DS is 9 weeks. I go back to work in 3 weeks so we’ve been trying to introduce the bottle with my pumped milk.
We initially tried an Avent Natural bottle (fed by H) with the newborn nipple. He did really well and took 4 oz without issue, although I wondered if the flow was too fast, so I ordered the early flow nipple, which is supposed to be the slowest. The next day H tried again (I wasn’t home) with the same nipple and he took 3 oz but H said it didn’t go as well as he first time and he was kind of fussy during the feeding. The third time he took hardly any and mostly just pushed the nipple out with his tongue or gummed it.
To further complicate matters, the nipple was leaking on the avent. We called customer service and they basically said they know the new design of the naturals leak and that we should try the classic. So I think the naturals bottles are out for now, even though the early flow nipple just came in the mail today.
I also have medela bottles, so I tried that tonight. Took 1 oz, stopped to burp, and he refused any more.
I know we haven’t tried that many times, but I just want to make sure we can have some success before I go back to work. Both H and I have tried feeding, warmed milk, positioning similar to BFing and more upright positioning, warming the nipple, timing it when he’s hungry and also as more of a snack a bit before his next feed. What else am I missing? How many times should I try a certain bottle/nipple before trying another kind?
