Bring mud. Lots of mud. Rain off and on here all week. Plus the temps are chilly again. I am so sick of everything being a mud pit. I’m pretty breezy about the kids getting dirty when we’re outside but this much, and for this length of time, is too much for me.
When I pulled into the driveway today there was a hawk that had just caught something in my yard! Ds has been watching the live eagle nest cam lately and he was so excited to watch the hawk for a bit as it danced around and then started eating. We stayed in the car for ten minutes watching. He kept saying “Hawk get that chipmunk!” Kind of morbid but also very cool. Circle of life and all that.
I’m loving breakfast for lunch for the kids. I don’t know why I’ve never done it before. It’s a nice change up from their normal lunches. Dd was just licking the maple syrup off her plate. Total beast mode.

I'm in a funk, and I'm convinced it's because winter won't GTFO.
In the process of trying to secure a babysitter this weekend so my H and I can go on a date.
I don't know what is going on here, but the breakroom has a table full of homemade cheesecake swirl brownies, cupcakes, and a huge-ass bag of Chili's tortilla chips and salsa. #blessed.

Yes to the funk judyblume14. One of the best days I’ve had recently was a warm sunny one. We spent all day playing on the deck, because obviously the yard was a mud pit, but I felt so much better after that. Now it’s back to drizzly and chilly. I heard on the news the other day that we had more warmer days in January and February than March. That’s crazy.

judyblume14 I hear ya on the funk I blame the weather too. So done with the cold wet and rainy days. E now dances and wiggles when she hears music on tv and tries to whistle like H does all the time. She is so adorable. I'm biased though. I had a dentist appointment after work no cavities but I have an old one that needs to be replaced with a crown yuck.

Definitely ready for spring too! The kids want to be outside constantly and after a week of gorgeous weather, it’s cooling off a little here too. M stands at the French doors to our backyard grunting at me and throws a fit if I try to move her. This girl has opinions and knows how to show them! Lakes my DS would have loved seeing a hawk like that too! I’m pretty amazed at how much he’s comprehending lately. Work is just bonkers right now and I’m feeling like I need to put in more hours but hesitant to do too much more bc (1) I’m part time and paid part time and (2) I’m just mentally done once we get the kids to bed. Maybe things will slow down once we get past a big May deadline? I really like my job but this is the most stressful it’s been since I started at the company 7 years ago.

carrots, in case you're looking for validation: if you won't be paid for working the extra hours? Don't work them. It's one thing to be a salaried employee with the expectation that you work the hours you need to until in order to meet deadlines. But "free overtime" does not trickle over onto part-time employees. Don't run yourself ragged.

I made zucchini pizza bites for dinner last night.
-toss zucchini rounds in EVOO -roll through mixture of breadcrumbs and grated parmasean -bake at 400 for 5 mins, flip, bake another 5 min -pizza sauce, mozz, topping -bake til melty (2 or 3 min)
They were delish. My 3yo wasn't immediately fooled. But then we cut them in half and added more cheese, and changed their name to "cheesy bites" and she ate them. Meanwhile, A devoured them.

Paging people with NJ and NYC knowledge so off the top of my head peaseblossom55 and pibblemom (ps. I miss you) and opheliainwaders I think. I looked at the old roster, I miss all you J’17 moms! My bff is overseas but will be in NYC for one week. She wants us to come visit but the only day she has free is the day before our family photoshoot from hell (sidenote: fun sil stories abound!). I cannot physically or mentally handle taking two kids into the city for a day trip the day before this photoshoot. I’m thinking a compromise is a get together in north NJ? What is there up there (kids museum, Arboretum, parks, etc) that we could do with kids and would be near a train station for my bff.

