Hi all,
Hope you don't mind my popping in with a question. My DD is one month old and we have been battling a persistent thrush infection. For those of you who have had it, what worked?
She had the white patch on her tongue at birth. At 2 weeks I mentioned my pain when nursing and a vaginal yeast infection to our doctor and I started a 2 week course of Diflucan for me and oral suspension Nystatin for her. At 3 weeks my symptoms were clear but her tongue was only getting worse. We started boiling all bottles/pacis etc daily and applying Nystatin ointment to my nipples but now at 4 weeks there is still no improvement.
Just to get a sense of what we are dealing with, her tongue has black spots on top of the white. It looks like moldy bread. I'm worried. 😟

Oh no! I'm sorry her tongue is still covered. Is she nursing ok? Are you having any more symptoms?
We dealt with thrush early too, DS had a suuuper thick white coating on his tongue, gums, etc. It was bad but I had no clue what it was!
His cleared up with oral nystatin I believe it was, I used it on my nipples too but I never had any symptoms at first. After his mouth cleared, then I started with the nipple pain so I did a course of diflucan. I had two more episodes like a month apart that diflucan handled and DS didn't show any more signs.
Is there a different med they can use for your DD? A different yeast med or maybe she has a little bacterial infection on top of it (I'm thinking the black spots....) and needs and antibiotic?
What a PITA, I'm so sorry. I hope she's eating ok though. Do you have another appt with her pedi?

I will definitely stay on alert even after it clears just in case of recurrence on my end. And I haven't thought about a bacterial infection too....ill ask our doctor at our appointment next week. I did email her today and she called in a script for oral Diflucan for the baby. We will see if that makes a difference.

Oh and thechickencoop to answer your question, she has been feeding okay. Her latch is a little shallow and she makes a clicking sound when she sucks, but I know she is transferring milk okay. Sometimes she is a little sloppy and it takes her a few minutes to latch but it isn't all the time, so I don't know if it's the thrush causing pain or not. Same with a bottle. Sometimes sloppy. I really hope it isn't uncomfortable for her

I hope the change in meds works! I never had it with DS1 so I was all sorts of annoyed with it, especially coming back. Good luck.
