I figured I would start a new monthly thread. I can't believe it's August already!! Wow the year is going by fast.
New parent achievement unlocked-
Emi puked today for the first time.
We kept her home today it looks like she has a cold and suddenly while eating lunch it happened. She has been fine since, minus the coughing and mucus. I am keeping her home again tomorrow.

I’m back home after a week out of state visiting family. It might be weird but I went on an adventure to three different cemeteries to find 14 ancestors and get photos of their headstones for my genealogy records. I found my Greatx4 Grandmother! And we got to introduce dd to my great grandma, who she is named after. We cleaned up some of the really old ones that were being covered in moss and ds put wildflowers on them.
There were a couple fun spooky occurrences. On the genealogy sites you can put in a request for headstone photos. I saw two requests for the first really big and old cemetery so I jotted them down thinking I’d do a favor for someone else doing research. I picked a random direction and stumbled upon my family plot within two minutes even though most of them were mossy and hard to read before cleaning. It was my Greatx4 Grandma’s, the matriarch, who I spotted. Almost like I was drawn there. I went to a different section for the requested photos but I could find their headstones! In fact, at every cemetery I found my relatives incredibly quick despite the sections being large. I was surprised and didn’t even think I’d be able to find all 14!
My great grandparents were at the second place so my dad had been there before but we searched out some other relatives first and then it sprinkled a bit so we ran back to the car for snacks and then we went to my greats to introduce dd etc. As we turned around to leave a train went by sounding it’s horn. My great grandpa was a steam train engineer! He’s actually mentioned in some books since he did some important train runs back in the day. We didn’t hear the train the entire time we were there. Due to the crazy timing of everything my dad is convinced it was his grandpa saying hello. I’m enjoying these spooky little coincidences in addition to the family history I gathered!

Lakes, That's so cool! I'm all about spooky coincidences so take them and run with them. Lol peaseblossom55, Oh man. That is one event I hate. DS1 came into my room in the middle of the night once telling me his stomach hurt. I barely had my eyes open before he threw up all over my arm and bed. It was the nastiest thing ever and like, poop brown. I got myself and him cleaned up but made H take care of the rest.

We had Bs EI evaluation on Friday. He ranked beyond the “advanced” score for gross/fine motor, and was *just* borderline for communication. He essentially would have scored out because his Receptive score was pretty high, it’s just his verbal one that was low... but because the girl knew I kinda preferred him to have the EI support (cuz why not, right?) she applied a more strict assessment on his numbers and got him qualified.
She’s confident that he’s ripe for a verbal explosion and has good foundations, he could just benefit from a little boost in the right direction.
Overall I feel pretty good about things!

I’m glad to hear that the scores all looked good but that B will still get some extra support @ellasmom! So cool that you got to track down some family history Lakes. Puking kids is the worst peaseblossom55. DS hardly gets sick but he’s had 3 stomach bugs in 3 years and every time it’s so miserable.

So the past two days twice each day Emi went to the bathroom asked to sit on the potty and said pee pee on the potty. We only sat her on the toilet with clothes on she would get off after a minute and say “yay”! This weekend I may get a small potty seat for her not to pressure her to star potty training but so she can sit and try if she wants. I don’t know.

I think this is about the age that DS started noticing the potty and she might be seeing kids at school using it. It really snuck up on me with him too! I don’t see any harm in letting her see what she thinks but I know the book we followed discouraged casual potty introduction I think bc they don’t want kids to think it’s a toy. We had one around for DS to get used to before we jumped into really training and just didn’t let him use it as a toy.

Just dropped M off for her first day in the toddler class at daycare. They move the kids (and teachers) up once based on their school year groups so DS moved up to preschool today. I’m feeling like they’re extra grown up today. Here’s their first day today and their first day last year. Poof

There are definitely kids at school using it.