It's one thing to be a salaried employee with the expectation that you work the hours you need to until in order to meet deadlines. But "free overtime" does not trickle over onto part-time employees. Don't run yourself ragged. So it is kind of a weird setup in that I’m salaried, just at 60% of my previous salary. But I still receive full benefits (health insurance, pro-rated 401k contribution and bonus, earning time toward my pension, and prorated vacation). So I still feel like an exempt employee. My boss is super supportive and encourages me to stick to my hours so I just need to get more ok with projects taking me a little longer to complete.

carrots, I had a coworker under the same arrangement you speak of, only at 80%. Instead of working 4 days a week though, she opted to work five 6-hour days. She got burned. More often than not she got to the office before me, and left after me. Don't let that be you. You definitely need to get out of your own head!!

So E is sick again a week after being at daycare again super fussy and her nose is runny. So don't want to deal with another 2 1/2 week cold ughhh. I assume this is all normal with starting daycare and her being around kids. Sigh.

I feel like my life is just loading and unloading the dishwasher now. How can one little person increase the amount of dishes so much?! I felt this way withlaundry when dd was born too. Never ending.

Lakes, yes! It's a constant cycle of loading the dishwasher, unloading into the drying rack because the damn things are never dry, then putting everything away... because the next load comes out! same goes for laundry.

I’m on load number 5 of 6 for the day. Everything was clean on Monday. How do these little people make so much mess?!?
And yes on the dishes. I foolishly kept thinking it would be so much better when we were done with bottles but somehow we’re still running it at least once a day. 🤷🏻♀️

I took the kids to the grand opening of a fancy nature store. Ds is estactic that he met a barred owl. I hope they can stay in business. I’m going to try to some of my bird stuff there on a regular basis. It’s a few bucks more but supporting a local business over a big box store makes me feel better. Plus the family was so nice. Their preteen son rang up my purchase and then walked it out to my car while I wrangled both kids. I’m sold!

E was so great at swim classes this morning she definitely understood it so much more. Her nose is still runny. So on Monday finally or roof is being redone. So we let the nanny know because nap time will be affect. She has been texting Chris and I all day asking about it and plans for naps, it is so annoying. I just want to scream. I am so glad we have no where to go tomorrow we can just relax. I can meal prep and get in some much needed cleaning.

peaseblossom55 for what it’s worth, both of my napped fine during the roofing. I was super surprised! I guess because the sound was so rhythmic and constant? Hopefully E will be the same.

Roofers started at 7am this morning bright and early. H called they cut a cable Line to the house by accident. Only to one part of the house though. So the cable company is coming tomorrow.

I feel you. I give my 4 year old his toast or sandwich on a paper towel at the table sometimes. I have also taken away all but 4 Plates. I'm so tempted to do the same with cups. For some reason, dishwasher is my most hated task

My bf went back to work after 10 months on parental leave!!! I'm happy to have my house back, and hoping to get on some sort of routine again l

I limit the kids drinking vessels and it’s awesome. One Munchkin 360 per kid for milk and two camelbaks each. They use real plates so I can’t limit them because I have Fiesta and wouldn’t be able to decide what colors to put away. I’m also guilty of serving toast on the cutting board.

Happy new roof day peaseblossom55! I hope the rest of the day went smoothly after the wire snafu. Obviously the price tag is no fun but I feel much lighter now that I’m not stressing over potential leaks and damage.

You know how everything looks fine and then one day you wake up and it’s like, wtf? How is that shelf so dusty? Where did that sticky handprint come from? That’s where I’m at right now. I started deep cleaning the kitchen today, wiping down the cupboards, cleaning out under the sink, etc. It’s tough doing it during naps but hopefully I’ll finish it up tomorrow.

Obviously the price tag is no fun but I feel much lighter now that I’m not stressing over potential leaks and damage. So it's mostly done they have to finish in the morning. When I got home I noticed I love the color of the shingles, a light grey however it doesn't go with the home of our siding as much as I hoped. We always talked about residing our home though. The roofers were here until 8pm, they tried to do it all in one day and couldn't.

I am desperately trying to come up with some vacation ideas for the summer for a few days. I need a full week away from the normal and away from work. We did Cape May with my family last year. I don't know if it's worth repeating or going somewhere different.
I also made some egg muffins for E yesterday she gobbled them up this morning. I hope soon she gets used to a fork and spoon.
