Good luck! I am a bit of an expert with Hydrocephalus and shunts (my daughter has had 5 shunt surgeries in her 3 years). Spina Bifida I don't know much about. I do know that it is common to have it in conjunction with Hydrocephalus. There is a local family here whose daughter has both. They reached out to us after we got Sierra's diagnosis. She recently graduated high school with honors. She's incredibly smart and her struggles are mostly physical. She gets around using 2 cane/crutch things (I don't know what they are called).

I will be praying for you! How old is the boy?
Do you know any other details about them? I am just curious- did they come to the states specifically so she could get medical care for her son? It must be an incredibly difficult situation for her.

Well that is heart breaking on so many levels. That poor mother. And son. And country. Jesus. I hope he finds a wonderful family, no matter who she chooses. Although, having a special needs child yourself, probably makes you a good option for her. She'll know you will be a great advocate for him to get everything he needs. Now I'm crying at my desk..
But also, WOW. You could have a new born baby in less than a month! That is so exciting!

Wow, what a sad situation for the birth mother. I can't imagine everything she is going through. I'll be praying for her, her baby boy, and your family while you wait to hear about placement.

@jananigans TLC did a special on Hydrocephalus about a year ago. A friend of mine and her daughter were featured in it. It also does a section on kids in third world countries. It's very interesting if you want to check it out. Unfortunately you have to pay to watch it. I think it's like $1.99 or something. I will include the link in case your interested as it could give you some good info about life with a shunt. But don't feel like you have to watch it. I recorded it a year ago and have it on my DVR still.

@jananigans I'm so sorry. For what it's worth you're right, both the baby and your family deserve what's best for them.

I'm sorry @jananigans, I hope there's an adoption situation right around the corner that's just meant to be for you.

@jananigans my sister tried adoption as well and it's a totally messes with your mind. Something will come you just got to be patient. Your adopting within the US or internationally?

I'm a fixer. I want to brain storm ideas but I don't want to be "that person" when I know you've probably tried anything and everything. I'm just so sorry. I hope it happens soon and is the perfect situation for you all and the child.

It's not dumb. You felt connected to the baby and their situation. But it is in no way your fault.

I'm sorry, @jananigans. You can't blame yourself for that. I'm thinking of that poor baby and family.
