How old is your LO? 11 days old
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Just nursing
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? Any tips on how to nurse in public while still regulating supply? DD likes to pull off the boob a lot (I think my letdown is too much for her-was with DD1 as well). Plus the leaking-I have to use a burp cloth to soak up the excess that ends up coming out or I’ll end up with a HUGE wet spot on my clothes.
Questions/AW? DD only nurses for 5-7 min on one side each feeding. She’s got plenty of wet diapers and she was up 3 oz from birth weight 5 days later so I know she’s getting enough, but it’s not helping my anxiety.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kids? We’re taking both girls to the beach next summer and I’m so looking forward to taking DD2 (DD1 has been before when she was about a year old). This is the beach we would go to every summer when we lived in the northeast.

How old is your LO? 2 1/2 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing with a little bit of pumping still
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I just have major anxiety about nursing in public. I'm a very private type of person, and even letting the nurses at the hospital help me with breastfeeding made me feel squirmy.
Questions/AW? Sometimes when I feed him, I get a shooting/stabbing pain down the inside of my breast. It happens to both breasts. He's got a good latch from what I can see? It doesn't happen every time, and Dr. Google isn't helpful. Any ideas?
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Hrmmm, so much. Going to Disney (my parents are already planning lol), apple picking in the fall, sugar bush in the spring, sledding in the winter, swimming in the summer.

I stressed and was very adamant about him eating every 2-3 hours and set my alarm during the night to make sure he got up to eat because I didn’t think he was getting enough. I brought it up to the doctor at his 1 month appt and come to find out, he gained 3 lbs in that first month so she wasn’t concerned. I’ve relaxed a bit now. Just make sure to watch for plenty of wet/dirty diapers and most health departments will let you bring baby in for a weight check if you’re worried.

How old is your LO? 3 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. Occasional pumping
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I’m pretty sure I flashed some high schoolers at church when LO was about 1.5 months. My letdown choked him up and he pulled off. Oh well.
I’m less concerned about nursing in public with this second baby. Baby #1, I was nervous someone would say something or stare or whatever. I apparently don’t care this time. (I’ve never had anyone say anything or stare, for the record.)
Questions/AW? Baby took a bottle!! ....from me. Which doesn’t help if the point is to feed him when I’m away. It’s a start though.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Disney. DH has already started planning for next year.

kookie3631 re: NIP I like to tuck a burp rag (preferably a prefold cloth diaper) into my bra when I pull it down. Then it’s catching any leakage and I can flip it up to cover my breast when LO pulls off. Alternatively or in addition you can lay a burp rag over the top of your breast (I kinda angle it across my collarbone and down across my breast) and then I can pull it over my nipple (and tuck underneath my breast if needed) for the spraying milk. Also for unexpected pull offs I often find it most expedient to cover my nipple with my hand. Then I know I’m covered in the seconds it takes to rearrange my clothes or whatever.

I'm a very private type of person, and even letting the nurses at the hospital help me with breastfeeding made me feel squirmy. F is still really little and NIP will be frustrating because he doesn't automatically latch on without your guidance. When my son got better at getting himself on there, I felt much more secure. Just give it a little more time. You're both learning.

How old is your LO? 2 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping due to issues with weight gain. His latch is not the greatest due to being small but it’s definitely getting better. I am hoping that after his weight check tomorrow, I’ll be able to stop pumping and just nurse. FX!!!
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I haven’t really left the house much so NIP is not an issue now. Nursing among family/friends is the most that’s happening right now.
Questions/AW? I had to introduce a bottle last week due to poor weight gain. I am just praying this doesn’t ruin BF.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Annual trips to the beach are my favorite childhood memory. We won’t make it this year since DS2 is so small but look forward to going again next year.

RE: NIP, I like this cover for being able to peek down the front and see what was happening, while staying covered no matter what DD does. It has a stiff hoop-tape piece in the center of the band running along the top. Surprisingly she still puts up with it, and it was helpful for encouraging naps on our flights last week. MauLoaM0M as long as you’re using paced feeding techniques for the bottle, you’ll most likely avoid bottle flow preference. FX you get the okay for just nursing!

