We have not night/nap trained yet. I'm definitely not ready for that! I was gonna just let it happen whenever it happens. My mom judges my step-sister for not waking her otherwise-trained daughter up before adult bedtime to go in hopes that she’ll stay dry over night, but... hell no to waking my kid up at night when I finally get peace & quiet.

DD panicked the first time she pooped on the potty. Her face was priceless. I just talked her through it and she relaxed and poop has been fine.
Things I never thought I’d do... talk a kid through poop panic.

Moms of potty trained boys: do yours sit? I tried to teach mine to pee sitting but they stand at pre-school (the class is 3-5) & now he insists. It works for us but I never expected him to stop sitting at age 3. Amazingly he has better aim standing than sitting....

Which method did you use? Some friends recommended the 3 day Potty Training ebook by Lora Jensen, but I've heard there's the Oh Crap method, too? I have no idea how they are different. We loosely did the Lora Jensen method. I should caveat this by saying my kid went through a spell of just having the worst diaper rashes you've ever seen - we tried every cream, switching wipes, diapers, wound up at a dermatologist, and basically ended up at "it'll get better when he potty trains." So since he wasn't ready at the time, we basically let him run around naked waist-down a lot of times when he was home - encouraging potty, since he understood the concept, but at least we were able to prevent a lot of accidents that way. This was probably right after he turned 2,and we were able to keep the rash at bay between diaper-free time a bit every day, prescription cream, and new diapers. Finally, he seemed more and more ready by this spring, a few months shy of 3 years. So since we had the whole rash saga, we still had going to the potty as a part of his nap/bed routine, and he knew the concept, and was encouraged to use it, he just didn't want to. So we basically told him that at x date, we were saying bye-bye to diapers, and he was going to wear undies. And he also got the Paw Patrol Sea Patroller as a "big boy" toy as part of the deal. He went with it, and was able to do really well just switching to undies, but I'm not sure if all the diaper free time that had come before helped, which I think that's part of the "Oh Crap" method, though I never really read that, since my friends raved about the Lora Jensen one. Also, she insists that you have to night train AND day train at the same time. This was in the middle of us doing our FET/the first hellish part of first tri, and I said a big "no thank you" to waking to take a toddler that otherwise slept through the night to the bathroom or changing wet sheets. It didn't matter for my DS, he still wears pull-ups to bed, even though he wakes up dry most mornings, I'm in no hurry to mess up our nights - I'm trying to sleep while I can. He's been totally ok with the concept of in the day he uses the potty/at night he wears pull-ups. Yeah the night training thing seems like it would be too much. She ends up in bed with me most nights at like 3am and I do not want to deal with pee in my bed at this point, and we would need to work on cutting out her bedtime cup of milk, which she will probably fight pretty hard. So that one may be saved for a post-baby attempt. She's super interested in undies, and the "be a big girl like Sammy (my BFF's almost 5 year old)" worked well for the sleep training we just did, so I'm hoping the motivation will work for her again.

So how do you know they're ready? I have no interest in pushing potty training with DD until she is, but not sure what I should be looking for. She doesn't currently go to Daycare, will be starting 2 part time days a week next month. She goes in to the bathroom with me every time I go and I ask her if she needs to pee and wants to try the potty and she says no, but still accompanies me. One time like 2 months ago she said she wanted to pee in the potty and sat on it, but nothing happened and she has refused since. She turned 2 last month.

charlotte DS1 sat to pee when he first started going, but learned how to stand at daycare. He’s 7 and honestly still can’t aim well so it drives me nuts. My DD turned 3 in May and is just not ready for potty training. We have tried every method and bribe. She’s supposed to start dance in 2 weeks and school in 4 weeks and cannot unless she’s PTd. I need her to be in preschool for my own sanity so we need do figure this out quickly. DS1 was so much easier thanks to daycare. I’m paying for that now!

Diordra I frankly don't know what signs of readiness might be reliable. I wanted DS to be verbal enough to understand what I was talking about and communicate back to me about the potty. That was it for us, though I wasn't really interested in starting before two. He'd never used it or been offered a potty in his life before we started, though he'd seen friends (and us) do it.

Talked to my Dr office today and I am now on pelvic rest until a follow up ultrasound in a month. Hoping the marginal placenta previa goes away!
I'm sad about not doing my body pump classes right now. H is devastated about no sex. 😂

DiordraFirst I recommend getting the book "Oh Crap Potty Training". I found it to be a good read and super helpful. I have even gone back to different sections as we are two weeks into potty training. (my son will be 3 in November) My son had no real interest in potty training but I decided now was the time. We did two days of naked and then moved to underwear. Although I fully expect us to have lots more issues he has done so well overall. He really had/has very few accidents and picked up on holding it very quickly. (Even holds in the pool) Poop is still scaring him some but today he ran to me And told me he had to go, and he did on the potty. The bigger hurdle we had was really my fear about the whole thing. I talked myself out of it so many times.

