Let’s try something new. Moving forward I’ll post a check in thread twice a month instead of weekly. I’m expanding the age range from 0-3 to 0-12 months. Happy to include 12+ mo if that ends up working better too. Of course keep posting individual threads as you need for questions/advice/etc- as always no lurking, no intros, no previous participation required.

How old is your LO?
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going?
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you?
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing?
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going?
9-12mo Do you have a BF goal and has it changed since LO was a newborn?
Questions/concerns/AW?
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Southern Hemisphere: what are you looking forward to about cool weather?

I like this idea, thank you for starting it!
How old is your LO? 10.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping but I am pumping about half as much as I used to. He's doing well with solids and he seems happy/satisfied at home but he does get formula at daycare some days.
9-12mo Do you have a BF goal and has it changed since LO was a newborn? I don't have a specific timeline in mind for nursing but I will be very glad to stop pumping around 1 year, just long enough to transition. I enjoy nursing and will probably let him take the lead on weaning at home.
Questions/concerns/AW? Not really right now.
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Southern Hemisphere: what are you looking forward to about cool weather? Just being able to spend time outdoors with the kiddo. Hiking, biking, playgrounds, beaches! So much to do!

piratecat glad you like it! Spread the word! I know without the check ins people will stop visiting the board & then when someone comes with questions, there won’t be any help. And a check in can be less intimidating / friendlier / more supportive / building community. Also problems aren’t requisite to wanting community

How old is your LO? 11 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Going good. He's super distracted with it annoying.
9-12mo Do you have a BF goal and has it changed since LO was a newborn? My goal was to make it to a year. Almost there! 3ish weeks left.
Questions/concerns/AW? Nursing after a year will be interesting. I didn't make it that far with the girls. Uncharted territory soon.
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Southern Hemisphere: what are you looking forward to about cool weather? Sunshine!

How old is your LO? 7 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Just nursing, no pumping. Supplementing a daytime bottle a few times a week if we're out and about. Nursing on the go in the winter is much harder than I anticipated and I'm glad my supply is regulated well so that I can skip a session if I feel like it.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing?
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going?
Solids are going great. We've been doing purees and adding in some of our food when I can. He went HAM on some black beans tonight 😂
I work part time from home so I've been back for a while. It's been hard this winter because I'm pretty sure DS1 hasn't had a full week of school all winter due to snow/sickness, so...that's been frustrating.
Questions/concerns/AW? What kind of multivitamin does everyone take while bf-ing? I'm about to finish my bottle of prenatals and I noticed there's a post-natal variety? Or should I just go with a normal multi vit?
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? omg just...WARM. The other day it was like 80 and sunny and I swear I felt like I had been holding my breath all winter. And now it's 40 and shitty again so...yea.

I might come play in here, since the extended BF thread is pretty quiet. Although I'm guilty of not posting in there myself.
How old is your LO? 13 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping. Going fine, but I'd like to be done with pumping.
9-12mo Do you have a BF goal and has it changed since LO was a newborn? My goal originally was 1 year. I don't really have a revised goal for nursing as a whole, but I do have a goal of weaning off pumping by 15 months. I'm down to pumping twice a day (I was pumping 4 times a day).
Questions/concerns/AW? Have I mentioned I'm really over pumping? For some reason this morning I'm just really done with it. Mostly I'm tired of cleaning my pump parts. DD currently takes 12 oz of pumped milk at daycare, and nurses 3-4 times a day in addition. I'd like to cut back on the pumped milk, but I'm just not sure how to go about it. Kellymom says she doesn't need any cow's milk if she's nursing 3-4 times a day, but that's really the only guidance I can find.

Once my prenatals ran out, I kind of just stopped taking one. Kellymom says you don't really need one (https://kellymom.com/ages/tandem/mom-vitamins/) but there's some useful information about the vitamins you might want for yourself if you're unsure. I think a plain women's multivitamin would be fine.

moutonrouge how much was she taking before at daycare? Do they give her solids before milk? I have been wondering about this transition too and from what I’ve read going from offering milk before meals to offering meals first is the biggest change at year 1 so that they are getting more full on solids and taking less milk? I plan on talking to my pediatrician about this too at his 12 month appt. I am really really ready to be done pumping.

They said she wasn't finishing the bottles, so we dropped down to 12 in the last month. I think her daycare teachers mostly offer milk first and then water with her meal. I'm just really unsure whether or not she needs it or just drinks it because it's there.

WeI'll definitely ask them to offer milk after food. If she keeps finishing what I send then...maybe I'll reduce the lunchtime bottle first and see how that goes. We're swapping to a nanny next week, so asking her to serve food first is an easy change. But maybe it isn't great to also cut back on milk at the same time. I'm never sure with transitions if I should just change everything at the same time or if that's too much.

Yea, I would be inclined to try offering food first for a while and see if she reduces her intake on her own. It makes a lot of sense to me theoretically (well, assuming the kiddos like eating solids) - if they're offered solids on an empty stomach they'll eat more and get full and have less room for milk - but obviously I don't have experience with that yet.

