Ok, I know this varies wildly based on location, experience, etc., but here's the situation:
How much would you pay 2 16-year old girls to watch 5 boys ages 18mo, 2yrs, 4yrs, 6yrs, and 8 yrs from 5-10pm in a low cost of living area? My sister's kid is the 18 mo. old--what portion of babysitter cost would be appropriate for her to pay?

I think since there are two of them, $10 per hour each would be reasonable, so $50 each? I guess it would depend on the going rate in the area. Usually when I share a babysitter, we split evenly according to how many kids there are. So she would pay for 1/5, so $20.

I've been told in my area, $15-20 for 2-3 kids is normal. No idea about splitting costs, though.

Hmm maybe $10-12/hour each?
I have paid $15/hour for one 18 m/o but the babysitter was an adult, experienced childcare provider, and didn't have help.

Have you used either of these sitters before? My first thought was the same as Dramaphile's, like $10 an hour for a lcol area. If you just had one sitter I'd say 20-25 per hour so 10 seems like a reasonable number, if they negotiate to 12 that's fair too.

I would think 1/5 for your sister's share. Maybe 1/4 since an 18mo is a little more work with diapers and feeding and general monitoring than the older boys will be.

Sorry to post and run! I haven't used them for sitting. They're girls that come to the youth group I lead. They'd do it for free, so they definitely won't try to negotiate. When I asked they just shrugged and said I didn't have to pay them anything, lol. I was thinking $10ish each/hour, so maybe I'll go with that.
I also think my sis should only be responsible for 1/5, but she keeps saying since her kid is going to be more work and she's the reason we need two sitters and not just one she thinks she should pay half. I just wanted to make sure I was right in thinking she's nuts and should just pay 1/5
