I have my 6 week checkup next week and need to decide what to do about birth control. I did the mini pill and condoms last time but am over the pill. I'm leaning towards an IUD but have never had one. Placement issues and possible weight gain worry me about getting one.
Mh is ready to schedule a vasectomy and while I would love to just be done worrying about birth control I'm just not ready for that permanent step yet.
What all are you guys doing this time around?

Ugh, I don’t even want to think about this yet. I’m not really a fan of any of the birth control options out there but definitely not ready for another pregnancy any time soon. We will probably just settle on condoms again🤷🏼♀️

I need something I don't have to remember. I want to try Paraguard because nonhormonal.

Ugggh, I don’t want to think about this. I hate hormonal BC but did like one brand of the mini pill last time before the manufacturer stopped making it. I may look into the copper IUD but I’ve heard so many IUD horror stories from friends.
Ultimately I’d like DH to get snipped, but that’s at least a year away since we don’t know if we’re done. I think we’ll be doing condoms once my period starts back up, though DH hates condoms.
I need them to keep working on a male BC pill. I’ve done my part.

I'll also probably get the copper IUD. Hormonal birth control makes me cray. I hate thinking about it so we haven't even had a conversation about it yet.
I'd like SO to get a vasectomy but know he won't do it anytime soon and I'm having second thoughts about being done. We probably won't have anymore because $$$ but we'll see.

I had the copper IUD before ttc and I loved it. But in between my two pregnancies I used a pill called Lolo and that was fine, too. We knew we wanted to ttc #2 fairly quickly so I didn't want to go through the hassle of having an IUD placed just to have it out 10 months later.
I'm still debating but I might try a hormonal iud because I hear that lots of women don't have a period with them, and the pill isn't a great long term option for me because I'm a bit forgetful with it.

We are done. He’s getting a vasectomy as soon as I can deal with him whining about his how bad it hurts. I assume recovery will be like the man flu. Until then condoms.

There are no good options, it’s unfair. I’d like another baby so won’t be doing anything permanent just yet. A copper IUD is on the maybe list, I’ve heard bad things about them though so I’m on the fence. There should be an on/off fertility button...

I have an appointment for an IUD and SO scheduled a vasectomy for June. I don’t trust the pill anymore, or rather I don’t trust myself on the pill anymore and because it takes a while to get the vasectomy, I’m doing the IUD. No. Mo. Babies.

I’ll get the copper iud ASAP and DH will get a V when DD2 is 6mos. Once we get the all clear in his V, I’ll get the IUD taken out since it causes super heavy periods for me. I had it in between DD1 and DD2 and found the heavy more manageable than the hormonal BC side effects.

I'm on the no good options team. We're done so H is going to get a vasectomy, but he's so busy with work I have no idea when that will happen. Maybe not until December.
I'll probably end up back on the pill eventually because it keeps me breakout free and regulates my cycle, but last time it made me really depressed until my horomones regulated themselves (2 years after having a baby!!). I'm not ready to risk that right now.
I hate condoms. Implants scare me.
I wonder if my H would be okay with abstinence until December hahaha.

Team no good choices here. Went off hormonal BC about 10 years ago ttc #1. Which required IVF. #2 was conceived without repro assistance, so we need something. H is not ready for V, but for age and financial reasons, we are done.
I may try the mini poll but not crazy about remembering everyday.

Yeah I feel like there is no good option either. I'm worried about the heavy periods I've heard from a few people that have gotten IUDs. I think right now I'm leaning towards the mini pill but with my PCOS I'm not sure how my periods will be. Even on the regular pill I was having a period twice a month right before I got pregnant.
Seems like a lot of SO's here will be getting vasectomies this year. Mh is planning on taking a week off from work when he gets his. He mostly just wants to stay home and use it as an excuse to play video games all day.

I know they’ve very much gone out of style, but I’m a little curious about diaphragms. Whenever I complain to my mom (which is less weird than it sounds) about not loving any of my BC options, she usually mentions having liked them and wonders if OBs even still prescribe them. I’d imagine there’s a learning curve but maybe it’s worth it once you get the hang of it?

Despite our IF, we will definitely pursue something. My endo makes me prone to ectopics and it would be dangerous to conceive again without the close supervision we had from the RE.
DH is on board with a vasectomy, so that will be our primary birth control.
I need to talk to my endo surgeon and see if there is a bc pill that he would recommend to try and manage my symptoms until I am at a point where I can have the excision surgery I was scheduled for when I got pregnant and had to cancel. Im guessing something progesterone only since I responded well to that during IF treatments.

Ugh we will use condoms and I will temp and chart to avoid when my period comes back.
I hate hormonal birth control and cannot deal so at least once my cycles are regular again I only need to use condoms for a portion of the month with temping.
We are on the fence about a third so permanent methods aren’t an option as yet. I’m not sure if H would ever want to get a vasectomy anyway, we’ve never discussed it!

I got my tubes tied when I had my csection. No more babies here...especially after how bad my pregnancy was. If I didn’t have a csection, we had talked about my H getting a vasectomy.

I didn’t just have my tubes tied I had them completely removed. If not DH was going to get the V. I was always nervous for an IUD and wasn’t awesome with the mini pull.

Nervous you'd get pregnant with an IUD in? My sister has two friends that had "IUD babies". I'm telling myself there was something wrong and I don't need to worry.

No, more I’ve heard stories of discomfort and heavy periods. There are always side effects, including from the pull, and it always made me Leary. Maybe it was as the rational.

I guess I’m the only one that dreaded this convo with my OB at my 6 week. DH and I have been together for 12 years, never used any form of BC (other than pull and pray at the beginning...) and I’ve never once had a scare. Never once been a day late. We have been actively trying to have kids for the last 7 years and have needed IVF for both of my kids plus a shit ton of immune meds to suppress my immune system - to both get and stay pregnant. At my 6 week when it came up, I kindly mentioned that we needed IVF to my OB who predictably said “well the number of times people who did IVF...” and then I mentioned the above and she kind of got quiet and then suggested condoms to which I agreed (I think we both knew I was lying). Frankly, although I don’t want to get pregnant within the next few months, if we did get pregnant naturally I think I’d cry so hard with relief and never stop. Frankly I feel ridiculous even entertaining the idea of being on birth control given my history.
I have no idea what I’d consider if we didn’t have issues - all of these options sound kind of terrible to me. When I did used to use birth control, I did the pills, which made me feel terrible. So hard no from me.

So hard no from me. I actually laughed at my ob when bc was mentioned for the same reasons as you. By some miracle we conceived dd2 on our own between medicated cycles and the. Dd3 on our first temped cycle. And ds...we always wanted 3-4 and I’m amazed it happened without more help. If you’re open to more kids and do t have medical reasons to not get pregnant then I wouldn’t worry about it. I took a pregnancy test once a month just to be sure since I need meds to stay pregnancy. Maybe that would be an alternative? My dh is getting snipped soon, but a 5th wouldn’t be the worst and I don’t know that we’ll do anything in the interim.
