We arrived two hours early and got checked in. The nurse asked me an obscene amount of questions and placed an IV at my wrist. H had a quick sandwich and some yogurt as a meager breakfast while I looked on enviously. My OB checked baby's position with an U/S since she moved around so much. When it was time they had me walk back to the OR with H. They placed the spinal which took longer, but was much less uncomfortable than my previous one with DS#2. Then my doctor suddenly requested to make a new incision a little above the old one because it was so close to my pubic bone and she was nervous about delivering the baby breech that way. She assured us that it wouldn't change anything with subsequent pregnancies, just that it would be a second scar. I told my husband I couldn't make important decisions right now and asked him if he thought it was ok. We agreed to let her, trusting that she knew what she was doing. (I'm not happy that she freaked out and asked me on the operating table- she has felt my bone every time she has measured me this pregnancy and I'm concerned we may have let her give me a second scar just because she got cold feet. We are hoping she is right and it has no other impact other than a second scar). They started the procedure and baby Abby was born. H announced it was a girl and they whisked her off. She was quiet and I was nervous because my other two came out screaming. I asked if everything was ok. They said she was, but H later said she was really purple and didn't look to be breathing right away. But, they gave her some oxygen and she started crying rather quickly. They took an awful long time with their procedures, but this time I didn't mind because all the stuff they were doing with me was so uncomfortable I was just trying to get through it. They wouldn't let me hold her because of my IVs, but they put her basically on my face and we were cheek to cheek for a long while. A was definitely looking for a boob and drooled all over my face haha. I was just so relieved to be touching her. I eventually asked if they could help me let her try to nurse because she was getting a little frustrated. They agreed and she was happier. She was the best nurser of my children. They wheeled me to my room and the nurse took two attempts to get blood and failed, called in someone else who managed it, but I later saw had blown my vein. Then they forgot to turn back on my IV and no one came to fix it for a long time so by the time the nurse got there it wasn't great. And it had a ton of air and she tried to pump it out, but was having a lot of trouble. This eventually ruined the IV. At this point I had no good options for an IV location because of all the trouble earlier getting my blood and I tearfully asked to just have it removed and if I started vomiting then so be it.
We were pretty upset with the care at this point. But after that, everything smoothed out. I tend to recover from surgery fairly easily and A is doing great and figured out nursing on the magic(for my kids at least) day 3 (day 2 sucks. hard.) She had only slightly elevated bilirubin so we were able to go home at the 48 hour mark.
