This version is much darker with scenes of abuse and PTSD so I would not let a young child watch. When the time comes I will let my kids watch the original because I think it is better.
A five year old may enjoy Avonlea more then Anne at this age.

Definitely not appropriate for a 5yo. I'd stick with the older movies. I really liked them when I was elementary school aged. Or maybe it was the PBS series. Not sure.

I know I'm more conservative than most with TV watching, but I really love Common Sense Media. They recommend ages 10+