How old is your LO? - 2.5 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? - nursing
How’s it going? - it’s going well. He’s mostly in the bassinet at night but we bedshare when I need to. Can’t wait til he’s less floppy and can nurse in the baby carrier.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? - I nursed DS1 for almost 3 years so I have a lot of practice NIP. This LO still pulls off for overactive letdown which is a bit of a mess but we make it through.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? - extended family beach trips. I grew up going to the beach with my mom’s side of the family every year, and now we go with DH’s family.

I have to tell my fav NIP story from DS1. He was 11mo and we were on an early morning flight in a very small airplane. We were in an aisle seat & a guy in his very early 20s was in the window seat. He and DS1 were talking and playing and having a good time.
DS1 gets sleepy and signs for milk.
Guy exclaims “cool! Just like Meet the Fockers, he’s signing for boob!”
Then he realizes what he just said. Then he realizes what I’m about to do. His face was priceless & he just turned and stared out the window 😂

How old is your LO? 7 weeks Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Mostly nursing and occasionally pumping. Going well 0-3 moNursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I don’t like NIP but I use this if I have to. I love the little cocoon it creates and privacy. DS2 was having a tough time latching and we had to wean off of the shield so this was perfect. When it was chilly, I could tuck in DS2 so that he could be cozy and on hot days, I can move the fabric to create privacy where I need it. Questions/AW? I don’t know if this warrants it’s own thread but when (if at all) do I pull DS off if he’s finished and dozing but still getting comfort? Do I pop him off and put in a pacifier? (DS1 essentially used me as a human pacifier and I don’t want to start more bad habits). When do you stop feeding for all MOTN wakeups? DS1 was a horrible sleeper so I had constantly nurse him back to sleep (nothing else worked). I’ve put this guy back in his crib occasionally without feeding if he was falling asleep on the changing table MOTN but this is new territory for me as I never had the option with DS1. Again, I don’t want to create bad habits with DS2 if he doesn’t need to eat with every wakeup. It might be too early for these questions but given what I went through with DS1 and being that DS2 seems to be a “traditional” baby, I don’t want to let what became the norm with DS1 become the norm with 2. GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Beach time

kiri whether to comfort nurse or try the paci is up to you at this point. As far as night feeds, I personally wouldn’t worry about trying any other soothing but the breast until at least 3 months. Night feeds are important nutritionally and for your supply unless baby is naturally sleeping long stretches. But if he falls back asleep after just a diaper change, well, guess he wasn’t hungry!

How old is your LO? 7 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and should start actually pumping to build a stash. I don't go back to work until October but know that time will fly by.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? DD is my second so NIP isn't as intimidating as it was the first time. I still try to never have to do it especially with a toddler around but have done it more times than I can count already.
Questions/AW? She still screams/cries/fusses a lot before she poops. Is this normal? I don't remember.
We also really need to introduce the bottle. She's been more tolerant of taking a pacifier so FX she doesn't fight a bottle.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Vacations in general. We go to the beach every year with H's family and we'll probably start our own separate vacations next year. My family never had money to go anywhere so I'm excited to give them experiences I never had.

How old is your LO? 9mo
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping. So much better lately.
9-12mo What is something BF related you worried about when pregnant or with a newborn that turned out fine? Building a stash of milk. I've always pumped exactly what he needs, maybe a tiny bit more. I don't know why I thought I'd need a freezer full of milk.
Questions/AW? TTMA night weaning. DS started STTN back in May, but then caught HFM and we're back to 1-2 wakeups and nursing each time. We didn't purposely night wean then; it just happened. But I'd really like that sleep back.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? We've recently started going back to my uncle's lake house, which we did lots when I was little. DS loves the boat and the water. I'd like to continue that with him.

Another question for those who pump(ed). How much milk did your 10mo take during the day? DS has been slowing down, as I suspect is normal, but this week it's been a huge drop. Just curious if we should back off solids a bit to make sure he's getting enough milk first.