Two weeks in and I can now kind of hug him.

We did the Oh crap potty training as well and I really liked the structure of it. Poop was a pretty big issue for us for a while - she would hold it all day and just wait to poop in her diaper during nap or bedtime. She was terrified to poop in the potty, saying it was "too big." poor thing. We found the proper bribe (candy and ice cream didn't work, but getting screen time for her favorite videos did) and now she poops like a champ. We still haven't tackled night training. I had every intention of doing it this summer well before the baby comes, but I just really don't want to wake a sleeping kid. Maybe in a few weeks...

C tends to poops after nap or in the morning before I get him also. He did that prior to potty training though so kind of on the same track. He does tell me he needs new underwear so at least he is aware of it. Zero plans for us to night train. No way am I waking that boy at night to pee. Nope!

I know she wants to be a "big girl" but she also a HEAVY sleeper so I have no idea how night training will go even if we try.

We still have to use sposie pads in his night diapers, sometimes he will still leak. The boy pees a ton. I don’t think we will even approach the night stuff for another year or so. I guess being out of a crib will have to happen first. Lol

letsgetphysio and expatmama11 This is where we are right now too. He poops in his night diaper, which he didn't used to. I know he's trying, and we're early on in the process (day 5) so I'm in wait and see mode. DNW to wake a sleeping kid. I may do night training when I am down to two or three times a night with the baby--I'll just add harassing DS1 to the schedule. ETA: he's also still in the crib...

I also do not get him when he first wakes up in the morning so I cannot really blame him for not holding his poop. He knows once his clock goes off at 715 I will get him but he tends to wake up around 640. A lot of time to himself to poop. I’m totally okay with the poop in diaper right now.

Sometimes he wants to stand, apparently a couple boys at day care stand? And he's seen daddy stand when he's followed him into the bathroom. Right now I just tell him he can stand once he grows a little more, and he just sits then without argument. He hasn't made any messes while sitting, so I'm going with that as long as possible.

Thanks for the recommendations guys! I’ll pick up the O Crap Potty Training book!
Honestly I’m really hoping the two days a week at daycare will do it for us, lol

We didn’t really night train. We just cut back on milk and she started waking up dry. She had a few accidents but not enough to revert back to pull-ups. She’s a light sleeper so she had no issues popping out of bed and announcing, “I gotta go!” Thankfully we seem to be beyond the need to get up MOTN to pee. She has a super bladder now where I have to force her to pee in the morning. You’re making me hurt for you, kid. GO PEE.
We also had to cut pull-ups cold turkey. She knew that she could go to the bathroom in them. So, they just had to go. Daycare had a slight anxiety attack, but I was right. They had to go. They were the last hurdle.

DS2 is going to be ready to PT soon but he is still in the little toddler class at school despite being 2 years old this month. He is showing signs of readiness but I won’t start trying to sit him on the potty until he moves into a room where DC will do PTing too.
Unfortunately that is a whole other problem because he probably won’t be moved up any time soon since he is the size of a 12 month old and isn’t growing. He stopped growing (much) when he was 9months old. He was 28 inches at 9mos and he is now barely 31 inches at 2 years old. He has a test in 2 weeks where he has to spend part of a day at the children’s hospital here in the day treatment room for a lengthy test where he will have an IV. Other kids will be in and out of the room too getting chemo treatments. Pregnant me is really worried that I will be sobbing the entire time we are there which would be really embarrassing.

I’m jealous of all of you with potty trained or ready to potty train kids. My soon to be 3 year old DS has no interest and still freaks out if we even mention the potty. I’ve tried everything.

Goodness I got so behind! Glad I’m able to read through all the potty training posts! B is almost 3, and I think I’m just trying to take things slow at this point. I don’t want him turned off to the idea. We did every hour yesterday and it went well, but I could tell he was tiring of it. Today we went first thing in the morning, a few times during the day, and I’ll have him go once more at bedtime.
We have been teaching him sitting down on a training potty, but today we practiced standing up twice with the big potty. He thinks the splashing sound it makes is funny.

I’m pretty sure this sweet boy is in a transverse position. I thought he’d be head up or down because of his equilibrium by now. I’m only 26 weeks.. does anyone know how soon he needs to be head down?