Oh, well HERE you all are! LOL. Lakes, I LOVE creepy/spooky conincidences like that! peaseblossom55, sometime they puke out all the post-nasal-drip from having sniffles. DId I tell you about the time that the day after we came home from the hospital with DD2, we got DD1 set up on the couch with a boppy so that she could hold her baby sister for the first time. As I was handing her off...DD1 barfed all over the place. So gross. Vomit is so, so, so, gross. It gets better when you/they can anticipate and get to the toilet or a bucket! carrots, did you go with the Oh Crap method for your older kiddo?

Everyone keeps pressuring me to get started potty training W so that we won't have two kids in diapers. Like, I think he's definitely showing signs that we could try starting, but.... I'm just feeling lazy.

I'm just feeling lazy. How far apart will they be? Mine are 21 months apart so I had two in diapers for a little over a year. Pros and cons but overall I liked it because I didn’t have to worry about getting the toddler to a potty if I was busy with the baby or if I was out and about lugging everyone around.

thelittleredm having 2 in diapers (mine are 18 months apart) was way easier than having one in diapers and one potty training. The two months of potty training were so frustrating to me that I think I’m going to wait until way later to even try with M. With DS we started when he was 27 months old. I wouldn’t stress yourself about it if you’re not up for it right now. Toddler diapers don’t really bother me that much since it’s not like you’re changing them alllll the time and it’s easy enough to carry a diaper with you if you’re already going to be using a diaper bag. With M I’m mostly looking at it as an excuse to keep her wearing rompers next summer. Last baby WILL stay a baby!

Ug carrots. I don’t even want to think about potty training again. It has to be easier with the second right? Since they see the older one going and dd always wants to copy ds with everything else so fingers crossed!

At this point potty training DS is still too fresh in my mind to consider going through it again. They say girls are easier but M is SO much more stubborn than DS! She’s started trying to climb into her crib so I think we might be on borrowed time there. She’s definitely determined to catch up to DS.

It’s slightly cooler here, therefore vaguely fall like and I’ve got the pre-school countdown going and the kids are outgrowing their summer clothes. Needless to say, I am super excited to transition into their fall wardrobes.
We have the rescheduled family photo on Sunday that sil is treating like her second wedding. I’m just putting the kids on their Easter outfits which is breaking her color scheme rules because dd’s dress is an emerald green but I’m not buying them new clothes for it. As much as I want it over, I wish it could be postponed until the fall for my own wardrobe purposes. I’m not 100% in love with any of my dress options. I like them, but I don’t love them for the photoshoot.

Lakes I always run into summer vs fall wardrobe issues for family pictures. We usually try to do them in October and it will randomly be 85 degrees but I’m still trying to force my family into flannel. Life in the south is tricky haha. But I still remember the Easter dress you had for your daughter and it was gorgeous and should definitely be in family pictures! peaseblossom55 glad you’re having a good vacation! We just got back from a 5 day beach trip with my two bff’s from college and their families. We had 6 adults and 6 kids in one house and DS (turned 3 in June) was the oldest. It was crazy but so much fun! M spent most of the time taking care of the youngest baby who is 2 months old and melting my heart. H did not think it was cute enough to revisit the 3rd baby discussion though 🙄

Vacation is exhausting E is having the time of her life! She loves the beach and water and rides. However she isn’t sleeping well and super clingy especially to H. She hates sleeping in her pack and play I don’t blame her it’s so uncomfortable. We are leaving early tomorrow morning.

Ah in almost 2 months E will be 2. I am debating several ideas. I want to do something for her something small by still deciding. Anyone care to give input?
A my least favorite option- doing a party at a bounce place or gym with her class. I don’t know most of the kids and I think it will be quite a bit of money. It makes easy though with who to invite.
B have a party the same place we did last year just have a quarter of the guest list we did no entertainment and a much smaller food list. It makes it easy in terms of set up and clean up still might be expensive.
C just have something at our house small probably only family and a friend or two. Problem is my sister and Fil are allergic to cats. Do I just say oh well this is what we are doing. We would need to either cook or get it catered and rent some tables/chairs. So we have enough places for everyone to sit. We would need to do a lot of deep cleaning too. If it’s nice out we could host outside bbq but end of October is so dicey.
Any other suggestions? I also need to gather a guest list so help me decide as well.