How old is your LO? He will be 9 months next week.
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing.
0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? I got much more comfortable nursing in public after the newborn age, though it probably would have been slightly easier than nursing in public is now with a very distracted infant.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? If you haven’t, how do you feel about introducing?
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? We've started solids. Ds2 loves all of the fruits and is iffy on most veggies. He's not quite ready for baby led weaning but as soon as he figures out the pincer grasp I think we are golden. I SAH.
9-12mo What is something BF related you worried about when pregnant or with a newborn that turned out fine? I'm still worried about teeth but he's only bit me once so far (but he's only got two teeth haha!).
Questions/AW? Ds1 was very sad the other day when I told him that he wouldn't be able to feed a baby like mommy. He was pretending to breastfeed his doll. It was so sweet.
GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? Probably playing out in the woods together. My brother and I spent a lot of time playing pretend in the woods by our house growing up. I have to be more careful about poison ivy and snakes where we live now though lol.

gingy I still have milk in the freezer that I will likely never use. It came in handy when I had a destination wedding to attend but now it's just sitting there! kiri ds2 still gets up 1-2 times at night. I always offer boob. Around 5-6 months, I stopped nursing him to sleep and would gently wake him if he fell asleep. And would then burp him and put him in his crib slightly awake but very sleepy. Now he goes to bed awake but sleepy and pops off when he's ready for a burp/bed. He's almost 9 months old.

jessila ds2 went through a phase of getting fussy before poops I want to say around the age of your LO. Definitely bring it up to your pediatrician if it continues or she seems to be really struggling. I'm assuming the poops are normal in consistency/color but I'd keep an eye on that too.

gingy the only thing that worked for night weaning for us was a modified CIO. I set a time (at first I think it was 1am), ignored all crying before that time unless it lasted for more than 15-20 minutes, and after 2-3 nights she went from 3-4 wakeups to 1. The next time I wanted to drop a night feeding, I just changed my set time (I think to 4 or 5am). In terms of BM at daycare, I think at 10 mo she was still taking 16oz, which worked out to 1.5 oz per hour separated. Around 12 mo I think I cut her back to 12oz total.

gingy at 10 months my DS1 only took 3 3oz bottles at daycare so 9 oz total. For night weaning we did the PLS method of decreasing the amount of time nursing by 1 minute each night until it was 2-3 minutes and then just doing cio for that feed.

How old is your LO? 1 weekAre you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? nursing exclusively. DS3 has been pretty sleepy so far. i don't remember DS2 being this sleepy, although he was born a week later gestationally. he sleeps for hours, then cluster nurses. i guess it's par for the course for a newborn.0-3 mo Nursing in public: questions, experiences, anecdotes? already NIP yesterday- had LO in a ring sling and tied a lightweight swaddling blanket around my neck.Questions/AW? nothing right now.GTKY: what’s a childhood memory or experience you’re looking forward to sharing with your kid(s)? we've done a lot of stuff with the bigger kids already... i would like to attempt more trips away, even if it's just long weekends. we took the kids up to vermont last summer for our first real family vacation and it was a lot of fun. tiring, but fun.kiri we're pretty crunchy but i didn't try to night-wean at all until 1 year. i worked f/t with both kids, though, so a)it was the easiest way to get them back to sleep, b) it kept my supply up, and c) i wanted to make sure they were getting all the nutrition they needed. your LO is so little, though, i definitely wouldn't try to limit feeds at all for at least another couple of months. gingy, i'd just go with it, honestly. neither of my kids ever took more than about 12-14 oz over the course of a workday. by 10 months with both i think i was only pumping 2x per day and sending about 8-10 oz. if you're pumping way more than LO is taking, i'd eliminate a pumping session since you're getting close to 1 year. i always nursed on demand at home, so i didn't sweat their daycare intake too much once they were taking in solids, too.

Nursing and a morning pump.
LO is 10 weeks old. Had her lip and tongue tie revised via laser at 7.5 weeks and now refuses a bottle. I’m becoming very nervous bc I go back to work in 6 weeks!
I haven’t really had to nurse in public yet but I would likely try to go somewhere more private. I’m not very good at being discreet. Boob all over the place lol
Childhood memory would be catching fireflies. We used to do this with my cousins and it was always so much fun

I’d rather go ahead and make sure his tank is full so I have a better chance at fewer sleep interruptions.
