If you pay your municipality for water can you share how many gallons you use monthly or quarterly? How many people are in your house?
We have a well but pay our township for sewer fees. Right now everyone in the township pays a flat rate sewer fee but that's changing. They're going to start charging based on water usage, and well customers will continue to pay a flat fee but it's increasing $200 a year. We have the option of installing a water meter to be billed based on water usage as well, but that is $$ to install and I have zero idea how much water we use. So if we use a lot less than the flat rate it'll be worth it but if we use more it won't be, and I have no clue how to figure that out. All our neighbors are single or old so it's not really comparable.

I just checked my bill. My meter was read on 3/28 (last read 12/29). From end of December to end of March we used 16k gallons with 4 people in our house. That bill was $51.
Our amount obviously increases in the warmer months due to sprinklers running daily and having to fill the pool. But our sprinkler system is a smart system which adjusts to save water. If it rains or is forecasted to rain it'll skip running to save water.

We are billed quarterly. Two adults and two kids, and MH waters the lawn quite a bit from June to August. Our washer and dishwasher are relatively new, so I'd take that efficiency into account too.
Nov - Feb 15k gallons, $30. Aug - Nov 98k gallons, $212. May - Aug same Feb - May 12k gallons, $24.

There are 3 of us and we use 3-5 thousand gallons per month; 3 being in the winter months without watering outside and 5 being on the higher end in the hot summer months.
The city average is 5 thousand gallons for a 3 person family.
ETA: our water bill is around $100 per month.

I looked at our consumption over the last year. We used about 3,000 gallons a month except for summer, when watering the gardens and grass was about 15,000 gallons per month for a couple months.
2 adults, one kid, newer appliances.

So our flat rate is based on 17,400 gallon usage quarterly. Hmmmm... seems like it might even out with summer usage.
This is helpful info. Thanks everyone for checking.

I don't live in the US so I don't gallon, but we used 9 kilolitres last month. We're in the middle of a drought, so we're using grey water in the garden and saving water where we can (if it's yellow, let it mellow... etc) 2 adults, 2 children.

For a family of 3 we average 4-6 gallons a month. The higher end during the warmer months when we have our sprinklers running. Last summer we used about 15 gallons a month because we had new grass we had to water twice a day. For the month of May this year we used 6 gallons.

$200/year is still a low sewer rate. I'd probably just pay that and not worry about having a meter installed. Especially if you water your lawn or garden and don't have separate meters for indoor and outdoor use.

But still $200/year increase would take a while to pay for the pump.
