Holy moly, we're halfway through the year! How is everyone doing? What's new with the little ones? Anytime A falls down or knocks into something, she looks around and whines "okay! okay!" and she keeps saying "okay" until someone acknowledges her asking "Are you okay?" Only then will she respond with her final "okay."
We're heading out on vacation this Saturday. A week in a big beach house with 4 families and lotsa kids. Then a week with at my FIL's house. All in NC.

Hi friends! Checking in after a week at the beach with my ILs. DS had a stomach bug that ended with an ear infection and M had an ear infection too so the first half of the trip was the opposite of relaxing. Thankfully everyone is on the mend and we made it home to celebrate DS’s 3rd birthday yesterday. I can’t believe M is almost 18 months - DS was 18 months when M was born!
M is talking a bit more and DS gets so excited whenever she says a new word. My favorite is her “more” which involves 2 syllables and is always said as a question. She’s killing it on the cute factor lately! Unfortunately still biting at daycare - I’m a little nervous since today is her first day there after a week. She learned the word “no” last week so maybe she’ll start using that instead of biting 😬🤷🏻♀️

So much beach fun! ☀️🏖☀️
I’m on day 4 of the beach. I’m headed home tomorrow. Mh was here this weekend but now it’s just my inlaws. Today was the best beach day. Clear water, breeze off the ocean, lots of sunshine...only the older kid. Ds is a blast on the beach this year.

That is so cute judyblume14! When B falls over he keeps repeating "uuuuh ooooh". It's so funny. Have a fun time in NC! Glad every one is on the mend carrots. Sorry they were sick! Happy bday to your 3 yr old. B learned the word "shoes" the other day. It's his favorite. He will bring everyone their shoes and insist we put them on. After everyone has shoes on he goes to the front door and won't leave. He knows that you need shoes to go outside lol. Other than "shoes", he probably has like 5 other words. He can parrot some words/sounds back to us, but I wouldn't say they're in his vocabulary. I'm still waiting for the explosion to come...preferably before his 18 month appointment next week. C'mon buddy - I know you have it in you!

ellabee we are in a similar boat vocabulary wise. I actually think he may have lost a couple words. No is his absolute favorite and sometimes the only word he says all day. I'm trying so hard not to compare and worry and so hoping for an explosion of language.

He had a few words he used a couple of times but then lost them. “No” is his most frequent word as well. I know at his 18 month checkup the pedi is going to ask me if I feel he should start Early Intervention and I just...I don’t know. ::sigh::

E lost some words too right before she turned 18 months it had me worried a bit.
E loves to say ta-da! Now and present something to us or when she finds a toy. I’ve been trying to get her to say I love you work weeks and she won’t say it. Yesterday morning I was getting breakfast ready the cats were being annoying I said shut up cats of course she repeats shut up cats and she did all day yesterday. Luckily I didn’t hear her say it this morning so I hope she didn’t say it at daycare. She could have repeated much worse but still.
I have off Wednesday but no other days this week. Our vacation isn’t until the end of August.

There is a poster on the General board that’s from MA and she started a thread a while back on EI and speech therapy for her 2 yr old son. Its taken her a number of months to get the right help for her son through the state program and I just don’t want to feel behind the 8 ball if we do end up wanting to get him help after his 2 yr appointment. It’s this weird combination of trying to give him time, but also wanting to be proactive, ya know?

So many beach trips! We were supposed to go to one last month for a family reunion but our crusie this fall is using up all of H's paid vacation so we sent DS1 to the reunion with my ILs.
W has a few words but seems to have lost a couple in the last month or two but his pedi isn't worried. I'm glad we aren't the only ones in this boat! "Uh oh" and "wow" are his favorites right now. He talks all the time in his own language and I've noticed more and more correct sentence structure and changes in tone so maybe we'll get more words soon? Idk. He's also spent the last two weeks trying to get a molar through and it's been painful for all involved.
I never went on birth control after W because it took as long as it did to get him and DS1 took awhile to get pregnant with, too. H and I were discussing getting on it finally because of everything going on financially and with the cruise (hello, unlimited drinks!). My cycles have been all over the place in length and I thought this one was just another long one until I felt my blood sugars bottom out the other day and combined with what I thought were sinus issues and new bra issues, I took a test during my lunch break. Positive. Baby #3 due sometime next February, maybe March? No idea. Freaking out a bit and nervous. H is really excited but also spiraling as far as money is concerned.

Thank you! I'm trying really hard to be positive right now. I think I'm struggling with it because it wasn't planned. First appointment is Friday and I'm sure I'll be scheduling a dating ultrasound.

H is way more excited at this stage and talks about it constantly. I just need to get through the first ultrasound and appointment, I think l. I might go lurk on the Jan/Feb 19 board. Maybe I'll get more into it through immersion lol

Our new oven is being delivered tomorrow but boo during dinner time. Our AC has been out since Sunday afternoon no eta on repair yet. I’m so Crabby.
At one point can I start to expect E to help with clean up on toys she loves making messes but clean up not so much.

peaseblossom55 I’d start now. She might not clean it all up and might fight you a bit but she’ll get into the habit of it. I wouldn’t expect her to self initiate clean up after every activity/toy at this point but she should be able to handle a general help pick things up with guidance.

peaseblossom55, We have W help clean up his toys. Obviously, we don't expect much but we show him where toys go and and hand him toys to put away until he starts picking them up on his own. Granted, I think it helps that he has DS1 to watch, too. carrots, Thank you. I'm trying to do that but it isn't easy.

Thank you thelittleredmWe’re hit or miss on it with M. Some days she loves to help, other days she just gets more toys out. But I always try to make a point to clean up toys in front of her so she sees that this is something we do every day. With DS I was lazy and would do all the picking up after he was in bed and out of my way and he is still the worst about doing any picking up.

B had his 18m visit today. He’s 28lbs and 33.75”. We talked about his language development and after the pedi saw how he interacts and communicates, she was inclined to give him a bit more time before going to EI. I thought that was fine, I just said I didn’t want to get to the 2 yr visit and feel behind the 8ball if we want to get him help. I heard it could take a month or two to get an evaluation and they age out at 3 yrs anyway.
Long story short, in a serendipitous moment, the EI specialist was at my daycare this morning seeing another kid. The director introduced me and now I have an appointment next Friday to do intake for an evaluation. The EI girl said she was meeting with the speech pathologist today so she’d tack on a meeting with her as well.
At the end of the day, I feel good about just getting him evaluated. Maybe it ends up he doesn’t need help, but at least I won’t be as anxious about it.

That’s great that you can get an evaluation so soon and not have the stress hanging over you ellabee! I’m sure it will be stressful waiting for results but hopefully will give you some peace of mind or a plan of action. I was looking at our pediatricians 18 month questionnaire (M’s appt isn’t until August bc of vaccine spacing) and they ask if the kid has 6-10 words. Is this around what your pediatrician was looking for or have people heard different guidelines? I’ve been trying to be more aware of where M is right now leading up to her next appt.