How old is your LO? 6.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing at home and pumping at work. It’s going well.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? Weve done a variety of purées so far and she seems to love it. Only wants about a tbsp for now but that’s ok by me.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? I hate pumping but mostly because I have to do it on my breaks/lunch and it’s isolating. I teach so most of my day is with 10 year olds and I crave that adult conversation by 3:30pm. I also miss eating a hot lunch and am sick of lunch meat
Questions/concerns/AW? LO is at daycare from 7:00-4:00. How many ounces should she be eating? Does this change as daycare starts doing solids with her? They asked for bigger bottles but we were already doing 3 4.5oz ones and that felt like a lot.
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Taking LO on stroller walks!

Questions/concerns/AW? LO is at daycare from 7:00-4:00. How many ounces should she be eating? Does this change as daycare starts doing solids with her? They asked for bigger bottles but we were already doing 3 4.5oz ones and that felt like a lot. General rule is 1-1.5oz per hour, so for 9 hours at daycare that’s 9-13.5oz. Of course if you don’t nurse at drop off / pick up and have a long commute you should factor that in too. (This is just a range of normal so LO may be hungry for more milk, and if you’re pumping more than she’s eating, you can send in another couple oz if you want.) Other than growth spurts, BF babies take in roughly the same amount of milk from one month old until they naturally decrease in favor of solids, which varies from child to child. As I’m sure you know, AAP & WHO say breastmilk should be the main source of nutrition under a year old. Did daycare ask why they wanted more milk sent in? Baby seems hungry? Difficult to comfort? Or are they just used to increasing bottle sizes from formula fed babies? 3.5-5oz is typically the largest bottle a BF baby will take if properly pace fed. You may consider playing with the number of bottles & oz in each, if daycare needs some support in this area. For example, the usual 4.5oz bottle after a long nap, and then in the afternoon when it’s getting closer to pick up & baby doesn’t want to settle for them, two 2.25oz bottles they can give closer together if needed. kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/And if LO is having a growth spurt & you need to send in more milk, daycare *should* let you know when she’s no longer finishing that extra milk and you can scale back again. Some babies make up the extra growth spurt calories when you’re together without changing daycare intake. Just depends on the child. Hope this helps!

Some babies make up the extra growth spurt calories when you’re together without changing daycare intake. Just depends on the child. Hope this helps! I'll second all this - but also add that IME baby tends to drink everything you send to daycare. Our daycare also pushed for more milk, and for a bit I sent some extra but my supply couldn't keep up. The compromise we came to was doing 2 6oz bottles and 1 4oz bottle. She would get the 6 oz bottles at 9am and 3pm, and the 4 oz bottle at 11:30 (she would get lunch at 12, and later got a snack at 3:30). As she ate more solids, the 3pm bottle was the first one to be reduced, then the 9am bottle. The 3pm bottle is the only one she ever stopped finishing, and that didn't happen until we transitioned to a sippy cup. From 5-12 months, I would nurse her at 7am and 5:30pm, and she got 16 oz at daycare - so a little over 1.5 oz/hour.

Yay a check in!!
How old is your LO? 11 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. I maybe pump once a month for fun lol
9-12mo Do you have a BF goal and has it changed since LO was a newborn? Definitely hope to make it at least one year. That’s always my goal. Then it’s however long she wants to go. I went to 25 months with DS, but she’s not quite as boob crazy as he was.
Questions/concerns/AW?
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Southern Hemisphere: what are you looking forward to about cool weather? Splash pads and the pool for sure! One bad thing is that it gets so hot where i live that these things will have to be in the mornings once summer hits.

I wanna play over here!
How old is your LO? 7.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping, occasional formula bottle at school
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? We're doing BLW. He eats great at home but is weird at school.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? I super hate pumping, but it is what it is. He loves school. I get to go nurse him at lunch every day.
Questions/concerns/AW? Nothing ATM; he had a ridic growth spurt a while back that I rambled about over on the Infants board.
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Evening walks!

How old is your LO? 7 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. She would never take a bottle, but I tried offering a bit of pumped milk in a sippy the other day and she sucked it down. We have a wedding in May so I'm hoping we can keep working with the cup so I don't have to worry about getting home to nurse her.
4-8 mo If you’ve introduced solids, how is LO doing? We started solids at 6 months. It's been very slow going but she's starting to eat more. We started with purees and I'll probably start doing some more finger foods soon.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? I SAH.
Questions/concerns/AW?
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Southern Hemisphere: what are you looking forward to about cool weather? I usually take them outside a lot all year round but I am sooooo excited about not needing to put like 12 layers on us all when we leave the house.

How old is your LO? Jumping in to Join! Dd is 3 days old, lol
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing so far. Things seem to be going well. She has a shallow latch so I brought out the nipple shield bc my poor nipples were already cracked and bleeding from her night 1 of cluster feeding
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? Right now I’m just using the boppy but I also have a MBF pillow but it’s not super comfortable with my c/s incision right now.
Questions/concerns/AW? We have first Dr appt tomorrow so I’m anxious to see her weight. She was 6lbs 7oz at birth and actually gained weight the first night to 6lbs9oz and then dropped tom6lbs5oz before my milk came in. She eats very frequently and pretty much anytime she is upset she roots but may only nurse less than 5 minutes during those scenarios
GTKY: what are you looking forward to about warm weather? Hopefully getting outside but w a newborn it will be early AM or evening as it gets too hot here
