Sorry for the late check in this week, all. It was a rough weekend for me. Hope yours were all better!
How far are you now? 29,4 Symptom check: Nausea, headaches, backaches, general discomfort, disassociation/despondency What and when is your next appointment? Today at 3:00pm with the social worker Anything you’d like to share with the group? I got diagnosed with GD yesterday in the most frustrating way. I started the day with the 3hr GTT, which sucked enough, then got called after lunch to see if I could come in for my OB appointment early. I agreed, showed up, got called, and the nurse pointed to my brown-bagged pee cup (sans pee because I had just gone right before the appointment, doi), saying she didn't need that. Cue confusion on my end, because they have asked for/told me I need a sample every week. Then she asked if I'd picked my stuff up at the pharmacy. More confusion because no? What stuff? She asks if I'm there for a diabetes screening, I said no. Maybe a different Rama? So I sat back down and she went back into the office areas. Few minutes later, she calls me back up, says I *am* with her, and THEN tells me I flunked my GTT (which hadn't even finished resulting yet, I'd just already failed two of the three hours). I needed to go down to the pharmacy to pick up my meter and stuff, then come back. She said to get in the pick up line, not get a number, because it should be waiting. I do that. They don't have it ready because no one put the order in, so they didn't know they needed to. I had to get a number anyway and wait. Paid for the things, go back upstairs, and then get the most patronizing lecture on what I needed to do (complete with a lesson on how food turns into energy...no shit).
So I've been in the biggest depressive/despondent/whatever state since then. I'm pretty sure my face is permanently puffy and red. I'm not so much upset with the dx (though, yeah, that sucks), just the way it was handled and now I'm stuck feeling like an idiot that's harming her baby and ruined its health. I'm also now sure I'm going to have Type II after birth (not actually, it's the brain talking) and my baby is also going to be diabetic. Basically, I'm a goddamn mess because everything is my fault because I eat too much sugar because it's the only thing I ever want and now I have no appetite or will to exist or anything. I think I had maybe a half cup of overcooked broccoli and 4oz of chicken for dinner. I have no desire for anything. If I didn't have this check-in, I wouldn't have even logged in today. I have way too much on my plate and there isn't really much I can pass off or put off. I'm going to ask my clinician if there's any kind of case for going on medical leave/disability relating to pregnancy mental health. I can't do this. It's too much for me and something's gotta give. Right now, it's me. That can't continue.

Oh Rama, that all sounds so frustrating and infuriating. I can see why you’re feeling how you are. You need to do whatever you can to take care of your mental state.

1. How far are you now? 31+2
2. Symptom check: High BP (and all that entails), heartburn like whoa, insomnia, major irritability, aching all over. The usual.
3. What and when is your next appointment? MFM on Monday for a BPP and hopefully some planning.
4. Anything you’d like to share with the group? I went to the OB for a regular appointment last Thursday. I mentioned my high BP symptoms and readings, but he continued to brush me off, said he was okay with my elevated readings (155/85 in the office, higher at home). I left and cried in the car because I had been feeling shitty and then felt ignored. Friday, I was still feeling bad - worse even - and called the nurse who sent me to L&D triage. I spent three hours there getting normal BP readings and was sent home. I decided to rest for the weekend, but by Sunday afternoon, I was spiking to 165/100, so I called again. My doc called back and had me go in first thing yesterday to his office. After talking things over with me, hearing about my consistently high pressures, and contacting my MFM, he decided to put me on an additional BP med and bed rest until delivery.
The scary part was hearing him talk about getting to 32 weeks so N has more time to develop. And then the steroid shots and asking when I delivered the girls. I think at this point, I’ll be shocked if I make it to 36 weeks. I think my OB wants the MFM to have more of a say in the delivery plan, so hopefully on Monday, we can get some answers on how far he expects me to make it, if we’ll induce or do a CS, etc. My body hates pregnancy. I can’t do this much longer and certainly can’t do this to myself again. H is gonna need to get snipped ASAP just in case.
Sorry so long... it’s been an eventful last week.

