I was just laying here watching TV and my incision was a little itchy. I was scratching gently around it and noticed that I have a good sized lump on the right side, just above the external incision. It's probably an inch around. Normal? Or should I call the postnatal clinic?

No harm in calling just to be sure. However, on the right edge of my incision it was more raised and more tender than the other areas. When I asked my OB at the post op visit she said something about it having to do with how they stitch the various layers up.

This happened to me 4 weeks in. My Ob told me it’s from doing more activity and the tissue becomes somewhat inflamed but it’s not infected. It was quite painful one day but went down in 2 days.
Definitely don’t feel silly for getting it checked but if it doesn’t seem infected or isn’t too painful it’s pretty normal I’d say.
The general area will be a bit hard and raised for several months.

Mine was like that for several weeks. I was told it had something to do with internal stitches. I would keep an eye on it. It doesn't hurt to call but I'd be more worried if it was red and inflamed or there was any pain.

Okay, cool. I actually have an appointment at the clinic on Thursday so I'll probably just mention it then :-)
