I’m afraid some of the recommendations might get lost in randoms so perhaps we can preserve them here!

Does anyone have a video monitor in a second floor bedroom that gets a clear signal in their basement?
We have a Motorola video monitor from 2015 that works well except I don’t get signal in the basement. That’s where my office and treadmill are. DS has recently started getting out of bed on his own, plus with the new baby coming, I’d like to see if there are other options.
I have heard of monitors that work with your phone but I don’t really get it. There isn’t a constant video/audio feed running on your phone like a regular monitor, is there? And what about when you have a sitter that needs to use the monitor?

charlotte We have this Motorola from 2015. I can go out to the back yard with it. As long as the little antenna is up, I can go anywhere in the house and probably about 50 feet straight out from the house. It’s probably even further if you count where her room is to where I’m standing in the yard. Granted, my house is a small Cape Cod... but it seems to work at a decent distance from her room. The phone camera thing creeps me out. Too many stories about creepy people talking through the monitors and shit. WiFi hijacking and all that. No thank you.

charlotte I don't have one, but I believe that type of monitor has you sign in to a website or app on whatever device, so your babysitter might just need to download an app. Just a warning: any baby monitor connected to the internet is almost certainly going to be easy to hack. Which may not matter to you, as not many people are likely interested in spying on you/your child, or hijacking the talk-back feature, but it is a possibility.

charlotte, We have Arlo Camera's (security system) and use that for DD1's monitor now. It isn't constantly streaming to your phone, but you can check anytime through the app as well as have it set to alert you anytime it detects a noise or movement in the room.

Any suggestions for bottles with few parts? We have a ton of Dr. Browns, but they are a huge pain in the ass to clean. Baby will be EFF, so trying to minimize the bottle cleaning as much as possible, at least when they’re eating every few hours.

Diordra, we’re looking at those cameras too. Do you find them user friendly? I’m terrible with technology. I miss my Levana Lila camera/monitor. Such good range and a great picture, but 18 mo DS broke it.

I'm going to try them again (with new nipples) from ds1. Ds2 had to use Mam ones that had a million parts. He had a terrible bottle latch and they were the only ones he could use well (of course later we realized he had a lip tie!). Also we just threw everything in a special basket for the dishwasher. No way was I hand washing bottle parts especially when they are taking 8 bottles a day at first!

We don’t have a dishwasher. We need to buy a water softening system first. We have plans to, but are currently renovating our entire upstairs I’m jealous of all of you living that dishwasher life.

charlotte, we have a Summer video monitor that I was able to get audio/video in the basement on the elliptical while he was in his bedroom on the second floor in our decent-sized house. Not sure the model, it's from 2015, but it's relatively basic - just video, audio, and talk-back, no other features. And Dr. Cox, I second the Avent bottle recommendation - that's all we used for DS and I loved that it was just the bottle and nipple, even with living the dishwasher life. I also liked that I was able to get glass bottles, which I felt better about throwing into the dishwasher for washing day after day. We're buying new nipples and crossing everything this baby takes to them also.

Dr. Cox We used Avnet bottles with DD1 from the start and had no issues. If we EFF again we will be using the same ones but with new nipples. We had a microwave tray to sterilize them all at first and then used one of those boon trays and trees. The Arlo is really easy to use. My H installed the cameras and set it up online then we downloaded the app.

Dr. Cox I see you have a lot of suggestions but I’ll throw mine out there. We used tommee tippee with my DS and I loved how easy they were to clean. I know they make ones that are similar to dr Browns now, but if I’m not mistaken they still have some of the originals and a glass version too with none of the extra parts. They also had a great little formula dispenser for inside the bottles if that’s something you are looking for.

I liked Tomee Tippee bottles, too. But we didn’t use bottles daily so my opinion isn’t worth much 😝. I found them really easy to clean, though.

We used the Avent bottles with DS2 and they worked great.
We used Dr. Browns with DS1 8 long years ago and hated them. They are so hard to clean!! We actually wrote an angry email to them when he was about 8 months old and they sent us a bunch of free cleaning brushes and stuff. We still hated them though and will never use them again.

I really like the Playtex drop-ins. The milk basically only touches the nipple and the disposable bag; though you also wash the cap that holds the nipple in place and the bottle, it doesn't feel like you have to be as scrupulous with them.

charlotte for the video monitor on the phone. We used that for DS and it was awesome for long distance needs. I could even check in at work to see what he was up to. As far as having a constant stream, what I did was I had an older ipad that I used to keep the app constantly streaming. It worked pretty well.

We have a Vtech video monitor and it works in our basement (which is actually technically our third floor) ETA - we have this www.vtechphones.com/products/baby-monitors/video-monitor/vm321

I'm thinking about getting a Dock A Tot. We have 4 adults in our home and may actual baby holding devices so I'm not sure why I think I need it, but I do.

Speaking of vidoe monitors, we got this cheap wifi camera thing off amazon for ds1.
It works but i want a replacement for having multiple cameras and to be more secure.
I randomly had photos saved on my from from this camera and its some business lobby- looks like asian staff. Sooo creepy!!!

I don’t think this was a thing when I had DD1. Do I need one? ETA I looked it up. I kind of want one in an adult size. Not sure if I need one for the baby though.

Do I need a glider? I didnt have one for ds1 and would just rock him to sleep until we sleep trained. He seemed to need a side to side swoosh movement to fall alseep.
For the secod nursery I'm planning to do same as the first and have a single bed in there for me to sleep on at night to make feeds easier.

I love my glider and used it every night for bedtime and MOTN feeds. Traveling drove me crazy because there would be no glider to rock her in at bedtime!

mikaela20 I never had an actual glider but I do have an upholstered chair that rocks. I still use that thing for nap and bedtime songs with DS every single day! Currently trying to figure out how I can convince him to let me move it out of his room and into mine while the baby is room sharing so that I can do MOTN feedings in it.

Maybe I can find something else she likes.

mikaela20, we also have not a glider, but just a big comfy chair that rocks in DS' room now. He never would let me sit in it and rock him to sleep, I had to bounce/sway him if he was fussy, but it was nice to have for actually feeding him, and as he got bigger, he still likes to sit in it sometimes to snuggle and read stories. It also has a reclining feature, so in a pinch when he was sick, definitely wound up sleeping in it a few nights when the only way he would sleep was on me. It'll be moving to the baby's room, and we told DS he can bring his anywhere chair upstairs into his room for his own little reading nook, which he was super excited about.

We didn’t really use the glider with B. We were living with family and I didn’t like feeling cooped up. So I used a big comfy chair in the living room. Plus there was a tv.
I’m glad we still have it for L though. We have our own home again so I look forward to utilizing his room.
