ton of pressure to create new content if you have a hard week. I know several IG lifestyle folks and this is what they do. They are usually working ahead and can always post something in between if it's time sensitive (like a sale or promotion).

That’s a very good reminder, thank you!! I used to blog fairly regularly about books back in the day and that was my strategy then. And then DD was born and my blogging went to shit! I like the IG platform and think that appeals to who I am right now and depending on how it catches on, I would look at a blog that mirrors it.

Let us know when you go live. I'm a curvy size 10 and your IG sounds right up my alley.

Let us know when you go live. I'm a curvy size 10 and your IG sounds right up my alley. I’m excited and feel ready. Part of the reason I’ve put it off is my H is totally supportive but not the most patient or attentive photographer. And I need someone who’s willing to take a silly amount of shots so I can use the best one. So I’m thinking strategy at first will be to use the gf to take a bunch of different shots and map out when to use what when.

I don’t think you’re crazy at all! I think your body type is underrepresented it the personal style blogging world, I can think of maybe 2 others and 1 of those is more lifestyle
I had a couple of friends that did style blogging, it was more work than I assumed but they had fun with it.
As a tip my friends always said they got more views on posts that were shot outside

I have Girl With Curves, and while she’s awesome and I love her sense of style, the price point isn’t for the average Mom. I think average Mom, who’s size 8 and over (and I only say that because under that size are very well represented in the fashion IG world) needs to see how to make a $30 dress from Old Navy look higher end. Which is exactly what I am doing today.

I think you should give it a try. I am not plus sized, but I do want to know how to dress up that Old Navy dress.

I agree with the others - go for it! I think your target audience is definitely under-represented, and your objective is solid.
Do you plan to allocate a budget and set up a spreadsheet (or use some type of program/application) to track your expenses and any purchases made for the blog/IG? I say this, because if it kicks off and you end up getting income from it, you could offset that income with your expenses come tax time.
Also, I’d suggest trying to network with other bloggers/IG folks, so you can cross-promote your platforms. Are there ever influencer/blogging/SM conventions in your area? If so, might be worthwhile to attend one, so you can network and learn more about details like traffic analytics, press packages, how to get your views to show up in google, etc.
Mind you - I have zero experience in this area, but I do read a lot of beauty and fashion blogs/IG accounts 😊

For expenses, yes I plan to track those. I've already setting up planning documents so I can keep things moving and running smoothly.
I do intend to reach out to do some cross-promotion once I have built a bit of a platform. As for influencer meetups/conventions. I've been searching but there's not much around me. I'm in Canada and live approximately 3 hours away from Toronto (which is where I am finding the most opportunity from a Canadian perspective, obviously). I am planning a weekend in Toronto end of October so I am going to keep my eyes pealed for networking opportunities that might be happening then.

Is there no other way to see your stuff than an IG acct? At the moment yes - at some point I’m hoping to incorporate a blog but thought I’d get IG going well and pick up a following before I officially launch a blog.
