Morning everyone! I will be in and out but I wanted to talk about #EqualPayDay which is today. In my state, the census shows that women get paid 79 cents to each man's dollar.
As a person I don't understand how 2 people doing the same job, working just as hard, don't get paid the same. I don't quite factor in things like merit or attitude or attendance as I don't know the deltas and I know anyone in HR can say that is a factor. Personally as a man I am disgusted with this. This is 2018. I can't stand how we aren't more equal.
And the news this morning say many proponents of lower women's pay is because of child rearing. As I can see their point about time missed from work, it should be seen as short term disability if maternity leave is not an option for you company. You would do the same if a man was out for a medical reason and needed time for recuperation till they can safely return to work.
So for this #EqualPayDay I wanted to say to everyone here that feels as though they are marginalized by the pay gap but still working hard and taking care of your family; it is ridiculous the system is letting you down like this. If those who relay on you don't respect and admire you work (home and work) and everything you do for them, then today they should stop and really think about how they are hosing you. To me if you work hard and show up just like everyone else you get paid just as much as everyone else at your level.
Trying not to sound misogynistic here and throwing the old "I have a family and my wife does blah blah blah and I support her". I am not going to pander.
I guess what I am trying to say I don't know what its like to be marginalized this and I just can't understand how this can still be a thing in 2018. But I support the fight for Equal Pay and it should be just 1 day we should be showing support for #EqualPayDay.