1. How far are you now? 21 weeks, 2 days2. Symptom check: Sore hips, insomnia, definitely really hungry. DH ate the last of the marshmallow cereal and I cried. Then ordered an entire pound of cereal marshmallows off Amazon. 3. What and when is your next appointment? I have another ultrasound and OB check in on February 9th. Or the 6th. One of those two.4. Anything you’d like to share with the group? Tiny Human has started to roll and wiggle and flip. I'm bowled over by it. The reason for the 2nd ultrasound ... So, at our appointment the OB commented that his kidneys were prominent, but said everything looked fine. I got a call a few hours later with her saying his measurements were over the normal range by like .3 and .4. I nearly flipped out. But she reassured me that she does not think anything is wrong, it is just their policy to check again when ANYTHING is outside the range of normal. I asked a few friends and apparently this is a lot more common than I realized, especially in boys. 99% of the time it just fixes itself. Rama, I'm frustrated on your behalf. I'm glad you're going to advocate for the time off/leave. You gotta take care of you <3 longhornwino, I hope you get some answers. I'm sorry it was such a rough week for you.

Rama, I am so sorry about how they handled everything with the GD diagnosis...that is extremely frustrating. I can definitely understand why you are upset. I think your feelings about getting Type II diabetes, will the baby have diabetes, etc is normal. This is my 2nd pregnancy with GD and I have had similar thoughts. I've cried about it on more than one occasion. I hate food right now. I only eat because I know I have too, not because I want to. I hope you can be put on medical leave it sounds like it is much needed. I also hope you had a good appointment with the social worker. Thinking of you. longhornwino, I hope your BP gets under control. Sorry things have been rough. My body hates pregnancy too. I am trying to enjoy all the baby movement, knowing this is my last pregnancy, but I also am ready to be done. mela99, I hope your next U/S shows that everything is okay. AFM: 1. How far are you now? 31 weeks, 5 days 2. Symptom check: nausea, tired, sore, reflux 3. What and when is your next appointment? I start twice weekly NSTs on Monday. 4. Anything you’d like to share with the group? Nothing much this week --still battling dealing with GD and high BP. I am enjoying all the movement, but am definitely tired and ready to be done.

Thanks longhornwino & mela99. I feel a lot better today. The SW was so sweet and I had a good time talking to her. She talked me through a couple of things I felt really pressured by and basically said to take it easy. Even if stuff doesn't get done, my job isn't going to tank. And no one is going to fire a pregnant/postpartum lady, hahahaha. Longhorn, I'm so pissed that your OB keeps blowing off your BP. Glad after you're on meds and rest now (did they pull you from work?) and I hope N keeps cooking for a good long while still. <3 Mela, That would freak me out, too! I'm glad everything looks unconcerning with the little one, here's hoping the next ultrasound shows some perfectly proportioned kidneys!

woodenshoes The SW appointment went great! I'm feeling much better after, even if I still have some anxieties. Here's hoping we can get through this last bit of pregnancy unscathed, yes? Since this is my first time dealing with anything diabetic-related, do you have any good foods or recipes that don't spike your glucose too high? I'm looking for some good stuff to make.

Rama, I’m pulled from the office but working from home. It seems to be helping ever so slightly.

Do they have a plan for increased monitoring, to watch for pre-e? Weekly appointments. Probably another 24-your urine collection in a couple of weeks. Other than that, no concrete plans yet, but we’re going to take it up with the MFM next week.

I am the worse cook in America, but some foods that I have no problems eating include tacos, chicken nuggets, hamburgers with half a bun, any meat and low carb veggie combo. I eat a lot of salads even though I am afraid of all the food borne illnesses lettuce seems to cause. I have a good low carb pancake recipe. I basically rotate the same meals every week. I am on a Facebook GD group and they occasionally post recipes. I also eat a lot of protein bars and trail mix. I like to make cauliflower fried rice and I found some pre made zucchini noodles to make spaghetti with. I also will make pizza on sandwich thins when I am craving pizza. If I eat a ton of veggies at the same time I am able to eat a couple slices of real pizza with no problems.

grad lurking - Rama, sorry for the GD diagnosis and the crappy communication between the pharmacy and the docs! I hope the GD is easily controlled.
